Taking metamagic feats as a martial class?

Rules Questions

Could I take something like the Still Spell metamagic feat as a 1st level Fighter? I don't see where its not allowed but I thought I would ask.

sure, you just can't use it if you can't cast a spell of 2nd level or above, so you're pretty much wasting the feat...

Thank you for the answer.

Actually you could prepare a 0 in a level 1 slot with still spell. Metamagic feats can't be used with spell-like abilities or items though. I'm not really sure you'd want a fighter with it as it's not a combat feat.

Now I am curious. Why would you want to do this?

I second that curiosity.
And I'd add that if you have the type of GM who are very hung up on details such as things making sence then he might houserule that you can't because how did you learn to cast spells silently (or still) without being able to first cast spells? Personally I would never disallow it because it is so horrible optimization wise.

Maybe to multiclass down the road, but your build requires you to get the feat early?

Otherwise, *shrug*

"I'm Planning on Multi Classing and don't want to waste my 1st level feat" is probably the answer.

Why yes it is to multiclass, wizard to be exact, followed by eldritch knight. Why yes I want to be that wizard rocking that full plate as I cast my Still Fireball.

Note there are a few sorcerer/wizard spells that don't have somatic components, so they can be cast in armor without needing Still Spell. Some examples:

0-level: flare, spark
1st: featherfall, true strike

Also, note that you can retrain feats later on.
