Lyrie Akenja captured, helpless victim or chaotically trying to escape ? [Spoilers?]

Rise of the Runelords

GM here, players are near the end of Burnt Offerings. They managed to capture Lyrie alive and tie her up.
My question is, how would she act in this situation? With everyone else dead, would she submit to her captors and reveal any information she knows? Would she stubbornly refuse her knowledge of the ruins and what they were up to?
She doesn't currently know they have killed Tsuto.

Anyone got any good dialog bits for her? Personality traits? Any advice/ideas on this are much appreciated.

I read her as kind of nuts; she might be willing to negotiate for her freedom but she's also going to try to escape if she's given the opportunity. She definitely wouldn't trust the PCs to treat her fairly, even (especially?) if they were a party full of paladins.

They party isn't the most morally sound I've seen by any regards..

One of them is a Thassilonian scholar, and he makes it obvious the way he acts. How about her reaction to that? I was thinking almost as if she were hoarding the ruin.
The idea of her becoming slightly infatuated with the guy through like interest crossed my mind though..

Her main traits when I ran her were an utter faith in Tsuto being in love with her, and otherwise not particularly combative. If she knows that Tsuto isn't in Thistletop, I could see her talking in exchange for life/freedom. She might think Tsuto will rescue her though.

I could see some uncontrollable commenting on Thassilonian matters if she thinks the scholar in the party is 'getting things wrong' ("You can't seriously think that's what the rune means, can you?")

I ran her as actually being "in love" with Orik, and my PCs actually took over Thistletop as their own, and are paying Orik and Lyrie to guard the faciity and research Thassilon respectively.

It should work out nicely.

Not knowing Tsuto was dead, I imagine she would be helpful as she felt was necessary to keep herself alive, but would be actively seeking a way to escape, either directly or by the party getting themselves killed by biting off more than they can chew.

I switched the NPC relationships around a little bit. Tsuto was obsessed with his sister (sexually and otherwise) since she was the only person who was ever kind to him growing up and returned to Sandpoint to rescue her from its destruction... he was terrified of Nualia.

Lyrie and Nualia were lovers - Nualia was driven, Lyrie was just freaking crazy.

Orik was just about ready to wash his hands of the whole thing, but was afraid he'd be killed if he tried to leave.

Oh, wow. That makes for a twisted, scary campaign.

I love it.

My reading of Lyrie is self-interested, mercenary and amoral. She doesn't do direct confrontation and she doesn't even understand the concept of a fair competition or fight. She has a scholarly bent and a "thing" (a creepy obsession where stealing locks of his hair as a memento seems sensible) for Tsuto.

I think she'd jump at any chance to save her own skin. She'd make whatever deal was required to survive but have no intention of keeping a bargain that was not to her advantage.
She would have little or no loyalty to Nualia or Orik.
Any Thassilonian knowledge in Thistletop would be of great interest to her, as would the chance to continue to study the ruins in peace.
I imagine she would guard her knowledge jealously, but not at the risk of her life. She would understand it's value and not give it up for free.

In the near term, if she found out the party had killed Tsuto she would seek revenge. I imagine she's of the "revenge is a dish best served piping hot and in the back" school of thought. Given her personality, intelligence and thirst for knowledge, if she interacts with Sandpoint at all she's likely to uncover Tsuto's fate in short order.

Longer term (say, months), I think she'd get over Tsuto and find something else to obsess over.

We tend to run pretty mature games - thematically, at any rate.

I would love to use some of the more mature themes people come up with (see the child telling the PCs that mommy ate daddy on the other forum here), but my regular group is my family-which includes my eleven-year old sister.

Yeah....I've had to leave out some of the more gruesome events so far (that goblin event where the dad's face was eaten), and am not looking forward top censoring a lot more content in the future (what, exactly, the Iron Cages of Lust holds).

It's funny, my party actually captured Lyrie as well. She surrendered after the warriors surrounded her and she was completely unable to get off any spells. At the time, she thought Tsuto was still alive. When they got back to Sandpoint, and found out he hung himself, she went ballistic, swearing she'd murder all of them.

She's bugnuts. Completely motivated by self-interest and amoral as the day is long. Keep in mind, she murdered two other prospective Pathfinders just to make sure her notes were the only ones that made it to Absalom. She lured goblins over to the tendriculos, just so she could take notes on how it ate them. She has less of a chance of redemption than Orik, who isn't exactly a paragon of virtue himself, but at least he could be motivated into finding a different path than the one that he's on.

I played her as stubborn and tight-lipped compared to Orik's lovable loser routine. She's also vindictive - I had her cat sneak into one of the party's backpacks while they had stopped for lunch and use it as a litter box. She didn't escape, but at least she got to give them the middle finger for capturing her. They also failed at the difficult Diplomacy checks I set to change her mind. I figure she starts at hostile and won't get any better once she finds out her beau is dead.

Totally amoral and self-involved. In my game she came running when a loud fight broke out in the main sanctum, took a good long look, and ran. She stole the party's boat and was busily rowing for freedom when they got outside and roasted her with a long-range fireball.

Orik was a little disgruntled by that, but wound up joining the party as a PC anyway.

Lyrie is a chaotic evil. She's only loyal to herself. She'll narc out Nualia and anyone and everything else if she thinks it will keep her alive or out of prison. But she'll need some confidence the players will actually release her before she talks. Or be absolutely certain they will kill her if she doesn't. (Party needs to succeed on diplomacy or intimidate checks.) She is familiar with Magnimar and probably Sandpoint. If the players have cleared out much or all of Thistletop, she concludes she will be in better hands (more easy to manipulate or escape) with the guards from either location. (If the checks fail, she plays for time.)

lyrie was captured but then escaped, and Orik got out as well, I want to bring them back later on, any advice on stattin them up?

I've given thought into Lyrie, given that she will be making an appearance later. She should have a few more levels, enough so that she's got 3rd level spells. I'm planning on giving her lightning bolt, fly, and a few other spells based upon the trouncing the PCs gave her at Thistletop.

Lyrie's Fate:

In the game I just finished running last night, they were able to scrape together enough evidence of Lyrie's wrongdoing that Justice Ironbriar found her guilty of conspiring against Sandpoint and Magnimar. He sentenced her to twenty years in the Hells. What actually happened is that they provided enough reasons to get Xanesha intrigued enough by Lyrie that she ordered Ironbriar to find her guilty, and then spirit her away to start working for her. They're going to meet her again at the Seven's Sawmill, and will be firing off a shot at my party's wizard. (He stole her spellbook, after all.) When things turn against her, she'll cast fly and flee back to Xanesha. If she gets that far, then she'll be sent out after the party with the Scarecrow. She'll hang back and wait until they've given the Scarecrow a good beating, and then unleash another lightning bolt - healing the golem and injuring them!

I'm a mean GM. >:)

Orik will probably stay on the sword-and-board fighter path. I might give him the Shielded Fighter archetype, I might not. I don't really see him branching out into anything else beyond fighter. He's a simple guy who has the worst luck. He's currently trying to turn over a new leaf, and might actually find peace in Sandpoint.

The fate of Lyrie in my game went a little differently.

Spoiler:
The Heroes of Sandpoint subdued her effectively, dragging her along with them as they explored the bottom floors of Thistletop.
She convinced the Heroes to at least take here back to Sandpoint for a fair trail because obviously it was the right thing to do.
About the time the started fighting the shadows, she begged to be released so she could help (herself not die).
After that threat was dealt with, they let her remain untied so she may help them with exploring.
The Heroes offered her a position in the "guild" there were hoping to create in Sandpoint; mostly from the request of the Thassalonian obsessed in the group, seeing a like minded individual, and not wanting a fellow scholar's intellect being wasted in a jail sell.
The partnership was good for the most part. The Heroes went about their business while Lyrie and Brodart Quint argued and studied the thistletop ruins.

Then one day something was amiss. The Thassolonian obsessed found no one when he went to check the progress of their studying. He eventually found Quint unconscious in a closet. Only able to get him awake long enough to inform him of what he feared "Sh-she's gone.."
Fearing the worst, he checked his store of artifacts he had been collecting (including replicas of both the Runelord of Wrath and Greed's favorite weapons). Here he found one missing (along with a heafty some of gold) and a carefully written letter.
The letter informed him that Lyrie had left, would miss him, and will see if again someday. She had taken the ranseur to remember him by.
"... XOXO
-Lyrie
P.S. Practice with that glaive!"

The character has since take a weapon proficiency, and has been wondering how he should proceed.

Interesting conundrum; My group got the drop on Lyrie, where she completely bombed a Will save against Charm Person. So, for 3 hours, she's the Cleric's best friend, while the group kills Bruthazmus and lets Orik escape, and then headed downstairs to kill Nualia.

So, basically, aside from the big Bhargast and the crab, it's just Lyrie left alive down there.

How do you think she reacts when the Charm wears off?

Glad she's still alive, glorifying in that she has these Thassilonian ruins to investigate with all the traps taken care of, and angry that the PCs looted the rest. But not stupid enough to go up against them again.

Lyrie hasn't faired so well in my campaign.

Spoiler:
Tsuto had escaped from jail while the PCs were in the Catacombs. He and Lyrie had barricaded their room against the PCs. I gave them a couple rounds to buff while the PCs broke in. Our Ranger shot Tsuto with an elf-bane arrow, and then the Rogue got the drop on him and straight-up killed him with the backstab damage. Lyrie went nuts with her offensive spells, but it was only a matter of time in the small room. She was dropped unconcious, then stabilzed and tied up in a cell. Since she saw the Rogue kill Tsuto right in front of her, I'm going to play her as insane with rage. The Paladin in the party will make sure she and Orik make it back to stand trial. All the other bad guys died.

Any suggestions on anything else to do with her? I do like the Ironbriar ideas.
