This. I believe this should be 1 or 2 sessions before the main campaign of reclaiming the world from darkness. Playing characters from 1-20 just to have them die without even defeating the bad guy would feel pretty lame. It's even worse if you tell them beforehand. What would be the point?


There is no win or lose in an RPG imho. There is only the enjoyment of the story.

End a game like the way Mass Effect 3 ended you should expect criticism.


If you've already decided how the story will play out, including the ending...

Go ahead and write the damn novel. Don't lure your players in with a pretense that their actions will make a difference.
