I've mentioned this in several threads but I want to create one to fascilitate it.
Bascially what I propose is 2-3 people interested in playtesting the new classes get together during an hour or two they have where they can divert a portion of their attention to posting, to run one or more of the advanced class guide playtest classes through a simple (or complex) play by plost set of encounters. No need for detailed dialogue, or going through a whole adventure, the purpose of this is to have actual play experience of the mechanics of the class working with other people. The example is what rogue eidolon and I did here. It took us about an hour per encounter (results may vary ofcourse).
So post here if you are interested and with approximate times (with timezone) and use the worldclock to sort out other people's posts where necessary.
The objective here is to get people who might not have time or opportunity to playtest with their homegames a crack at actually using these classes and rolling some actual (if digital) dice.

i'm also US EST (GMT -5). i can often spare an hour during the day (most likely between 10am and 4pm), or at night (usually like 10pm-1am). i would being willing to play anything.
i did do one short playtest- we made a fighter, a monk, and brawler to see how they compare side by side. it was pretty interesting... i'd be willing to do something like that again, or even play in two separate (simultaneous?) encounters where one is new classes and the other is basically the same party built from base classes, just to see how they compare.

This sounds interesting to me.
Last Sunday we didn't have a game at all, and this Sunday my group's schedule was decimated, so I figured without a regular game we could run a playtest... but the group has responded with nothing but negativity. (So far anyway.)
I'd like to test the brawler. I'm available between 11 AM and 3 PM (that is to say, I can start at those times) US EST (GMT -5).
I haven't played an online game like this in years, so I don't know how dice rollers and so forth work. I usually build a character sheet by hand, but presumably I should use Hero Builder for this. (Has it been updated for the new classes?)

I can try to do this. I'm not sure how play by post works but this would be a chance to find out.
Well let's see...
This is the playtest I'm running currently which is about as informal as it gets.
That should give a rough idea on what this is like.

I would be interested as well. As several others, I'm in the eastern timezone, though I am at school right now... What levels are being played? When? I cant today (other game tonight) but another night yes.
I'd say I'm available after 5pm (eastern time) on wednesday & thursday night. I've got prepared builds for brawler, swashbuckler, bloodrager & investigator. (though I would need a bit of time to adjust the level)

So who is DMing?
It doesnt necessarily have to have a 'DM' in the traditional sense. Just someone to control various elements of the encounter so that different minds operating together to create an encounter.
Someone can both control the monsters/enemies AND run a playtest class character along side one or more others.
It seems the eastern US timezone is fairly well loaded:

dieo in pacific and umbriere in mountain might have an easier time working together.
So look here, see who might be active the same time as you and pm them 'hey are you free at [insert time here] for a 3rd level playtest'. This is sort of a scattershot technique rather then a formal scheduled thing. The idea is to make use of the time we spend here on the boards normally but putting it to playtest use. There are quite a few active posters. Many who, for whatever reasons arent able to playtest in the 'normal' ways.
My hope is this gives not only everyone more opportunity to playtest, but if we can harness even a portion of the time and energy that goes into the boards each day it will give the devs a much bigger sample size. And even better, one where they can actually go and LOOK at the encounters and builds and such if they are wondering about them.
williamoak |
Well, I've got a number of 20pt builds at various levels master_marshmallow. I just need to know a level and I'll rais/lower the builds I've got. I can even put it up on myth-weavers if people are interested. I've got time tonight, would be available from about 5pm eastern time (north america of course).

williamoakWhen are we planning this?
I presume we are making lvl 1 characters with 15 pt. buy? Or do we wanna do 20 pt? 25?We should also figure out what everyone is playing.
I want to play around with a warpriest myself and see what can/needs to be done for them.
As for elvel we should do it at higher levels. There are lots of level 1 playtests and honestly they don't mean much. Might be better at the 8-12 range.
EDIT: And I like 20pt. buy myself. It's nice and even and doesn't make me want to dump stat so hard.

Well, I've got 4 character sheets set up, with full stats, feats, & items according to WBL (with about 10-5000 gp on each for potential consumables) if people would rather not build their own. I'll put them up after I finish work, I've got an abberant bloodrager, a sassy swashbuckler, muscleman mitch (the brawler) & a K-O artist (investigator).

Oddly enough for the comments I've made in other threads I'm interested in getting in on this. Likely even be interested in running a couple sessions. I'd like to try out some conversions of Hollow's Last Hope I'm working on, and would love to test the encounters' combat worthiness.
I'm in Wyoming, so I think Mt time, though my schedule gets weird in that a lot of the time my "open time" would be late to crazy late.

What I'm thinking for the aspect I can run...
level 5, any class is fine (I get it's a playtest of the new classes, but basically every classed NPC in the adventure is going to be converted over to a new class, and I think data would benefit from now these classes perform along side existing classes...but if it winds up all playtest classes, that's fine too)
core races would be preferable but most of the stuff from the race book, outside the create-a-race section is fine. mostly what I'm concerned about here is being blind sided by some racial ability I'm not familiar with, but I've got the book, and if someone likes something I'm not familiar with it'll give me a reason to read up on something new.
by and large anything that's done by Paizo and on the SRD is fine. If there's something Paizo has published that isn't on the SRD talk to me and chances are it'll be fine, just so long as it was written for Pathfinder.
I know the talk on the topic is level 12-13, but I'm not comfortable enough with the game as a whole to try and run those levels, but I absolutely agree a playtest of level 1 is pointless. Five I think is a good balance between having some of your class abilities and me being able to scale the adventure.
As I mentioned above, the adventure would be Hollow's Last Hope. Existing knowledge of the game is fine...the point of this being a test of the classes and not a true game ...feel free to metagame as much as you like.
My schedule is sketchy at the best of times, so often the best block I would have to spend a few hours on the boards would be late evening though I regularly have spurts throughout the day I can hop on check things out and move a game forward.
Between turkey day and some other stuff I'd be able to start running the game saturday if people are interested, with the preference being to do a post every couple hours as opposed to trying to set aside a big block of time that day, but if people want to do the big block I can work something out. Hopefully that makes sense...
Hard limit of 8 people, as there are theoretically 8 players in my home game, whom I'm modding the adventure for.

Actually If you can toss me the brawler I'll do it. Don't honestly feel like building more characters. I may alter it a touch to taste.
Umbriere Moonwhisper |
i'll play a Sylph Arcanist of the Air Elemental School and the Fey Bloodline
i was considering going for an Aladdin type feel with a Street Urchin and Slum Magician
but if someone wants to play an arcanist
i'll make her an investigator instead
doesn't mean she will be from a desert nation or anything
my schedule is more open during the afternoon and after dinner.

Loving the new arcanist.
I like the idea of having a level 5 version and a level 13 version, especially if whoever runs the level 13 part has room for me ;) I'm curious about the hunter.
I can check back friday late and see who all has level 5s up and ready to go for those who are interested in the Falcon's Hollow game...as well as have a hunter of some sort or another ready by then if someone wants to pick up the higher level end.

Here's the link to "muscleman mitch".
While the guy isnt proficient with shields, a mithral shield offered no penalty, so I gave him one since his ac was a bit low

Well looks like I'm the far out one here.
But thinking about it, we don't have to playtest in real time.I could take some people and run them through short sequences of published adventures. To keep things informal I would shorten the RPing in the adventure down and keep the focus on the skill challenges and combats in the AP's and simply run snippets of them.
I think levels 4, 7, 10, 13 might be interesting.But I'm not set on these levels.
Anyone interested? I think with a couple of posts a day from all participants we could go through a couple of encounters fast.

Like I said I'll alter it a bit to fit what I need. Mainly I wanted to get 13 int so I can put combat expertise on him. In this way I can use martial maneuvers to grab lots and lots of different feats.
But thank you for posting. 20pt. buy this guy was made with?

We're solidifying, that's good. I have a level 3 brawler ready to go, so now I'll make ones for levels 4, 7, 10 and 13. What time of day (EST) is good for you?

Well hard to nail me down at the moment but I thought if everyone can check back a few times through the day we should be able to make due without fixed times.
I have been in Play by Posts before and this approach works as far as I can say.I opened a Campaign thread, everyone who wants to participate can post in the discussion thread here.
I will sort through my AP's and prepare some stuff. Once we have 3 or 4 people of a level we can start.
I think I can run multiple groups this way.
