Must the area of a shapeable spell be contiguous?

Rules Questions

I've read a bunch of older posts on this topic but didn't really find any definitive answer (official or otherwise). Does anyone have any further light to shed on the topic, or is it still in the realm of GM prerogative?

It's tenuous, but the Shapeable quality is listed as a sub-section of the Area section and under the general rules for the Area section (which would apply to all area spells by default, save for specific exceptions), it refers to spells with an Area effect to affect an area. That's singular; "an area" rather than "an area or areas". Since Shapeable doesn't include a specific exception to this, it stands to reason that the default rule applies; even a shapeable spell still only affects an area (singular).
