I'm about ready to start writing for realsies. Here's a warm up!

Other folks are welcome to post holiday-themed or joke items, but this thread is not intended to be a forum for reviews or advice, so please don't ask (although light-hearted reviews are welcome if anyone is generous enough to offer). It's just for fun and practice.

Also, do NOT post or talk about your contest submission here.

Boogie Shoes (260 words)
Aura overwhelming enchantment and evocation; CL 25th
Slot feet; Price 15,000 gp; Weight 1 lb.
Description
Even in the dark, sunshine gleams off these highly polished leather shoes, demanding the attention of everyone on the dance floor.

Once per night as a standard action, the wearer may holla at a humanoid within 30 ft. and make a Perform (dance) check. The target must succeed at a Will save (DC 10 + the wearer’s Charisma score) or be forced to dance adjacent to the wearer ‘til the sun comes up. During this period, neither dancer may take any action other than one mandatory Performance (dance) check and an optional 5-foot step each round. Any 5-foot step must end in a space adjacent to the other dancer. If the dancers are separated, they must use their turns to move as close as possible until they are adjacent. Once the effect activates, it may only end prematurely if something forces one or both dancers to fall unconscious or otherwise become immobile or separated by a distance of more than 30 ft.

Each other creature on the dance floor must make a Will save at the beginning of its turn each round (DC equals the last Perform (dance) check made by one of the two dancers) or be fascinated by the gleaming boogie shoes until its next turn. Fascinated creatures may dance if they want to. If they do not, the attitude of Ivan Doroschuk towards those creatures shifts to unfriendly.

Construction
Requirements Craft Wondrous Item, irresistible dance, sunburst; Cost 7,500 gp

EDIT: Changed a few things.
NOTE: It's CL 25th because I wanted the aura to be overwhelming.

Karmic Scales
Aura Strong universal magic; CL 16th
Slot Hand; Price 30,000 gp; Weight 5 lb.
Description
This mystical set of golden scales begins perfectly balanced. On one end of the scales is a plate of gold etched with the seal of the Yin and on the other side is a seal of Yang. Whenever a vote “for” the Karmic Scales is elected the item will increase weight on the Yin side and whenever an election of “against” it shifts its weight towards the Yang. If the item is elected in the top 32 then the balance for Yin will result in a insurgence of positive Karma into the lives of all those voting for it. If the item fails to win then an insurgence of negative karma is forced onto those negatively voting for the item. This new insurgence of Karma will take place into the next great event within their lives, swinging the balance positively or negatively depending on the judgments of the voter.

Here's one I originally thought up by contemplating what an item that had all three saving throws associated with it would look like. It was silly in more ways than one and I named it appropriately. The chaos this item would cause in a crowd or in the ranks of an army would be quite humorous. Bear in mind that I never fully finished this item and the price, cost, and spell requirements were not very well considered.

Hot Potato
Aura strong enchantment, evocation, and necromancy; CL 17th
Slot none; Price 26,000 gp; Weight 1 lb.
Description
This oblong silver spheroid is about the size of a man's fist and is polished to a fine sheen. Its surface is perfectly smooth when not activated, but is always warm to the touch. Once activated, slits randomly distributed over the surface open up to reveal gemstones of varying types recessed within.
To activate the potato it must be thrown like a splash weapon. Upon landing, the potato shoots flame in a 20-ft. radius burst dealing 6d6 damage (Reflex save DC 15 for half damage). All creatures within the burst must also make a Will saving throw (DC 15) or be affected by a compulsion effect forcing the creature to attempt possession of the potato as the suggestion spell. The suggestion effect ends for any creature that is able to acquire the potato, but not others affected, and the possessing creature must make a DC 15 Fortitude saving throw or take 1 temporary Constitution damage immediately and every round that it possesses the potato. A successful Fort save by a possessing creature deactivates the potato and ends all the effects currently caused by it. Throwing the potato at any time activates it again.
Construction

This item is worse than that! this powder of Cursed Cheezies that when sprinkled on a keyboard cause the Wondrous Item designer to misconstrue and befuddle the contest rules, the design criteria and formatting outlines given to them. vote for this one because its made by me! it will go great with the writer's block stat block in book two of ForthParty Publisher's "wrighters nightmare" Adventure Path. Polar Vortex
Aura strong conjuration and evocation; CL 18th
Slot none; Price 180,000 gp; Weight 1 lb.
Description
This crystal cone is twelve inches long, four inches across at one end, one inch across at the other, and wrapped in thick, white fur. Once a day, the bearer can activate the polar vortex to summon forth a churning whirlwind of arctic air filled with polar bears. The whirlwind is 10 feet wide at its base, 100 feet high, and 40 feet wide at its top. This whirlwind is considered to have a fly speed of 100 feet with perfect maneuverability and is directed by the bearer.

If the whirlwind enters a square containing a creature, that creature takes 20d6 damage (DC 23 Reflex save for half damage; damage is half cold and half bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing). Roll 1d20 +32. If this exceeds the creature's CMD it is sucked up into the vortex. Each round spent in the vortex delivers 10d6 damage to a creature, and it is attacked by 1d4+1 polar bears. A DC 42 Escape Artist check or CMB check allows the creature to escape the vortex. Roll 1d10 x 10 to determine how high it is when it escapes. Creatures that cannot fly fall once escaping the vortex.

Each round a polar bear is launched from the vortex into a random adjacent square. Treat this as a charge attack and the bear as if it has the pounce ability. The bear remains until killed or the vortex ends. The vortex lasts for 1 round after the bearer ceases concentrating, or a maximum of 18 rounds, at which point it and any discharged bears vanish.
Construction
Requirements Craft Wondrous Item, cone of cold or ice storm, summon monster ix or summon nature's ally ix; Cost 90,000 gp

Unvorpal sword

Aura Strong Necromancy CL I actually have no clue

Slot hand price 2*vorpal sword price gp Weight 5lb.

Description
This sword was designed by the families of vorpal sword victims, crafted so as to reattach heads right back onto their bodies. If you attack a corpse beheaded by a vorpal sword, you have a minor chance to reattach a head right back onto its body if you roll a natural 20 and then confirm the critical blow. Ironically, the creators of the unvorpal blade being terrible wizards, unintentionally made the sword so that it severed a different body part most of the time, that being any time you rolled under a natural 20. This made the weapon higher in demand due to its far more lethal nature.

Etched, in Elven calligraphy, in gold on the blade by Adrian the Quadriplegic: The fact that I'm actually unable to write this should hint how much I hate you all right now
Construction Requirements:Pretty much the same as vorpal.

Special requirements: Must have lost a family member to a vorpal sword, your own blade or anyone else's will suffice. You must also have twice as many levels in Barbarian as the caster class you used to craft this item. Your strength score must also be twice as high as your intelligence score, if others are helping you, provided they meet the aforementioned pre-requisites, your combined strength score must also be at least double your combined intelligence score. Being vegetarian adds +2 to the craft check, vegan adds +5. Heck, if you like cats and it's your birthday, here's another +2 to the check.

You have a 10% chance of spontaneously creating a stinking cloud, cast as if by a 6th level sorcerer. This chance is doubled if using the body spray in place of showering. The chance stacks with the chance of every other person also using the body spray within 25 feet.

Boogie Shoes

Before I saw this, I actually came up with a similar themed item...

Meme Shoes

Aura moderate enchantment; CL 15th
Slot feet; Price Your future embarrassment; Weight 1 lb.

DESCRIPTION
These black leather shoes are nondescript, and their details are easily forgotten.

Meme shoes have a continually changing set of abilities. All save DCs begin at 25, but are reduced by 1d6-1 points annually. When an ability becomes DC 0, it no longer functions, but a new random ability is created. Currently, meme shoes have the following abilities:

Harlem Shake: once per day, the wearer can begin dancing as a full round action. While dancing, when the wearer utilizes the command words “The Harlem Shake”, all creatures within a 30 ft. radius must immediately succeed on a will save (DC25) or begin dancing as if under the effects of irresistible dance. This is an enchantment (mind control) effect that lasts as long as the wearer continues dancing, or the affected creature is no longer within the area of effect.

Opa Gundam Style: once per day, the wearer may dance as a standard action in a quirky and slightly humorous fashion. While dancing, when the wearer utilizes the command words “Hey sexy lady”, all creatures within a 100ft radius must succeed on a DC20 will save, or become fascinated. This is an enchantment (mind control) effect that ends once the wearer stops dancing, or the affected creature is no longer within the area of effect.

YMCA: Once per day, the wearer may shout “Its fun to stay at the YMCA!” as a swift action. All creatures within a 30ft. radius must succeed on a D10 will save, or drop any held items and immediately spell out the letters Y, M, C, and A with their arms. This is an enchantment (mind control) effect that only functions at wedding receptions.

Macarena: This ability no longer functions.

Electric Slide: This ability no longer functions.

Moonwalk: This ability no longer functions.

The Hustle: This ability no longer functions.

The Twist: This ability no longer functions.

CONSTRUCTION
Requirements Craft Wondrous Item, Leadership, Perform (dance) 5 ranks, that is all Cost your kids will think you are a dork

Can't... Resist....

Aura entry should be all lower case.

Slot entry should be lower case, well done for using none; which came in with 5th printing errata.

Weight should be 1 lb. 1 is singular, so lose the s.

All the spells should be lower case in the requirements line, well done for italicizing each one separately and not italicizing any intermediate commas.

They should also be ordered in alphabetical sort order...

continual light, detect magic, fabricate, goodberry, know direction, mount, neutralize poison, quench, rope trick

Yesssssss, points!

Pallid Pachyderm
Aura overwhelming enchantment; CL 20
Slot none; Price 27,000 Weight 3 lb.
Description
This small ivory statue of a mighty elephant shimmers with inlaid gemstones of various colors and finishes. The statue is so gaudy that any attempt at hiding it automatically fails.

Although the statue is small, it is easily spotted amid a room’s accouterments with a DC 10 perception check. However, if any creature mentions the presence of the elephant, all creatures who can hear and understand the speaker are immediately compelled to harm the speaker as murderous command. The speaker may attempt to dispel this effect with a DC 40 Diplomacy check. Failing this check causes all critical hits against the speaker to automatically confirm for one minute.

This effect does not end until the speaker is killed or the Diplomacy check is passed. The speaker may also choose to run for their lives, but this only delays the inevitable.

While it can be intimidating, don't let it get to you Brigg. There is a miasma of information, advice, and the past years stuff to look at --- but keep in mind, some of the people that get into the second round every year were just as new/overwhelmed/etc. as you feel right now. On the same token, while it can seem like some people make a career of this thing, analyzing and attempting to divine the "perfect" entry -- they've never made it. I don't think Anthony Adam ever shies away from that fact.

(and for the record, I've never made it to even the Top 100 to the best of my knowledge, either so I speak to you as a fellow "overwhelmed" contestant.)

When you work as a technical author in IT, it is amazing how different fantasy and game writing is - and those habit's of 30 years of technical specifications, requirements and business rules writing are incredibly tough to break.

I will make top 32 eventually, I know I can, it's just getting the right item at the right time with the right mindset public to vote on it - I'm a grand master of hitting every meme every year - wispy cloak last year, done it, filigree, yup, the year of the filigree was me, single class item - yeah, done the ranger thing too.

Heck, I gave Sean a headache one year with my item and remotely sent him home to recover (that was the year I really got a kick in the pants in feedback - and the year I started to take things much more seriously after that).

I won't say it's easy to get Top 32, it isn't - past judges have admitted they couldn't do it - *wave to Clark*

But I never stop trying...

I like the banter and the challenge and the only way I am ever likely to stop while this competition exists is when Paizo decides to put my item in the Top 32, just to shut me up on these forums and stop me using all their disc space with my volumes of posts (eeeek, nearly 2,500 now in Superstar alone) :P

I just have to be careful I don't disqualify myself by getting a hardback credit before getting that elusive tag :)

Oh, and I think I am getting close to more RPG Superstar words than Neil now - ha ha, that record is going to fall, one day.

I'm confident that you'll get that tag Anthony! :)

Of course, that would be the end of Template Fu on the RPG boards... (unless they gave us a workaround?)

Slot armor; Price126,650 gp; Weight 50 lbs.

Description
These +5 suits of Full-plate are forged such that the wearers resemble color coded lions. While forcing the wearer to move as a quadruped, the wearer can still wield weapons or manipulate objects normally with the mouth of the armor as if it were two separate hands. It further grants the wearer two primary claw attacks and a bite attack.

Leonine armour grants its wearer a move speed of 50ft overland and a 30ft fly speed, neither of which are modified by weight carried or armor worn. It also grants the wearer DR15/-.

Each separate color grants the wearer 1D6 of energy damage added to any attacks he makes. It also has a breath weapon of the same energy type that may be used once per hour.

Black: Negative Energy, 10d6, 30 ft cone.
Red: Fire, 15d6, 20 ft emanation.
Blue: Lightning, 15d6, 50ft line.
Yellow: Positive Energy, 10d6, 30 ft cone.
Green: Acid, 15d6, 20 ft cone.

The true power of leonine armour is revealed when a set of each color are in the same place and worn by individuals with good in their alignment. If the wearers are adjacent then they may each spend a one round action to combine and create a greater leonine soul armour. From when the first wearer begins his one round action to when the last wearer completes his, all wearers are under the effects of a sanctuary spell with a DC of 23.

When combined into a greater leonine soul armour the wearers are treated as a single gargantuan creature with all of the wearers subtypes. All wearers must agree on all actions that the greater leonine soul armour makes. All attacks made by the greater leonine soul armour use the best of all physical statistics and BaB selected from its wearers, as modified by its gargantuan size. The greater leonine soul armour has access to all feats and abilities possessed by its wearers. The greater leonine soul armour may use the breath weapon of any of the leonine armour's that combined to create it.

A greater leonine soul armour has a unique attack named blazing sword that is only available after it has been in its combined state for three full rounds.

Blazing sword is a special full round action that acts as a normal weapon attack as made by the greater leonine soul armour plus 20d6 fire and 20d6 positive energy damage. Any target struck by a blazing sword must make a DC23 fortitude save or disintegrated as if reduced to 0 or fewer hit points by a disintegrate spell.

467 words!

Space between Price and the number is missing.

Overwhelming makes the item an artefact rather than one of the categories of item it is supposed to be.

If I am holding a weapon in my mouth, I suspect I can't bite?

It's a fun item though, a combination of siac and miac!

And I know some players who would LOVE to play it!!
