Help!!! Has anyone used this Hook

Skull & Shackles

In the back of the book. There are 4 rumors/treasure hunts for the players to chase down. I had a side trek that took my gang to Taldas to Little Oppara. One of the players tried to do some gathering of information he rolled good and I blabbed about the parrot. Sooooo!!! they are now trying to find out more information.

The Lost Messenger
Although he started as a Taldan jeweler, Liat Murks eventually made a name for himself among the crew of the Deprived, who claimed the scrawny man could fix anything. By night he endlessly tinkered, eventually creating a shiny silver toucan of springs and cogs. One
morning he loaded the metal bird with a rescue plea and set it loose. But so convincing was the device—even to itself—that it flew into the jungles near Mgange Cove and was never seen again.

If anyone has some ideas or dealt with the same side trek let me know.

Well, if it does exist (they are just rumors, and our GM rolled randomly and turned out this one didn't in our game), the bird itself would almost certainly be a Clockwork Familiar (see AP#63 The Asylum Stone, or the d20pfsrd) with an unusually long operational duration (and probably of the Scroll variety). I'm not sure about how to run tracking the thing down, but if you brought it with you and rescued the guy (if he's still alive), he would probably let the PCs keep it as a reward.

I was planning on using this guy as a crafter of superior mechanical limbs for the inevitable instance of pegleg. He isn't stated to be dead so I'm planning on using him as a barter quest. bring back his long lost creation. his first spark of brilliance and he will craft a limb worth of folks capable of doing such a thing.
Plan had been to have the Toucan worshiped by a Kuru temple village as an Icon of one of their gods.

This is fairly brilliant, actually. I'll be lucky if I get my group through the basic modules (let alone side quests) but this is a great idea.

I did this when the party was waiting around at Rickety Squibs the first time. I changed the location of the toucan to the Slithering Coast. The party went on a 3 day jungle trek and found the powered down toucan perched in a tree in a jungle valley. As it turned out, the tree was actually a nirento (Isles of the Shackles) that the party had to deal with to retrieve the toucan.

In game mechanics, I treat the toucan as a figurine of wonderous power: silver raven, except mechanical instead of magical.
