Making sure we played Mammy Graul right

So my subcription order *finally* arrived yesterday and my girlfriend and I took our intrepid duo of Kyra and Seoni into Hook Mountain. I want to make sure we did Mammy Graul correctly.

The first time in the scenario that she would be defeated, she is undefeated. I presume that means you treat the first win against her as a loss?

My understanding:
Meet Mammy
Kill Skeletons
Fight Mammy
Lose? -> Mammy shuffles into a random location along with blessings from the blessing deck
Win? -> same thing? Also, don't close her location?
Win 2nd+ time? -> normal win

Basically the first time you defeat her she is shuffled back in as if you lost, grabbing blessing deck cards along the way, and her location doesn't auto-close (probably forcing you to play through the entire remaining deck).

Just want to make sure my interpretation is correct.

All correct.

So the only difference between a win and a loss against mammy is taking damage?
(On vacation and can't get my delivery of the new deck)

I think Mike is saying that you do have to defeat Mammy twice. Note ryric's sentence "the first time you defeat her she is shuffled back in as if you lost". That's still correct (as noted by Mike)

It's also in the preview, so you don't have to bust out the deck.

The other difference is where blessing cards come from:

* In a win, for each open location you draw from the box a number of blessings minus one, mix with Mammy, and redistribute at the locations.

* For a LOSS you take the blessings from the blessing pile, reducing the number of available turns you have left.

Also note you need to defeat her twice. If you lose the fight with her, you still need to defeat her twice (with the first defeat a loss).

Yeah, thankfully I didn't find her until the very last location. It's makes her tougher to defeat, but you don't lose several Blessings off the timer deck. That would be brutal in a large party.

Yeah I've had a tough time beating her I'm 0 and 4 with this scenario.

We got really lucky with our first play through last night. We were playing on Hard Mode, so any summoned henchman (from barriers etc) we defeated we would add to her +damage stack.

She ended up being in the last deck we had left to explore. With a healthy number of turns left in the blessing deck it took us 3 encounters to finally win. The first time she was pseudo-defeated, then we reshuffled her and came upon her within 2 turns again, this time Ezren failed to defeat her and took huge damage (no open locs so she got shuffled back into the same deck) by this time I think she ended up being +12 or so. We had 2 turns left and managed to encounter her just in time, with Seoni being assisted with blessings from all round the table to smash her good & dead.

Probably one of the most enjoyable / edge of the seat scenarios we've played so far, definitely not a cakewalk either if you play with the barrier henchman rule.

Well done paizo, we've got to get our Kyra through it again tonight, I feel nervous about it already!
