So I'm gonna be running this very soon,
I need an answer asap.

If he is determined to destroy them then there is little you can do to stop him. They aren't important really just a link into book two.
The angle I used (Pharasmin Inquisitor player)is that the books are important to study and understand the mindset of the BBG in order to help combat them...Destroying them would do nothing to help combat the spread of these foul practices but using them (at the possible personal risk of your soul) is a necessary evil.

It is also the dying wish of a man who should have been his friend and you could stress to him that the law states the final wishes of the deceased should be followed implicitly.
Judge Daramid will likely be quite upset but may use their destruction as leverage to get them to work as deputies for the defense. They don't come up in the later parts of the path unless you want them to.

Personally I see the decision to destroy the tomes as a player decision, and not a Paladin fiat. While some characters (and not just Pallies) could have reason to destroy the tomes, it's also very reasonable to see the books as tools to learn about evil, so that evil can be confronted and defeated. If he has concerns about how the books will be used I could see a stalwart champion of good interviewing the recipients, or investigating them, to learn of their past, and theorize about their intentions. Nothing gets the point across like a heavily armored and armed man with a decent Charisma handing over a book and saying "Ensure that I never have cause to regret handing this to you."
