Early Entry and SLA

Rules Questions

The semi-new (I just found out about it a month ago anyway) ruling that SLA's count as prerequisites rules, is actually one I think is pretty good. All the classes that it allows early entry into, besides possibly the bloatmage, now have other classes that do what they do better or they were suboptimal to begin with, so it makes them viable again as choices. It also adds some interesting entry paths into current PRC's, maybe not early, but allows you in with less casting focus, or a class like the arcane trickster, which you can now make a divine trickster. I like all of those options and haven't seen anything game breaking there.

What I would like to see though would be an expansion on core races SLA's. right now there are multiple ways for Tieflings and Aasimar to take advantage of these, but sadly little in the way of core races, with elves and gnomes having a few. Half-elves too, but I play a lot of PFS and Drow Magic is banned in PFS. So now, really cool concepts that I've dreamt about playing (My Mystic Theurge, which I never would have dreamed of attempting before) corner me into being an Aasimar or a Tiefling. I would like to see other races able to take advantage of this new ruling.

What do you all think?

I think that this is in the wrong forum. : )

Apart from that, yes, 90% of the interesting early entry builds are the same couple of races. Aasimar, a supposedly rare species, are so common already that I reflexively roll my eyes when I see the word in someone's writeup. It's be nice for a dwarf to get some early entry goodness.

Edit: why is Drow Magic banned in PFS? Drizz't hate?

Golarion lore, where all Drow are evil, and no evil allowed for PCs in PFS means that anything Drow is illegal for PCs.

Use whatever race you like. Cleric1/Wizard3/MT

How?

Trickery Domain. The Copycat SLA counts as 2nd level spell Mirror Image, and a divine version of it too.

You could do it a level earlier... Cleric1/Wizard2/MT... by going Tiefling or Aasimar, of course. But 1/3 ain't a bad start. You'd have the same progression into your arcane spell level access as a Sorcerer would have.

Right, but there are other combos too. Like Eldritch Knight for instance. Your two choices now are Aasmir or Wizard (Scryer). I want to play a dwarf monk/empyreal sorcerer/EK!!

But seriously, there is already an abundant number of the "outsider" races in PFS. I'd like to see some things that encourage players not to have to play those races. I see more outsiders now than I do humans, and the other core races are slim pickins. I am somewhat responsible for this too, as I have Tiefling and Aasmir characters, but I have more core races characters (I have 9 PFS characters that are active currently).

Yeah I mostly play Tieflings and Aasimar (love Scion of Humanity alternate racial) too. The stat adjustments are so versatile, dark vision, minor energy resistances, and some pretty awesome racial feats on both sides. I only really go Human if I'm starting low level and don't want to wait 5 levels for my feat tree to become functional.

As far as early entry, If it were my game I'd probably just waive the needed SLA and say "Well if an Aasimar can get in at this level any race can." Unfortunately that doesn't help at all with organized play.

Prestige classes are just too restrictive as is. A revamp of their requirements would be nice, but probably never going to happen.

I have a gnome sorcerer who took a level in oracle of the heavens to focus on color spray. I've been toying with the idea of going MT but haven't found a way to meet all prereqs with my race and class choices. Any thoughts?

Well, if you buy your GM a pizza and some beer, and then ask him real nice if you can switch your racial traits around to take Pyromaniac you have level 2 divine spell. Take sorcerer to 4 and then you'd qualify.

PFS sadly.

Ah well. Maybe I'll wait for the ultimate class guide to get printed and retrain him to whatever Arcanist archetype uses Cha as a primary casting stat. There's always hope...

Well, you could use the new retraining rules, though its pricey at 20 PA. They can be found here:

http://www.d20pfsrd.com/basics-ability-scores/more-character-options/retrai ning

They are legal now for PFS, each day of training =1 PA
