Pinpoint targetting feat

Rules Questions

Benefit: As a standard action, make a single ranged attack. The target does not gain any armor, natural armor, or shield bonuses to its Armor Class. You do not gain the benefit of this feat if you move this round.

By standard action, does it mean the attack action? In other words can this stack with vital strike?

Vital strike has been the source of many posts on the rules forum.

Since most interpret the description of Vital Strike so that it is a standard action, it can't be combined with this feat as you would need 2 standard actions in a given round.

Depending on your GM however he or she might allow it. I don't think it would be overly powerful.

Pinpoint Targeting defines its own standard action, not the attack action. Such actions cannot be used with Vital Strike any more than, say, casting prestidigitation.

What blahpers said.

But an attack is by default a standard action?

Not quite. The attack action is a standard action that allows a single attack. The attack action is probably the most common type of standard action that makes a single attack, but it is not the only one (this feat being a case in point).

I don't think it would be game breaking to allow Pinpoint Targeting & Vital Strike to stack.

The wording of Vital Strike, it could be argued, supports such a combo, but I guess the FAQ kibosh's it???
I'm not even sure if that was the intent of the FAQ or if the FAQ was only trying to prevent combining it with full round actions.

If it's for a home game, You could discuss it with the GM. I find archery builds generally have enough feats to try and cram in that Vital Strike becomes a moot point anyhow.
