STARFINDER FOR ALEXA RETURNS WITH EPISODES FOUR TO SIX!

Nathan Fillion and Laura Bailey are back for the second half of the season, alongside a veteran voice cast, including Kevin Pariseau, Elizabeth Evans, Allyson Johnson, LJ Ganser, and Lauren Fortgang. To celebrate the launch, customers who purchase the Starfinder Beginner Box in-game receive the first episode of the audio adventure free!

The second half of Starfinder is available starting today, featuring three brand-new episodes. The Starfinder skill for Alexa is a multi-part interactive audio adventure game that transports players to a futuristic science-fantasy world where they can make decisions to advance and influence the outcome of the story just by using their voice. By simply saying “Alexa, play the Starfinder game,” customers can play one of the most captivating audio games available on Alexa-enabled devices today. According to Amazon, users have played nearly 2 million minutes of Starfinder, making it one of the most popular Alexa skills this year.

Starfinder features an exceptional voice cast of 13 actors, with casting led by Audible Studios. Nathan Fillion (The Rookie, Castle, and Firefly) and Laura Bailey (The Last of Us Part II) join a cast of veteran voice actors of Audible, including Kevin Pariseau, Elizabeth Evans, Allyson Johnson, LJ Ganser, and Lauren Fortgang.

Paizo and Amazon collaborated to reimagine the roleplaying game for Alexa. The free-to-play pilot episode of Starfinder, “Scoundrels in the Spike,” debuted in December 2019, and episodes 1 to 3 were launched on August 4, 2020, to much fanfare.

For players looking to continue the adventure outside Alexa, the Starfinder Beginner Box can now be purchased from within the skill. With streamlined rules, this deluxe boxed set includes everything needed to explore the futuristic tabletop RPG setting. In celebration of the launch, players who purchase the Beginner Box in-game will receive their first episode free.

The full season of Starfinder is now available in the United States and the United Kingdom on Alexa-enabled devices, including Amazon Echo, Fire TV, and the Alexa mobile app (explore more Alexa-enabled devices here); players have numerous access points to the game and can resume playing whenever, wherever. Don’t forget that anyone with a mobile device can download the Amazon Alexa app and play the voice-based game, too. The pilot is free to play, and customers can purchase each episode for $1.99 or the full season for $9.99.

Very cool!

Is this game playable for people who don't own an Alexa? In Jim Butler's link on the earlier blog, I didn't find any options to purchase the season pass without purchasing a device. Only gave me the option to "Get started with Alexa." Won't allow me to purchase in-app on my phone, either.

Good question.

To be clear, the game is optimized for Echo devices. Forgive me while I channel Abadar and give you the sales pitch: Today and tomorrow you can pick up an Echo Dot for as little as $18.00 because it is PrimeDay.

Now for something a bit more "Cayden Cailean."
1. Download Alexa for PC or Mac for free
2. Install and sign-in with your Amazon account
3. Click to purchase the season on Amazon.com
4. Once the purchase is successful, you should be able to resume playing either on the mobile app or using the PC/Mac.

Ok, "Cayden" in that it is free, "Nethys" in its complexity. We aspire to streamline this in the future.

It's pity this is not available in Germany :(
I don't need a translated version, would be totally happy to play this in English - but it is only available in the amazon.com skill store, and not in the amazon.de skill store, and the Alexa / Echo devices are limited to one skill store ...
Any chance you can work with Amazon to bring this (without translation) to the amazon.de Skill Store?
That would be great!
Thanks

Be assured we have an ongoing conversation with Amazon regarding this topic. We hope to expand it, but have nothing to announce at this time.

Any news when the episodes will be available in Australia?

Hey, is there any more news on Alexa Starfinder's future? With it being such a big success, I was hoping more seasons might be coming down the pipeline.

Been picking the first season back up after opening up Galaxy Exploration Manual, and...it's still so much fun to play! I really can't wait to hear more.

There is, at PAIZOCON I got the hint that a big company picked it up to continue with this, and just found the article on it to!!

"Amazon Passes Big Budget Alexa Game Starfinder Management to Swedish Developer Wanderword
ERIC HAL SCHWARTZ on May 28, 2021 at 1:00 pm
Swedish audio entertainment developer Wanderword is taking over the management of the high-profile Alexa game Starfinder from original developers Amazon and Paizo. Wanderword will continue supporting the game and plans to expand the popular space adventure.

WANDERING STAR
Starfinder is an episodic space adventure for Alexa starring the voices of Laura Bailey and Nathan Fillion. Game developer Paizo created Starfinder as a tabletop role-playing game at first but then partnered with Amazon to turn it into an interactive science-fantasy game where the player’s choice of character and the decisions they make during the game change how the story evolves. Each of the current six episodes takes about 90 minutes to complete, varying depending on the player’s choices. The first episode is free, but the whole season costs $10. The game has been available for about a year and a half, picking up two Project Voice awards this year. Wanderword is taking over for Paizo and Amazon after signing a licensing agreement to push the game forward.

“We are proud to be a part of the Starfinder community and are huge fans of both Pathfinder and Starfinder. We will make sure that we honor this great IP and we will support, grow, and keep the community active through a number of actions,” Wanderword CEO Johan Strömberg said. “Wanderword and its founders have worked with interactive audio entertainment since 2012 and we are happy to have been selected by Paizo and Amazon to take this awarded production further.

GAME TIME
Starfinder is one of the growing numbers of sophisticated voice games put out as developers get more ambitious. Studios like Earplay are publishing intense audio games like The Orpheus Device, which lets players explore a haunted house and investigate ghosts solely by voice, and Pac-Man Waka Waka, a Pac-Man game with movement controls based on the made-up Wakanese. language. For Starfinder to maintain its prestige, Wanderword will have to stay creative in how it applies Alexa’s voice technology.

“Wanderword’s expertise in interactive audio entertainment for the global mobile and smart speaker market is an excellent partner to take the innovative and award-winning Starfinder Alexa Skill we developed and published with Amazon to an even wider audience,” Paizo vice president Jim Butler said. “With them, we can work to bring it to more users and show what is possible with this evolving technology.”

Cheers
