Multiple Game Masters

Advice

Hey!

After participating as players in two campaigns, two of us are now running our own campaign, but it's very odd. I was wondering how often this is done, and if it is, your own experiences.

We're both working as dungeon masters for a party of five, in a very sandbox styled campaign. It's Rise of the Runelords essentially.

I operate more toward the role-play, and creating unique voices. I keep track of such voices, information and accents, by theming them and having NPC note cards. I also have a full "diary" of the events of each session.

Daniel, operates the combat mostly. He makes the NPC decisions, and is brilliant at on-the-fly adjustments, additions of new enemies, and stuff they scavenge.

With two people, we are introducing rules into play every session and able to keep good track of every event and tie them off into the story in odd and surprising ways.

Any thoughts?

Sounds like a great way to run a game. I kinda wish I had a backup DM that did all the funny voices for me.

It certainly sounds far preferable to alternating in the same campaign. This way each GM has their own sphere of influence and "ownership" of a part of the game, and it also means things ought to move faster - looks like a winning idea to me!

Agree - sounds like a good idea. If both GMs work well with one another, then it opens up a lot of potential.

It does work very well for us. At the end of a session, one of us can look up the XP for the creatures, calculate it along with the Bonus XP at the end of a session without any delay.

We're also multiplying the XP rewards, in an effort to reach one level up every second week.
