Ah; yeah; I meant the more powerful version of Dagon that appeared in Dragon. I designed both that one and the less powerful one in the Fiendish Codex; my preference is for the one in Dragon

I just mentioned Fiendish Codex because it was easier to remember off the top of my head rather than what issue number he appeared in Dragon. If I ever did try to convince my group to have a Dagon throwdown I'd pick which ever version was closest in CR/HD to the other versions of Dagon.

I think its a shame the creature is called Vouivre in Pathfinder, rather have them call it Campe, suits them more.

But maybe Campe is a legendary/unique Vouivre in Pathfinder.

Late to the party here, but I'm glad folks are digging B4 so much! It's not a big secret to most folks here that I start the lists for our bestiaries from the huge collection of links and notes I'm constantly putting together on cool monsters from myth, folklore, urban legends, film, literature, video games, comics, wherever. I'm a big fan of monsters with a pedigree.

While a bunch of these are pick-ups from other Pathfinder products featuring cool and creatively unique inhabitants of Golarion (brethedan, gallowdead, incutilis), and others are evolutions of existing trains of thought (dark whatevers, soulbounds), I'll give away 10 more of my sources for the guys on Gancanagh's awesome lists.

Clockwork Steed: The idea is basic, but is in here because of Vampire Hunter D's awesome cyborg horse.

Dorvae: My original list had these guys as Dirae, the Roman furies. A combination of bizzare but cool art and a pagination issue meant that they got renamed and moved. Sometimes that happens (sometimes both things happen), and a new monster gets invented. Necessity truly is the mother of invention.

Geist: This is just a poltergeist with the "polter" taken off. So "ghost" or "spirit" and German. Our translators in Deutschland are going to LOVE us for this.

Guardian Dragon: Inspired by Ladon, who guards golden apples, and the dragon protector of the golden fleece.

Kytons: Barker, Hellraiser, Tortured Souls couldn't be more apparent in these guys. You'll also note the kytons I write are always named after ecclesiastical positions.

Living Wall: Final Fantasy.

Rukh: Variant spelling of Roc with a Ray Harryhausen spin.

Saguaroi: Cactus people with a name that comes from the saguaro cactus.

Skinsitch: Inspired by the Deadly Toys from Castlevania: Lord of Shadows and Leatherface... together... at the same time.

Yamaraj: From the Hindu yamaraja.

There's a few more on there, but for now I'll let you guys work them out. ;)

So for D20 material there are at least 4 versions of Dagon at this point? ... Are there any more? :P

Green Ronin has used Dagon at least twice, although neither version is a demon lord.

The Book of Fiends includes a statblock for Dagon as a powerful unique devil and favored servant of the Archdevil Leviathan in that book's cosmology.

Testament: Roleplaying in the Biblical Era includes Dagon in his real-world role as a deity. While not given stats as a creature, this does give him an alignment, domains, favored weapon, etc. so that priests of him are playable.

Ah, okay! I was wondering if these had any mythological origins, but couldn't find anything. Still, I quite like the creature. Appearing as it does alongside the nemesis devil and the immortal ichor, I was curious if there was a conscious "theme" of having monsters that seek out mortal worshipers in this bestiary? Even the flavor text for the magma drake mentions it being worshiped, which I found odd. Probably a coincidence, but it never hurts to ask.

Total coincidence.

Thanks for answering those questions!

I have a few questions about this tho.

Is the Eremite Kyton based on Jeepers Creepers? Because of its ability to collect perfect parts of other creatures and add it to itself, but Jeepers Creepers ate the parts he wanted, don't know about Eremite, but it would be a very cool connection, especially since normal kytons (with the chains) already are much like hellraiser himself.

Where was the inspiration taken from in the Soulsliver?

And about the Galvo, what does it name means or was it randomly taken? Was it based on something from movies, myth or D&D? (I know there was this early D&D creature (2nd edition if i'm not wrong) that also was composed of sea creatures/eels and fish, it was in an elemental book about the planes if i'm not wrong, could it be based on that creature?

Galvo probably is derived from the same root word as Galvanize, which means to shock with an electric current

The creature I was after is called Ungulosin, its from D&D 2nd edition.
