Ice Queen Build

Advice

I am looking to build a 15 point buy Ice based caster arcane character, think Ice Queen from adventure time or Jadis from Narnia.

Backstory in short: From an old noble merchant family. 7th in line for control of the house until last year, after her graduation from her (School/coven/XXX) all those siblings, expect one, went missing or lost their lives. With only her eldest brother in her way, dark whispers are abound of when he too will “be removed from the picture” and she sits on her families trading throne.

A practitioner of the winter arts and with a personality as cold as her magic, she navigates the webs of business and nobility with the grace and ferocity of winter itself. She has a knack for taking meager purchase and turning them into enormous profits.

In truth she has done nothing, owing her rise in succession to two older siblings who did away with most of her siblings until they were quietly put down by her eldest brother. Who doesn’t see his youngest sister as a threat now, but still remains wary.

Her merchant success due to smart investments and dumb luck. Her cold exterior is but a mask to hide her utter terror being thrown into the cut throat pits of politics, business, and nobility. She longs for times long past when all she had to worry about, was who she might marry.

I don’t know where to go with a Witch (winter witch archetype), Boreal Sorceress, or an Admixture Wizard. Any advice?

i love the winter witch archtype, going into winter witch prestige class, but that is just me.

first feat should be irresen ice mage.... as its +1 caster level on spells with cold descriptor.

winter witch with a dip in (rimeblood and/or white draconic) sorcerer (crossblooded or EH optional) maybe? sling that ice with surprising effectiveness.

if you can get your DM to rule that crossblooded works with wildblooded. Primal/Rime-Blooded is an excellent dip. You wind up losing a bit on your hexes unfortunately, but if your main focus is cold casting and less on hexes. It would be well worth it.

another +1 for winter witch archetype into winter witch prestige class.

if you're going to take a class dip consider a winter oracle- you don't get the damage bonus (or will save penalty, if crossblooded) of a sorc dip, but the freezing spells revelation is pretty awesome.

Wizard dipping crossblooded sorc with rime spell. Just better than witch:P

if you go for EH feats it doesnt slow you, since youre not dipping. costs feats though.

it depends on what you're trying to do... the witch (after 10th) can use ice tomb on literally every creature it encounters (unlike spells which you can run out of), and it always has nearly the same DC as your highest level spells (and can benefit from ability focus) and completely removes the enemy from combat if they fail the save. the bonus damage from a sorc dip is nice (but not nearly as effective as removing an enemy with a single standard action), and rime spell is handy but it raises the level of the spell (further stretching your limited resources). it is a fun and functional build, but i don't think you can fairly say it is just hands down better...

What level do you need her to be? If it's high level, you may want to check our Helegûr. Alternatively, check out her mythic variant. You may have to reduce her ability scores (currently 25-point buy) and hit points (above the typical NPC average), but I don't expect that to greatly reduce her overall power level.

You can find her and dozens more characters in my Crazy Character Gallery.

May they serve to inspire your evil GM schemes.

Level 1 for a steampunk turn of the century setting.

After looking at Ravingdorks many builds, I think I will be trying a Hexcrafter Magus "Ice Queen" build. Trying to marry the Ice hexs of a witch with the elegance of a sword. Would that work or is it just wishful thinking?

Wait? You're not an evil GM? Crap. I've just empowered another player...
