Dubstepping cyber-raptors and weird-ass alien jungles

Iron Gods

So a few years ago I read City of Fallen Sky, just to get some ideas about Numeria so I could run a campaign... (http://paizo.com/products/btpy8rkv?Pathfinder-Tales-City-of-the-Fallen-Sky )

The one thing that bugged me though was there were no jungles in Numeria, it was all desert and mesa. I was thinking about weird ass alien jungles over growing ancient or alien civilizations (like in Thundarr!!!) and there just wasnt any. Without weird ass alien jungles, I cant have dubstepping cyber-raptors, If I cant have dubstepping cyber-raptors, I dont want the supplement.

Please designers, put some weird ass alien jungles in there so I can have dubstepping cyber-raptors.

You could always just play Rifts: South America.

Seriously, there were robot dinosaurs yet it still wasn't the stupidest Rifts thing because a few books later they did Rifts: Underseas where there were dolphins and killer whales in power armor. For serious.

Robot Dinosaurs are never stupid.

Liberty's Edge

Not even when implemented by the mind-numbing Palladium rules set?

I call shenanigans, sir.

Phi-warpers are easily the best thing Palladium ever did. Who doesn't love tortured dolphins bio-engineered into uber-psychic almost limbless blobs in floating 500 SDC power armor. I know I do. And not a bit silly. Cry shenanigans after what's left of your brain drips its last all over the floor, shaded by powered hover armor as it flies over you.
Not. A. Bit. Silly.

They hadn't MegaDamage power armor?

Don't forget, you can always change the setting to suit your campaign. Maybe in your version of Numeria, some sort of fast-growing alien seeds escaped from something and grow into a "weird ass alien jungle" overnight. Could even be the basis of an adventure, to find out where they came from and make sure it doesn't overgrow the whole country/continent/planet... 8^)

Yeah, you could even base it off the Chtorran Mandala jungles from David Gerrold's (sadly probably never to be completed) "War Against the Chtorr".

The books aren't all THAT great (the characters are really annoying and spend way too much time on repetitive interpersonal conflicts) but the alien ecosystem is really cool.

The "worms"/gastropedes -- enormous (from maybe tiger size to orca size) centipede things that can run at cheetah-like speeds and eat anything Earthly. Take a bulette, give it a speed of 120 ft.... that should about cover it. Though it doesn't really get across the insane toughness of the original things... they should probably have DR 10/adamantine or something.

Not in Mechanoids. This was the early-mid 80's. Mega-damage wasn't a thing yet...

I think I prefer sun-soaring whale-morphs in Eclipse Phase. Or uplifted whales of Blue Planet.

Sure.

Or former-missile-probability-warped-into-whale-falling-into-early-Earth from Hitch-hiker's Guide to the Galaxy...

Poor chap.

Dolphins in power armor isn't uncommon. It shows up in the Uplift Saga and Traveler off the top of my head. They don't have thumbs or fingers so they pretty much need prosthetics to interact with technology. Might as well strap some armor and a grav drive on to the prosthesis rig. Pretty much anything you uplift is going to end up in power armor at some point - gorillas, dogs, octopi, whales.

Eitherway, you could bung in a couple of jungles at the bottoms of some giant canyons. Just pick a big canyon system and declare "Here be Jungles". One moment you're crossing trackless arid badlands and then the ground falls away before you and you're looking at a lush purple jungle winding through a river-cut canyon.

I completely forgot there were communities of uplifted dolphins appearing on some planets at the the edge between Vilani and Solomani areas of influence in Traveller.

Liberty's Edge

I never really played Traveler, but I'm willing to bet the concept was better implemented than in Rifts. lol
