Advice for a Cleric who abandoned his faith?

Advice

Howdy folks!

I've come to an interesting character development in King Maker.

Anyone within Helio83's KM group, please overlook this.

Summary

My cleric of Abadar has been a zealous and headstrong man who's placed reverence for his faith above other's beliefs and tried to force religion down their throats. After an entire day of being slapped around, receiving little grace from Abadar and nearly dieing, my cleric is faced with a daunting question - Is this the right faith for him?

Don't read if you haven't played the 1st Book of Kingmaker AP: The Stolen Lands:

I've been playing in a 4 player splendid group who enjoy RP and taking our time withing the adventure. Needless to say, we haven't gone much farther than routing the bandits at Camp Thornford.

Currently, I've been rocking a zealous abadite who's taken the drawback feat Headstrong and I've gone full into character. There hasn't been a person I've gotten into an argument with in the campaign. Its gotten to the point where I've even been kicked out of Oleg's trading post!

Thankfully, my GM has been a real bro and rolled with the punches. While throwing some monsters at the Trading Post, my character had wandered within the wilderness to clear his head, gets ambushed by a bandit and suffice to say - even in his darkest hour - divine spells such as CLW and Channel Energy were abysmal scores. Playing along that my actions weren't approved by my god, I was dropped to 0, saved by teammates, gets into a duel with Kesten Garess, gets his butt handed to him.

Basically, it wasn't my character's day.

So after a series of tribulations, I haven't done anything inherently worth me losing cleric powers according to Abadaran Faith.

Faiths of Balance by Paizo wrote:

Abadaran clergy are forbidden to attack one another, for their primary allegiance must always be to civilization as a whole, rather than a particular sect or nation.

Abadarans are likewise encouraged to refrain from war against others of their faith, but this proscription lacks teeth. More importantly, they are forbidden to accept or offer bribes or engage in public corruption, and those faithful who do so may find their tongues tied and their hands
numb when they try to conduct their deals.

So, given that I've received much character development, I'm presented with several options.

1. Atone

2. Choose to become a Cleric of a new faith

3. Ask my GM if I can change my class, or multiclass into something else.

So, faithful community of Paizo. Given what confusing information I've presented, do any of you have any suggestions or ideas I can for my character who's questioning faith?

What are you talking about?

What did your cleric do that violated his faith????

I don't see anyhing here...

Might wanna become a Paladin mate. Sounds like the kinda guy you're roleplaying.

If he is simply having doubts? What kind of headstrong cleric, a devout follower... gives up his faith because he had a bad day??

That isn't faith, that is casual flippant un-devoted lip service at best. This man is blessed by Abadar… has a bad day… and turns his back on the god who grants him the power to wield and channel divine might? Wut.

A bad day, everybody has a bad day. Clerics tend to get the most of bad days because it's good flavor for rp. Maybe you could flavor it like you are being tested to join the ranks of the Balanced Scales of Abadar prestige class from one of the katapesh books.

I find your lack of faith disturbing...

1. Seriously though, an atonement at this point seems like a good idea, not because you've had a bad day... but because you turn your back on your god after "a bump in the road".

2. I know there isn't really any rule against it... but option 2 seems unlikly, no god, outside of a maybe a chaos lord or something is going to want to take in a fallower who turned his back on his previous god over an "off day". You'd have to show some big time "new leaf" kinda stuff. Of course your GM might have another optionion, so that's just me.

3. I'm not sure how your GM feels about it, but I don't allow changing previous class levels w/o serious amounts of game time retraining and "unlearning" everything it took your character a decade to learn. Multiclassing, however, is always on the table.

I aggree with you on that. Its like, I'm thinking in the over all grand scheme of things. Then again, I haven't played a cleric before - only Paladin, hence probably my skewed sense of faith and devotion?

Yea, thats what the session felt like which most of it was due to my character making bad decisions..=_=

I guess this thread's point is moot.

Sorry for wasting your time, Paizo Community.

It's not a waste of time if it gets you back on the path you want to go.

Thanks, man.

I had been talking to the GM about my character's current standing within the faith, and I wanted there to be a "fall from grace" aspect within the character's development. Obviously not overnight or within a few sessions, but within the advancement of KingMaker that my Cleric would find adoration in another being that worshipped Order.

After some time, my GM came up with the brilliant idea of worshiping Mammon, the Open Palm. While not inherently evil or bad as his contemporaries, he does indeed mirror Abadar in most respects.

The question would be - how would folks handle a devil worshiper within their midst. Has anyone experience working a player who's character follows the Asmodeun faith?

Haven't checked the boards but I can help with the Asmodeun stuff. I played an Asmodeun mage in a party of paladins, focused on the demon killing stuff and lawful aspects and somehow got elected leader of the party. I think because I was the only one willing to dirty my hands with blood. It's hard to pull off, but it can be very rewarding. Played a Chelaxian wizard that got the same paladin to fall twice... by accident.

Needless to say folks, thanks for the input. Role play has it that I'll be with Abadar.
