New Warhorn Capabilities

Scarab Sages 4/5

As some of you may or may not have noticed yesterday Warhorn has added a Global Scenario Catalog. What this means is gone are the days of having to type in scenario name, author, description, etc for every warhorn event you make.

To access this you go to Manage Scenarios, and then at the bottom you will see a new button that says, "Offer Scenarios from the global catalog." If you click that and type in part of a name of a sanctioned module, ap, or scenario you can add it to your event and it will populate the information as if you had copied and pasted it yourself saving time and effort. Warhorn has also implemented the option to add factions to the scenario descriptions and for all of the season 5 scenarios you will see the associated factions in the blurb for the scenario.

We are working on a group add feature so that you can bulk add scenarios all at once instead of having to type part of the name in there for every scenario, and a feature to add just a couple scenarios at a time for the people that have everything on their list, but just want to add the new scenarios as they are released.

We also have plans to add the factions involved into the scenario titles much like now the level range is displayed.

I want to thank VL Pete Kies for getting the ball rolling and VL Andrea Brandt for helping me add the database entries of all the modules, aps, and scenarios. Lastly I would like to thank Brian Moseley for being on the ball and listening to all of our suggestions and ideas and getting them implemented to make warhorn a better site to use.

If you have any questions, comments, bugs you find, please feel free to post them here or email me at chris.mullican@pathfindersociety.net

2 people marked this as a favorite.

Thank you for all your hard work. Personally I was very dissatisfied with the early rollout of v2, but it's gotten better this last month.

I still think it would be in Paizo's best interest to come up with their own version of Warhorn. Having one place that everyone can access, post games, and signup for games seems like a no brainer to me, especially since you have all the information on the scenarios themselves here. We already come here to register games, why not do everything else here?

I would also like to add. I am in no way an employee of Warhorn, but they rely purely on donations. We often times use things that are provided free of charge, but as they say, "We offer Warhorn free of charge as a service to the gaming community. It's a way for us to support the gaming community by using our professional skills. Although payment isn't mandatory, your donations are crucial. Every dollar goes straight into monthly operating expenses and ongoing development costs.

Warhorn donors are the heroes who keep this service running. When you make a donation, we add your name to this page as a token of our gratitude." So if you can help out a bit, help out.

I agree, nothing against paizo though, but I would be apprehensive about it. Gamespace is still in development and nothing has changed in a year? and I hesitate to add more stuff like that. Warhorn did have some problems with v2, but like you said, it has gotten better. Suggestions of added capabilities is really what they need.

I was a late adopter of v2, but in January they added back the most crucial parts of the functionality we had in v1, with additional features. I was, honestly, getting ready to find or develop a new solution but the progress and development in the past month and a half have rekindled my faith and we've successfully moved all the DFW area signups to Warhorn v2.

Warhorn has always been gracious supporting GM and coordinator needs and requests for all gaming systems. This latest update is fantastic. I wish someone had thought of that when I was coordinating. Wow, was it a feat in itself to constantly add scenarios descriptions.

Congrats to the VC/VL community for improving PFS play yet again. Thanks to the guys at Warhorn for their constant efforts to make the Web site the best for everyone.

Note: Warhorn operates through donations. They are in the middle of a Q1 fundraiser. If every GM, coordinator and player donated $1 per year (that's per year, guys/gals) just imagine what they could do with that budget.

Yeah. This made setting up my spring con SSSSOOOOOO much easier.

Just be sure the bottom of those Con Boons are filled out this time, Michael ;-)

So I just got to use this amazing new thing, scheduling all my tables for my upcoming convention.

One question though: I see that the not-yet-released scenarios have an asterisk by them, which is a fine way to denote it, but I wonder if I will need to manually remove the asterisk and the accompanying text saying the scenario isnt out yet once it is released, or if the system will change that for me? Any idea?

Any changes to the global catalog will be reflected in your event. In fact you cannot even change things brought over from the global catalog, unless you add custom notes. This was a requested capability that people be unable to modify or edit things listed in the global catalog. There is a select number of people (4) that have the ability to edit the catalog as we want discrepancies to stay at a minimum.

Awesome changes in Warhorn. Looks like I will have to send another donation their way.

Thanks for this Chris. For those of you that are interested in Shadowrun Missions, all of the Shadowrun 5 missions and CMPs have been added as well, listed under the SRM section.

The scenario names and associated factions that were released today are now in the database. As we get more information about them we will add that info as well.
