Hello!

GM Introduction +++
GM. Jason aka elorebaen
I am 40 yrs old. I have been playing DnD off and on, for the last 30 years, mostly as a GM. I have played a variety of other RPGs but DnD is my first love. My degree is in Philosophy and I enjoy teaching. I have been an avid fantasy reader since 2nd grade. Some of my favorites include: The Malazan Book of the Fallen, The Prince of Nothing, The Elric Saga, and so forth. I am a Paizo junkie.

I am seeking 4 or 5 kindred souls for a regular campaign of serious DnD.

General Assumptions +++

• Cooperative environment. We all work towards making the experience a good one.
• Rules. I am not a rules-lawyer. I have a fair grasp of the rules, but I realize I do not know it all. I expect that we will work together on issues dealing with the rules. I expect that you will be familiar with the rules associated with your characters, and be able to help me with those as needed.
• Commitment. Once a week, or twice a month. Most likely EST favorable times, but with that said there is flexibility.
• Roleplaying. Roleplaying, getting “into” the world and your characters, is the most important goal. Most importantly, bring the elements (homeland, faction, background, etc) of the world that your character is a part of into the sessions as much as possible. These interesting character elements are wasted if you do not find interesting ways to bring them into actual gameplay. If are not interested in roleplaying, do not sign up.
• Active. Everyone is supposed to actively participate in making a session as good as it can be. I would rather someone be absent then show up and not be active. If you are not interested in being active, do not sign up.
• Respect. Respect myself, and the members of the group. Everyone is busy, and everyone has to sacrifice to make time for this group activity, so do not expect anyone to be your secretary. If you are going to be late/absent, notify the group in a timely fashion. If you only care about yourself, do not sign up.
• GM Expectation. Every session I will have prepared the means to adventure. After every session I will write up a short session summary. I do not claim to be the best GM, but I am constantly trying to improve.

Campaign Specific +++

Gaming Medium and Communication

• Medium. Maptool (VTT) and Skype (VoIP). Both of these tools are free. The combination of these tools can nearly emulate the traditional face-to-face experience, with the benefit of not having to travel to someone's house. It is not necessary that you have experience with these tools; they are easy to pick up with use. I can and will, help you with these tools as is necessary. With that said, you are responsible for making sure your setup is ready to go prior to a session (e.g. mic settings, internet connection, etc, etc).
• Group Communication. Google/Yahoo group and Calendar, and a Campaign website. You should plan on approximately one e-mail per week. If you cannot be bothered to read/respond to e-mail, and/or do not want to sign-up for a Group, and/or do not like the internet, then do not sign up for the campaign.

Themes and Ruleset

• Campaign Setting. The setting is Golarion. If you are not interested in Golarion, or are not interested in learning about Golarion, do not sign up.
• Campaign Storylines. TBD (My plan is to offer some options to be decided upon by the group, and as such expect more details to come.). The campaign will involve Paizo Adventure Paths and Modules. I mention these so that you can be sure to avoid spoiler information from these storylines, or if you are familiar with them, you can decide if it will be enjoyable for you (and the group) to be a part of the campaign.
• Campaign Themes. Adventure, Exploration, and TBD. (expect more details to come).
• Old School Flavor. The campaign will have “old school” themes. The vibe is meant to be a tool to foster a challenging and interesting campaign. I mean two main things when I think “old school”:
• There is a real potential for character death, you should not expect that encounters will have perfectly balanced CRs, in general, punches will not be pulled. The world and campaign is meant to be rather dark.
• There will be random encounters, and it is up to all of us to meld them into the story.
• Ruleset. Pathfinder RPG.

Interview

There will be a two-part interview process, so that we can see if we on the same page. I believe this is important for all involved. I will endeavor to be fair an honest, and expect the same from you. There is no reason for us to waste our time if we are just not compatible.

• Skype chat. A short chat, I imagine no longer than 30 minutes. This will give us a chance to see if we are get along on a personal level. Within a week of this chat, I will e-mail you as to my decision to invite you to the next part in the interview process or not.
• Sample session with pregens. I imagine a short adventure with those who make it through the first part of the interview process. This will give us an opportunity see if we get along on a gaming level. I will also be on the lookout for potential group dynamic issues. Within a week of this chat, I will e-mail you as to my decision to invite you to the group.

Characters +++
I want you to make characters you find interesting and want to play. The rules, suggestions and themes below are there to offer guidance specific to the campaign. I will work with you on character creation.

• Adventure. Your character should crave adventure. Do not create a character concept that sees you shying away from adventure.
• Party Cohesion. Your character should have a reason to want the party to stay together through thick and thin. Do not create a loner type character, unless that character has had a change of heart.
• Background. Short and to the point, and should include the following:
• Homeland, and deity should be included. In general, you are from the Inner Sea region.
• Why are you here? (Starting place of adventure.)
• What do you like? What do you dislike?
• Quests and Campaigns, and Ultimate Campaign, Ch2. will/should be used in the development of backgrounds.

• Alignment. No evil, and CN. The party should, roughly, tend towards good.
• Feats. No magic item creation feats.
• Character Class. Try to find a “niche” within the group. Try not to step on another’s “niche.”
• Traits. At character creation you will receive two traits. One of them (Campaign trait) will be tied directly your character’s background reason for being involved in the campaign.
• Backup Character. You should maintain at least one back-up PC in case of PC death. This PC should remain the same level as your main PC. Back-up PC has the same overall total wealth as the PC. The back-up PC has same access to items that the main PC has. For example, the party has adventured in Cassomir, and thus the back-up PC would have access to Cassomir merchants. This approach may need to be tweaked as we proceed.
• NPCs will also be available, if needed.
• Ability Scores. Use Standard Fantasy point buy.
• Gaming Sources.

• Any official Paizo supplement is legal. This includes errata and FAQ clarifications.
• In general, Super Genius Games, Kobold Press, and Rite Publishing supplements are legal, except no Race supplements. There is one caveat, 3PP material must be agreed upon by the entire party and given the okay by the GM, before use.
• Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Reference Document (Rules)
• PathfinderWiki (World information)
• PFSRD (Rules)

• Experience (XP). The traditional manner of awarding XP will be used. PCs will use the Medium progression.

• Leveling. This occurs after a good, uninterrupted, night's rest.
• Story XP. The GM will award story XP as it makes sense for the story.

• Inventory. Encumbrance and Carrying Capacity will be used. This is intended as a tool to foster interesting survival elements to the campaign. Moreover, if it is not written down, you do not have it.
• Absent Players. I would like to start with the following approach.

• If the Majority of players can be present, then the session moves forward.
• If you are not present, then your PC is not present.
The GM has the last word.

PM through the forum with questions and/or interest.

Cheers!
E

• Sounds just up my alley. I would love to have the initial Skype Chat with you as the first part of the interview. However, I am totally swamped this week (including the weekend). Can we schedule our chat for next week?

Shadow Lodge

I am very interested in this type of campaign. I've been wanting to get into a long running campaign for awhile now. Do we have any more specifics about where the campaign will take place yet, or is that still TBD?

Hello Degenerous,

Thank you for taking the time to review my post and respond. We can definitely set up a Skype chat for next week. I'll send details via the PM function.

Hello Daedalaman,

Thank you for taking the time to review my post and respond. The campaign will definitely take place on Golarion/Inner Sea. Nothing too specific at this time, though it will most likely be grounded in one of the Paizo Adventure Paths and/or Modules. I am leaning towards Carrion Crown, or Mummy's Mask, or Dragon's Demand. There are some other choices I have floating around, and was waiting to chat about it once I have a few more players together. When the campaign would actually start, will be based on the choice. Whatever is chosen, the style of the campaign will be what I described in my original post.

If you are still interested please let me know. Thanks!

Best,
E

Scarab Sages

I'm interested.

Maptool Skill Level: Between proficient and expert, although complex Frameworks bother me to no end

Ways to contact:

email: archmagi1@yahoo dot com

I hope my times will work out for the group.

Hello archmagi1,

My apologies for the delayed response. Thank you for reading my post and responding. It looks like your available times wouldn't be compatible with my schedule. Are you available on any weekend times?

Best,
E

Dotting for interest. I'll read it and send a response when I can.

Hello Jason,

I am interested in setting up a chat with you, as this sounds like the style of game which is up my alley.

If you specified when play would occur already, I've missed it, but time-wise, I would prefer to play Sunday or Monday evenings.

Scarab Sages

Unfortunately Fridays and Saturdays are reserved for family time, and I run my game on Sunday evenings.

Hello Elrik,

Thank you for taking the time to read my post and respond. A time wasn't specifically set, but now things are leaning towards a Sun evening. But things are still in flux as we interview potential players.

Let's chat further. I will send further information via PM.

Archmagi1,

Thank you for taking the time to look into the situation. We are definitely leaning towards Sun evenings, but if that changes I will make sure to contact you.

All,

Thank you for all of the responses. I am going to close the post for now as it looks like we are set for the moment. I will re-open it if a space becomes available.

Best,
E

I am very interested in trying to get involved with you guys. I have skype, RPtools and all the books needed. I have almost completely open availability, have six characters created (not no life, just love anything D&D.) Don't make evil characters unless I'm DM (obviously). Other than that email me at masterodellin@yahoo.com or respond on here and I'll tell you what you want to know.

I m a noob right now but this is exactly the RPG set up I want to experience!
