Looking for 1 additional player for WotW (vampire variant) campaign

Recruitment

Hi all,
Some time ago I began GMing a Way of the Wicked campaign with 6 players. A fortnight ago, we lost one player due to health reasons. As such, I'm looking for ONE replacement who can fill a gap in the party.

The party currently consists of an anti-paladin, fighter, sorcerer, bard, monk. A dedicated divine caster would be ideal but we don't have a rogue either. They've just broken out of the prison and are heading towards a mysterious manor (where the chosen character will already be).

The game is WotW with a vampire variant. Basically, everyone begins as a standard character but will (if they wish) later progress into undead.

Character creation rules found HERE at the recruitment thread. Except that the chosen character will begin at level 2, do NOT get a crime trait (choose a different trait) and start with 1000gp. More specific background info later.

Durova was a gestalt character played in a short lived WotW campaign. As luck would have it, his main goal was to become a vampire. Depending on your rules for embracing vampirism, I'd have to change out some feats. But reading further, I think you are playing with similar feats to my prior DM.

Obviously, if selected, I'd go back and remove all the gestalt monk parts of the character and have him focus only on the cleric side. I could also take a trait to give me Disable Device, if the party is lacking in that skill.

Basically the profile is an outline that I'd flush out if selected. I'd be willing to change anything requested as well.

Thanks for the consideration.

Edit: thinking more about the party composition, I think I'd focus more on casting than being a melee cleric. Front line seems handled very well, so I'd go with a Decent Int and Cha to help with those skills rather than a more physical type of character.

I have an oracle concept in mind, but let me check and see if the dice agree.

Str 8
1d10 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
1d10 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
1d10 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
1d10 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
Cha 18

Ouch, that 8 Con hurts a little. I think that qualifies for a reroll, but I'm almost worried that it'd be a little worse...

What a perfect campaign for a character concept I've been eager to try out. As per KBrewer's Guide, I wish to apply as a Jargonaut.

Name: Elara Korechilde
Race: Female Human
Class: Oracle
Curse: Possibly black-blooded
Mystery: Battle
Alignment: LN/LE (depends exactly how Negative Energy Affinitive the party is)
Party role: Divine caster (Summoner, Necromancer), Tank
Backstory:

I would like to use the Words of Power variant rules as outlined by Ultimate Magic. I know them quite well and won't be using their more difficult permutations.

Strength: 18
Dexterity: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
Constitution: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
Intelligence: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
Wisdom: 8
Charisma: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13

Before I start up on personality and background, could I get your approval for the crunch part? Thanks.

@GM Arkwright: I'm going to have to decline on the Words of Power. I'm not familiar with them and, even if I were, it would take up a lot of my time rehashing NPCs to give the same resources to them.

@Mahorfeus: I wouldn't be overly concerned about low con scores. After all, undead use charisma. Still, you do qualify for a full reroll.

@Durova Sanguisuge: I'm satisfied with the ability scores you have, but you are free to roll them using the character creation rules. Your call though. A cleric focusing on casting, with a little trap skill to boot, would be a nice character concept.

This recruitment will be a very short one. Currently, my players are in the very last fight before reaching their destination. I'd prefer the new character up and ready by the time they get there.

Ah well. So, let's see.

Name: Elara Korechilde
Race: Female Human
Class: Cleric of Asmodeus
Alignment: LN
Party role: Divine caster, Offensive Channeller
Domains: Trickery, Magic
Backstory: Born into a family of minor nobles, Elara early on displayed immense pride and arrogance. Her family however placed all power in its male heirs and members, and for attempting to claim rights and privileges Elara was frequently and harshly punished. Locked in the darkened cellar that was her place of punishment, Elara brooded and recited some of the dark chants she had been taught by a long-gone tutor. A demon appeared, and the two made a bargain. One day she challenged her father to a duel as per the family bylaws, slew him and took over the household. Within a week however, his friends had discovered her crime and had her arrested and charged with murder.
Personality: Elara firmly believes in the sith code. Peace is a lie, there is only passion. Through passion, I gain strength. Through strength, I gain power. Through power, I gain victory. Through victory, my chains are broken. My mind shall free me. She is honourable, recognizing that a secure and reinforced social structure is the only way the strong can survive and prosper, lest they be dragged down by the weak. She distrusts men and elves, does not believe halflings and gnomes are worthy of attention, and dislikes those who use their powers for charitable means without expecting anything in return.

Strength: 8
Dexterity: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17
Constitution: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
Intelligence: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
Wisdom: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
Charisma: 18

Ouch, maybe you should go back to the oracle concept with those rolls.

I'm actually happy with it. Human bonus will go into wisdom, giving me enough to cast with until I get a headband. Charisma gives me what I need for the channelling, which I plan on focusing on. Do you need a completed sheet before you would consider accepting me?

Shadow Lodge

You could go with the 18 wisdom 12 cha

I would like to submit for consideration, a rogue/ranger.

Str: 3d6 ⇒ (4, 4, 1) = 9
Dex: 3d6 ⇒ (5, 2, 4) = 11
Con: 3d6 ⇒ (6, 6, 3) = 15
Int 18
Wis: 3d6 ⇒ (3, 1, 5) = 9
Chr 8

I can flesh him out a bit more if accepted, but this would be my first online character.

Also, I can post almost every day, pretty much all day long, I am disabled so I don't have much else to do.

DM, I'm take a shot on the rolls, if you don't mind.

Strength. 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
Dexterity. 8
Constitution 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
Intelligence 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
Wisdom. 18
Charisma 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14

DM:

Spoiler:
I'm generally an active poster involved in multiple PbP games here on the site. Even on my busiest days I generally get a morning post and an evening post in, if there is something to respond to. On my slower days I generally post all throughout the day. I've got close to 13000 posts on the site now, lol, I have no idea how that happened! But I'm regular and dependable. If I'm away for a long period, I notify you beforehand. Any questions, let me know.

Edit: lol, can I go back to the 20 point buy in my sheet? I'll want to reassign the 20 based on my desire to be a caster focused rather than switch hitting. I was thinking something like Strength 10, Dex 13, Con 12, Int 13, Wis 15, Cha 14 before modifiers. I'd take +2 to Wis, making that a 17. My Vampiric feat would make my Con a ten, after the minus two was added in.

I'll accept a character before seeing a completed sheet. Its not like you'll be thrown immediately into combat so I'm not that picky.
I mainly just want race, class, ability scores and alignment. Anything extra is a bonus, of course.

It's funny, I've never had any problems with the character generation rules before, yet it seems to be failing pretty badly.
Yeah, if you're unhappy with your rolls, the 20pt buy system is acceptable. Generally, the 1d10+7 rule should work out better, but alas, the dice don't appear to be cooperating.

Would we still be using 8 and 18 in choice stats with the d10+7 rolls?

Grand Lodge

If so then I guess it will be this.

Str: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
Dex: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17
Con: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
Int 18
Wis: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
Chr 8

Oh, I'm just saying you have two choices:
1) Us the method presented in the recruitment page (one score is 18, one score is 8, all others are 1d10+7).
2) 20pt buy for all ability scores.
Personally, I prefer the randomness of the 1st option, since it forces players to adjust to their character and limits min-maxing. Still, sometimes the dice just plain suck, I can understand that.

Yeah, that is much better.

Yeah, had to use that re-roll, put the +2 for human in Wis. This is the char basic, if you like.

Well, sure. Are you still going for the ranger/rogue? Not sure by your rolls since you seem to have focused on intelligence.

Grand Lodge

Yes, I always put high Int on my Rog characters. They are a skill based class, and I treat them as such.

Out of curiosity, what time zone do you live in?

STR: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
DEX: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
CON: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9
INT=8
WIS=18
CHA: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
Re-roll (as per original post)

STR: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9
DEX: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15
CON: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16
INT=8
WIS=18
CHA: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13

Cool. I had a WotW game peter out at the manor, so this would be pretty great.

I put together a Tiefling Cleric (Fiendish Vessel). With these stats, she's going to be a pure caster, probably with a bunch of channel evil thrown for good measure. Details in the profile.

I'll flesh out the details of the background if you choose this PC, but the basic idea would be that she's recently arrived from Cheliax following a profane summons. She eventually met up with Thorn and now awaits further instruction at the manor. She's completely dedicated to spreading Asmodeus' will and restablishing Talingarde's connection with Cheliax

Mahorfeus here. I was going to take the Dual Talent alternate trait to mitigate the 8 Constitution, but I feel that the loss of the feat and skill point would not have been worth it. (And as you said, this is an undead gig after all.) Mordin is an Oracle of the Bones mystery. His body is slowly wasting away, so he already looks the part; he acknowledges this as a blessing instead of a curse, and sees undeath as a path to immortality. Naturally, his penchant for necromancy makes him a public enemy. He likely has every reason to be at the manor already, but I'll elaborate on his backstory when I get the chance.

I have the crunch mostly ready, but it's on my home computer - I'll get that information onto this alias as soon as possible. Mordin will be lacking in the healing department, at least until everyone makes the change into undead (negative energy, and all), though he can take cure light wounds if it's necessary for the time being.

Thought I'd just pop by to sample all the fresh meat--err fresh faces, yes that's the phrase - faces; got to remember that one...

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Ah yes. Allow me to introduce our local sorcerer Donovan, or as he's more commonly know, "Eater of things that would otherwise just go to waste".

In case it matters, I live in Sydney Australia. (UTC + 10)

Profile has been updated with the crunch. I have a sizable amount of gold leftover, but nothing to really spend it on. At least, not without over-encumbering him. Currently considering a wand of some sort, though.

Also, the Friend of the Dead trait comes from the Inner Sea Primer, so that would be up to your approval.

@Freyja, from your WotW campaign it looks to me like your GM (Avatar of Mitra) might restart things in the future. Is this the case or are you sure it's finished?

@Durova: Your previous WotW campaign does look dead (inactive since September). Are you simply going straight human? Pity you've already completed two of the 'lessons' in the manor since that will mean I should replace them with puzzles/tasks of my own design.

@Mordin: The trait only applies if you're from Geb. Other than that, it's permissible. Does your oracle have a deity?

It's a long way from Geb to Talingarde if I'm interpreting the location you gave it correctly, but that's appropriate enough; he'd certainly be willing to travel that far to corrupt a land that follows a "pure" deity. I'll work that into his backstory. That being said, he is definitely a worshiper of Urgathoa, whose portfolio most fits his desire for undeath. He's not quite a priest of course, but he is convinced (whether it is true or not) that his condition (and perhaps his current predicament) are her doing.

Sovereign Court

hmmm Is this open? I'm surprised it's still up thinking that your replacement would have being chosen already.

I do plan on going straight human.

I could certainly take a backseat on the first two challenges, if you don't have time to replace them, DM. Then when we get to one I haven't done, I can start chiming in more heavily.

@Gm of Light: If he does, I'll just keep up with 2 campaigns. I'm running a skill rogue in that campaign and the PC's would play completely differently, so I'm not worried about repetition. Besides, he's running a heavily modified campaign, with all the PCs having specific side quests and such. I just thought it would be fun to play an evil cleric.

Okay, I think we're all good then. Damn this is a tough choice, but the party is very close to the manor so I better stop procrastinating and make a decision.

Durova, I do need to see a 100% finished character, but are you still up for playing our cleric? One thing I will mention is that you get 'The Bitten' feat for free. I'll explain details later. I will PM you specific background info.

Thanks to all who showed interest.

Awesome! Thanks for the nod, DM.

PM me with suggestions and I'll get to work on updating the sheet. I'll work on it most of tomorrow.
