The wide open recruiting done on these forums certainly allows for negative influence to make its way into a group. Information that may affect the security of the organization tends to remain with leadership and proven members and is not always available to the membership as a whole. Right now we do not really have anything that could affect such security, but we can expect to see these policies play out as we march to OE and the game mechanics that would require them fall into place.
Right. I think the important balance we want to strike is between having an inclusive community that doesn't make you jump through a ton of hoops if you want to join and a community that can keep it's sensitive information of of the wrong hands.
Right now in these pre-game phases the best way to do that is keep sensitive information restricted to our highest ranking members except on a need to know basis. As those need to know situations increase as they surely will post launch, you will see additional security measures be implemented.

I just started out as some random person who signed up through our older version of this thread. My ascent was not even about interest in ascending (as it should be, I suppose) but rather just the willingness to step up and help keep the organization moving forward when the need arises.
Really the 'secret information' is going to be about more sensitive strategic planning and high level tactics. Basically just the stuff that could make or break the organization. Aside from that aspect, there is a lot of equality among the general membership. As they mentioned above, it is all about being inclusive without putting the metaphorical key to the city in the hands of the unknown.
There really isn't a peon position, there is really just leadership and membership. There is plenty of room at various levels of leadership if that is your thing. Being raised as leadership is a combination of meritocracy and the trust of your peers. If this is your kind of position, aiming for a leadership role in one of the sub-guilds is an excellent place to begin stretching your muscles and proving your stuff. These are elected roles, and will have elections every few months once we have a company in the game.

As Lifedragn has stated there isn't really a peon role. Basically we will aim to give access to information as you need access for information, and make sure there are appropriate screening processes in place to weed out those who would misuse information from those who are receiving it.
A great example would be our military. They are going to need to know a certain amount of sensitive information just to do their job. Being in military channels / seeing military channels on our mumble and hearing orders be given during a battle is something we'd prefer our enemies not be able to do once the game goes live.
So screening will probably be part of the process of entering into our regular military. If you aren't involved with the military, we may never give you that information, primarily because you don't need it. Even if you are in the militia, you'll probably be lead by a military commander who has a good idea of the whole situation, and relays the orders specific to your militia unit to you. Not only is that more secure, it allows you to focus better on what you need to be doing.
I imagine there might be similar processes in place for things such as trade caravans. You won't generally get info on them unless you are in them, and getting into the more secure ones may require a certain level of screening.
These screening processes themselves will aim to strike a balance between overly easy access to information, and unreasonable barrier to entry. I imagine the hoops we ask you to join will be quick easy things for a real member, that might be kind of a pain in the butt for a spy. Such as a voice interview, or a certain period of active playtime within TEO.

The guild was first put into place under the name Great Legionnaires in April 2012 I believe, with this thread. I didn't join until November 2012, so I am not sure of history before this thread.
After membership discussion and voting we renamed ourselves The Empyrean Order, set our sights on Nationhood, and re-launched with this thread in December 2012. TEO
Then there was discussion about pulling back from trying to be masters of a nation, as our goal is not government or dominance and decided to approach the community with a much more collaborative mindset. Shortly after that was the CotP merge.

I will take great pleasure in killing you all. How do you know what good is?
While I'm sure we could all have a lot of fun debating the ideas of moral relativism vs. universal morality it isn't even needed here. Ever heard of detect alignment?

I've likely got a spot or three on my Guild Forger pass that I'll sell to dedicated TEO members once we get very close to EE opening up. They have Day 1 EE, almost all of the dailies, Destiny's Twin, etc. Join up, be active and let me know you are interested in an EE account.
No promises yet, as I'm still waiting to hear from a couple of game table friends who might join. I'm guessing at this point RL will keep them from participating.
If they aren't used then I'll offer them at cost (1/6th of what I paid) to new (after this post) dedicated TEO members on a first join basis (I reserve to the right to determine if you are active enough...not looking for excessive participation, but joining and doing next to nothing in the ramp up will likely not make the cut...)

I just want to say that GW has done a good job with the map. There really isn't any 'best' spot, as for every strength a location has there is a pretty counterbalancing 'weakness.' They've clearly spent more than a few moments making it balanced without making it uniform or symmetrical.
Nice job Steven and all at GW!

First, forgive me for my delayed congratulations. I've been out of town for the past 4 days, helping to chaperon 380 8th graders on a Washington D.C. trip. I seem to have missed all the Landrush announcements and I'm still catching up on threads (and sleep).
I hope your chosen location affords you and yours all the peace and prosperity I know you were seeking for Brighthaven, not only for yourselves, but for those you hope to protect.
As I told Alexander over on the Pax forums, in my official capacity as Imperial Ambassador, I look forward to working with him and TEO. As Hobs, I'll be looking to visit with something tasty in hand to share once we all get settled.

Greetings to all lurkers and folks interested in joining TEO, and our area of choice in the SE edge of the map.
We are looking for plenty of like-minded individuals who want to enjoy the game in multiple ways; from PVP and our military, our ambassadors, the great crafters, the city/empire builders, scholars and more.
If you are interested in being part of something great, and want to have a voice and vote in an excellent organization, your voice WILL be considered.
We have a mumble server, (as well as access to our alliance TS server), great members and a desire to see this game succeed.
If interested, post here... then follow the links on the top of this thread.
Regards;
BraxtheSage, proud member and friend at TEO.
