Helping out the Maidens (spoilers, of course)

Shattered Star

So, has anyone's group actually managed to ultimately end up in the position of having at least the majority of the Grey Maidens in the Lady's Light still alive, and has that group then attempted to help the Maidens start anew in Magnimar?

The group in my game marched in through the gates of Magnimar with something like 22 Grey Maidens and introduced Oriana to the Heidmarchs, but I honestly don't really know what would happen after that. Thoughts? The group did, essentially, keep their liquid cash, but they let the Maidens keep all of their equipment. And the Heidmarchs are suddenly looking at almost 2 dozen heavily armed women warriors and going "Oookay, so this was dropped in our laps."

Input would be appreciated. Thanks!

My half-orc Redeemer took Oriana specifically as a cohort with the leadership feat. The rest of them we helped to ingratiate into Magnimar as members of the local guard. The local Hellknights were less than pleased, suspecting them of criminal behavior due to their association with the Grey Maidens.
Overall, it took a ton of negotiating and even bribing to get some to look the other way that these women were former grey maidens. Others, like the Pathfinders, were glad for some extra assistance. And having my character with Oriana show up in Magnimar from time to time in order to help ease the transition and have her act as the shining example to the others about reform and such certainly didn't hurt it.

Overall, I'd expect a lot of rolls and a lot of gold to flow from your purse.
Can be worth it though.

Our group saved and redeemed all the maidens (among many other NPCs). We convinced the maidens to join the Pathfinder Society over in Magnimar.

Oh our group messed up bigtime....

So first off they managed to avoid violence with every single Grey Maiden in the dungeon because one of the pc's (who was a social monster) also happened to look, sound (and almost act) exactly like Lady Sorshen.

"Lady Sorshen" took the leadership feat and now has a dedicated bodyguard/stalker called Orianna who's very conflicted (especially since she was personally permitted to execute the other Lady Sorshen and now has to face the exact image of the woman she murdered in cold blood every day).

Not only that but little Loria Peratti (the Grey Maiden who was dead in Sorshen's lair) has been brought back to Magnimar. Orianna has requested a regular wage and is saving up to have little Loria restored to life as she feels incredibly guilty for the woman having unwittingly taken her place and paid the price.

We played Dawn of the Scarlet Sun as filler material between Curse of the Lady's Light & The Asylum Stone. Consequently Orianna volunteered to have many of her Grey Maidens dress as worshippers of Sarenrae and act as decoys so that multiple ambushes could be placed. One of the maidens (a woman by the name of Linaive) was mistaken for a genuine Sarenite by one of the locals and asked to come into his hovel and pray for a sick relative. She felt terribly uncomfortable with the hole situation and stayed the entire night making up false prayers. In the morning she reported to the party cleric, expressed her feelings of helplessness, and took the cleric to heal the unhealthy local.

Afterwards Linaive expressed an interest in joining the clergy. It didn't go well at first (when theological debates are settled with fists the higher ranking members of the clergy rarely approve) but she seems to be settling in nicely so that's one more of the grey maidens being rehabilitated.

One of them (the unit's banner bearer) also joined the Pathfinder society (she wanted "diplomatic immunity") and is now acting as a cavalier with the standard bearer archetype & tactician archetype (they don't clash).

Many of the Grey Maidens still hang around the Heidmarch estate, reporting in to Orianna although now they seem to do so more out of habit and a desire to keep in touch than any sort of actual sense of duty. They're slowly drifting away and being assimilated into society (something that the new Lady Sorshen is actively involved in). As they begin to find new lives Orianna begins to feel as if her family is drifting away and slowly falling apart. As each one of them becomes firmly settled in and starts to keep in touch less she feels as if another family member is abandoning her. Eventually she fears she will be left with only the woman she loves, fears, and feels guilty for slaying. I'm not entirely sure how she's going to react to that in the long term but only time will tell.

Oh, it's always a good bit of crazy thrown in.
