Hey guys,

It's been a while since I GM'ed a Society game, and have been doing it a bit lately to get some new coworkers into it. A question came up though that I'm not sure on the answer to:

In the past, to get a "free" CLW wand early on, you could spend 2 PP (one item 750 gp or less) and snag it. I assumed the same could be done now. However, I did see a thread or two suggesting that the player still needed 9 Fame before he could do so (allowing access to buying them).

Probably just missing this in the rules, but can you purchase things above your normally available list when spending 2 Prestige in this fashion? Or will he need to wait until 9 Fame before being able to blow 2 PP on a CLW wand?

Thanks!

The rule is still the same. You can purchase items from you PP even if you do not meet the fame requirement.

You can even grab things that aren't "Always Available" as well, such as a Dragonhide Breastplate (which is normally 700gp, iirc).

I agree with the two posters above but..., where in the current Guide does it say you can use your 2 prestige to buy an item like a CLW wand? We know you can't buy it with gold until you get to 9 fame.

pathfinder guide to organized play has a chart on p. 26
can also see chart in pathfinder field guide as well

saw that, but it does not say you can buy items that are normally not available.

That's because it doesn't need to because you are not making a purchase. You are acquiring the item through favors. There is no exchange of gold, and no purchase. The Fame restrictions for purchasing items with gold are just that, restrictions on purchasing items with gold.

Its actually page 26 subnote 3 on the PP purchase chart.

Items purchased through Prestige points (like using 1 or 2 PP to make a free purchase) have a value of 0 gold.

Well if it has a value of 0 gold..then by the fame chart...you dont need any fame to make the purchase right?

:)
