Captain Marvel movie

Comics

It is just wishful thinking that Phase 3 includes a Captain Marvel Carol Danvers) movie? I hope I am not alone in this.

So who would you cast?

PS: Also on a side note I would love to see a poster for this hypothetical movie be done in the style of the Iron Man 3 and Thor 2 movies. Only with a man playing the part of the damsel and holding onto Captain Marvel in the same way Gwyneth Paltrow and Natalie Portman do.

I know it would never happen, but it would be funny.

No. The OP means Captain Marvel.

HERE

To the OP: The first person who comes to mind is Katee Sackhoff (Bionic Woman, BSG, Riddick)

like I said miss marvel :)

edit:but did not know there were that many captain marvels, yeesh.

Captain Marvel

Like I said, Captain Marvel. :)

Fawcett ceased publishing Captain Marvel-related comics in 1953, partly because of a copyright infringement suit from DC Comics, alleging that Captain Marvel was a copy of Superman. In 1972, DC licensed the Marvel Family characters and returned them to publication, acquiring all rights to the characters by 1991. DC has since integrated Captain Marvel and the Marvel Family into their DC Universe, and have attempted to revive the property several times with mixed success.

Because Marvel Comics trademarked their Captain Marvel comic book during the interim between the original Captain Marvel's Fawcett years and DC years, DC has used the trademark Shazam! to promote the property since 1972, instead of the name "Captain Marvel". Consequently, Captain Marvel himself has often been referred to as "Shazam", leading to DC to rename the character during their New 52 relaunch in 2012.

This might explain the name fiasco..

Anyway, thread got derailed faster than it could take flight. Thanks guys. lol

Katee Sackhoff seem like a no brainer. She is a good actress who is tough as nails.

I also think Yvonne Strahovski looks a lot like the character. But is IMO not as good of an actress as Katie.

Charlize Theron would be awesome and she is a big enough star she could carry the movie.

Sackhoff as my only choice. Hopefully, the rumors and fans campaigning for it will pan out.

Edit: OK, I could support Strahovski as Danvers too. I love Theron, but I'm not sure she'd sign a multi-movie contract or that tight-with-their-money Marvel could afford her.

I kind of wish they'd just name Carol "Marvel" with no epithet. That would avoid confusion.

I'm a big fan of Ms. Danvers. But I feel sorry for oldskool fans of the Captain Marvel who was indeed the man they now call Shazam. It just sort of all creates a big mess. (I can think of my dad, who no longer reads comics, but loved Captain Marvel/Shazam when he was a little boy. He'd look and Carol Danvers and say, who's that, Mary Marvel?)

I would like to see a Carol Danvers movie, and I think they could do interesting things with it. And if Marvel beat DC to it before DC gets off their butts to make a Wonder Woman movie, it'd serve them right.

I'd love to see a movie with either Captain Marvel (Marvel or DC). I think Katee Sackhoff would be a great Carol Danvers.

Not sure who I'd want as the Big Red Cheese, though. I think Nathan Fillion could probably pull off the earnest goofiness, but I feel like he's gotten too old to look the part.

I'd go with Tricia Helfer--looks, height, attitude!

Helfer would be a significantly better choice than Sackhoff, who has something a little too unattractively butch about her to effectively portray Carol Danvers. Just wouldn't work.

Well, since Carol Danvers comes from a military background and had to deal with alcohol, I tend to think that Sackhoff would be perfect!

Opinion noted. Quite simply, Carol Danvers has always been portrayed as a rare beauty, and Sackhoff just ain't in that class.

lol, every comic book character is portrayed that way.

I would be much happier if the actress can play the character 100% than looking the part 100%. That being said I do not have a lot of trust in Helfers acting chops whereas Sackhoff truly impressed me with the depth of character she brought to Starbuck.

What about Emily Blunt?

I'll take your word that such is a valid point. I never watched much nu-BG, and so will defer to your judgment on that.

She still don't get it done in the looks department, though.

Watch Helfer in her new show next Tuesday and then we'll get a fresh look at her acting chops...

There's been a couple of other Captain Marvels over at Marvel in the interim. There was a male Captain Marvel in the 70s and early 80s (Mar-Vell, an alien), and a female Captain Marvel after that, in the 80s and 90s (Monica Rambeau). And I think a couple since then. So the mess has already been there for a while, prior to Carol taking on the title.

Edit to add: It confused me too, when I started reading comics. I knew the Marvel one first, though. I'd always thought of the DC one as Shazam, due to the TV show.

I'd be up for Sackhoff in the role. I think she'd be perfect.

Edit to add: There's a new Ms. Marvel on the way as well. (And here's her supporting cast.)

Insofar as I'm concerned, they can call Carol Danvers "Captain Marvel" 'til Crack of Doom. Mar-Vell of Kree-lar will always be Captain Marvel.

I've always liked Carol Danvers, a girl with guts, who has coped with tragedy more than once, and I would be more than happy if she was brought on screen!
I remember the first time I saw her in an Avengers annual, drawn by George Perez with the sinister squadron, then drawn by Byrne inthe Michelinie/Byrne run on avengers, she impressed me a lot with her high boots and sexy outfit!
And you, what's your favorite moment with Carol?

To me, she has become and will remain "Warbird".

That's a great name for her.

I found the alcoholism thing a little tiresome, but ... great characters have great flaws, I suppose.

My favorite moment for CD is Avengers #171, when she explains to Wonder Man her seeming fearlessness, something to the effect of, "I just think of what I'd do if I weren't afraid ... and then I try to do it anyway."

That's courage.

I kind of would prefer Yvonne Strahovski...I feel at this point Sackhoff is getting a serious case of type-casting as tough girl.

Also it would be nice to get a woman superhero. Marvel universe currently has Black Widow (who isn't super-powered), and that is about it.

Has anyone here seen Vikings? Would actress Katheryn Winnick have the chops to pull off Danvers?

I'd kinda like to see Natalie Dormer (Game of Throne's/Elementary/The Tudors) take a shot at Danvers, but I haven't seen her in anything with an American accent.

I'm not sure how anyone would do a Carol Danvers movie without an origin sequence.. Either they make one up out of whole cloth -- it worked for the Incredible Hulk TV show-- or else they introduce the Psyche-magnetron, Mar-vell and a whole lot of '70s Kree lore.

I think the whole cloth thing would work. Introduce Carol in another movie (friend/rival of Rhodey's, in a Shield movie with Clint and Natasha, Maybe a Captain America movie, but they already have Sharon Carter, so I'd keep her away from Shield) and she gets blasted by the bad guy. When she recovers, voila, her own powers and role. Kind of taking her original origin and her Avengers:EMH origin. "Guys, why am I so close to the ceiling?"
