Lets have a seat at the table near the Gnome.

"Hey Mez, want to spend some more time here as a familiar? Maybe the gnome will take you on... then you can have his soul."

"Yeah I know, Gnome souls are smaller... and dont count as much spiritual currency. Guess we will have to see what he knows about soul trapping magics. If he is a bard and knows the lands, he may know something."

Goblin Squad Member

"Ha Ha!, the gnome cries as the improvised duet comes to its dramatic finish. He then bows slightly to Jordon, removes his indigo sock hat and in the same motion extends it towards the nearest patron.

"Coppers are proper but givers give silver", he says to Steelwing, shaking his hat and grinning pointy teeth.

Goblin Squad Member

Mez thinks to Xeen, Can ya spot me a couple coins to lure the little bugger over here?

Goblin Squad Member

Jordan grins widely at the gnome at the close of their furious duet, wiping his hand across his forehead to swipe away the building sweat there. Jordon snaps his fingers loudly, and his makeup and clothes right themselves, as if he just woke up (disguise self via hat of disguise). He brushes the hair from his face, gives a smile and wave to the gnome, and then looks about the tavern at the gathered people, taking in whatever applause is being offered.

Goblin Squad Member

Hands Mez two gold

Goblin Squad Member

Bat-Mez blinks at Xeen from atop the man's shoulder. I'm a bat. What am I gonna do with them? Wave the things around and get his attention.

Steelwing regards the gnome for a while as he stands beside him with the hat held out. Just as the his scrutiny is about to become uncomfortable to the gnome a small smile twists his lips and he stands, the slight scraping of steel sliding against steel accompanying the motion. Digging in his pouch he takes out two silver coins and expertly flips them into the gnomish hat. He then sits back down and turns back to his plate of food

Goblin Squad Member

The gnome regards Steelwing nervously, flinching at the sudden movement and then grinning widely at the tossed coins. Surveying the warrior's demeanor he says, "The devil loves a good song, yes?".

With a wink and a thumbs up to Jordon he moves to the next tavern dweller, Xeen. "Coppers are proper but givers give silver". Noticing the trappings of a spellcaster and what appears to be a bat familiar, he says, "patronage for the magical arts, sir?" and jingles the sock hat.

Goblin Squad Member

Bat-Mex digs his talons a little deeper into Xeen's shoulder.

Wake up. Here's our chance.

Goblin Squad Member

Then dont ask me to spot you a couple coin Mez LOL

"Here are a couple gold, but I need to speak with you for a bit once your done with your coin gathering. I need some information."

Goblin Squad Member

The gnome winks to Xeen and continues his rounds. When he is finished he carefully counts the coins and gives half to Jordon. He then slips outside and awaits his business.

Goblin Squad Member

Xeen, with Mez on shoulder, follows the Gnome outside to conduct business.

Goblin Squad Member

Jordon, accepting the gnome's split and patting him on the shoulder before he walks away, moves back to the bar, ordering another drink. This time he seems much less depressive, chatting a little with a nondescript logger also there. Once or twice Jordan glances to Steelwing, but he says nothing to him.

Goblin Squad Member

A cloaked figure enters the tavern, heads to a empty table in a dim-lit corner. He calls the tavern wench over and orders a cold drink and hot meal. While waiting for his meal, he pulls out a small piece of parchment and gives it a quick read.

Goblin Squad Member

So then, how may I serve thee distinguished gentleman?

He has the accent of a pirate. Or a philosopher. A philosopher-pirate until we hear more of it.

Goblin Squad Member

Bat-Mez thinks to Xeen, Ask him if he knows anything about magic items and soul trapping and that sort of stuff...or if there's a jeweler in town who'd know about it...like yer interested in the subject...like maybe for a friend...but don't be too specific...and don't mention me..."

Pauses for half a second, then digs his claws a bit deeper into Xeen's shoulder.

What ya waitin' for?

Goblin Squad Member

Im waiting for you to get your claws out of my shoulder!

I am in search of a focused magic that has been difficult to come across. Someone who is a jewel smith and works in soul magic. Either or both could help. I have a companion that made a mistake in life and I need to find a way to save him. In your journeys through civilization, have you come across any information that may help?

Goblin Squad Member

ah. And if I could be so bold to ask, are we putting a soul into a jewel or are we taking one out?

The pirate accent starts to show cracks and is clearly fake.

Goblin Squad Member

LOL, nice

We are looking to take one out, he trapped himself somehow.

heh, some truth in the lie helps it be believable.

Goblin Squad Member

Tisk, tisk. I suppose his mother never told him not to play with soul trapping jewels.

He wiggles an absurdly crooked finger and winks.

I can assure you that I have met such persons and have even done this most intricate of processes myself! I am The Horrrormazing Krumpusrumpus Shadowglamyre! Wizard, Enchanter, Bard, Pirate (cue stupid accent) , Adventurer..., bats his eyebrows, ...and llllover.

With a long sweep of his ridiculous sock hat he bows so low, his huge potato of a nose touches the ground.

/fart

Goblin Squad Member

Wow, thats an amazing name, and an amazing list of professions. You have your soul trapped in a jewel?

LOL, I am the everlasting know it all.

Goblin Squad Member

Horrormazing name..., he corrects. Nay, my soul is most certainly not trapped in a jewel, though it may have been sold more times than a false hope. However, I may be able to help your unfortunate friend, for a small price, of course.

Goblin Squad Member

Thinks to Xeen, Personally, I think this guy's had a few too many snorts of somethin', but let's see where it goes.

Goblin Squad Member

Mez.. You are right about that, if he cant deliver then we can just rob him

What is your price? I would like to get him freed as soon as we can.

Goblin Squad Member

An older man, perhaps late sixties, with wisps of white hair poorly covering a balding head and a day-old growth of white stubble beard walks out from the kitchen. He is dressed in plain clothes, like the other staff. His sleeves are rolled up to elbows, above skin wrinkled as much from dishwater as the passing of years. A stained full apron covers him from chest to mid-thigh.

Scanning the patrons, his eyes lingering over those with dishes, he moves towards Steelwing.

"Finished with that, sir?" he asks, nodding towards your plate.

Steelwing looks down at his plate briefly then nods pushing the plate and the remnants of his meal towards the man. As the man approaches he places a silver coin on the bar and leans forward beckoning the older man to come closer.

"I wish you to see if you can locate a map of these lands for me. If you succeed there will be a gold in it for you and I will pay a reasonable price for the map"

He pushes the silver coin towards the older man picking up his mead and takes a sip.

Goblin Squad Member

The old fellow waves off the silver.

"Mighty generous of you, sir, but if you're looking for maps, old Bellum does some cartography and his shop's just down the road. Ain't worth taking your coin when all you need is a point in the right direction."

He takes up your plate, eyeing you more closely.

"Don't mean to be forward, sir, but you look passingly familiar. Been around these parts before?"

Goblin Squad Member

Whilst others are going about their business, Jordon plays a quiet, bouncy, ambient song on his accordion, closing his eyes and gently swaying with the beat.

...and somewhere else, an Enchanter is telling a Hellknight "these are not the druids you're looking for".

Goblin Squad Member

Well of course that would depend...valuation of material components, time to prepare the incantations, we would need to find a proper place for the ritual. A greedy twinkle enters his eye, Sometimes these things can run quite a tab, a wizard might age a full year by casting powerful soul magic, and that isn't cheap, even for a gnome....Of course if you showed me the gem...

Pushes the silver back towards the old man

"Then take the silver and offer it to one of your kitchen boys to run down and fetch me a map from this Bellum if you would be so kind."

Steelwings smiles a little

"As to looking familiar I can't say we have never met but this is the first time for me in these parts, I doubt you know me though I am merely a simple soldier"

Goblin Squad Member

"I can think of one such a lad who'd step a quicker pace if this was waitin' on his return," the old server says, holding your silver piece up to emphasize his point. "I'll set him about the chore right away."

He gestures at your mug. "Top off your drink before I go?"

Steelwing places a hand over the top of his flagon shaking his head "No thank you friend I prefer to keep a clear head in..." he pauses a moment as if searching for a suitable word "strange lands" steelwing says after the pause." If you are off work soon though maybe you would join me for a tankard are two. You could tell me about some of the names on the map you are procuring for me"

Goblin Squad Member

"Certainly could." He smiles, nods in parting, and carries the remains of your meal back to the kitchen.

Goblin Squad Member

Xeen eyes the Gnome waiting for a thought from Mez.

Its your gem and soul Mez, Want to show him?

Goblin Squad Member

Thinks to Xeen, "The ring is still on the chain around my neck. Give him a look-see, but no touchy touchy."

Goblin Squad Member

Got it.

Xeen reaches up and pulls the chain from around bat mez's neck. He holds it up above the gnome so he can look at it.

Goblin Squad Member

Mentally yells, "Look-see...NO TOUCHY TOUCHY!!!"

Steelwing clears a space on the bar and then taking a sip of his mead starts producing a journal and writing implements from the pouch as his side. He opens the journal at a fresh page then pausing briefly to think he starts scribing

The Gnome licks his lips greedily, the reflection of the gem engulfing his wide, mad eyes. His crooked and calloused fingers slowly reach upwards, making grabbing gestures as they rise. He seems entranced.

Beautiful...

Goblin Squad Member

Xeen pulls the gem away

"The soul has to be removed, after that you can have it as payment. If it is not destroyed."

Goblin Squad Member

Hisses and mumbles gibberish. *snaps fingers 4 or 5 times in quick succession* and gives the warrior a keen glare.

Just how good a friend are we talking about, my friend? A trapped soul like that could fetch a lovely price. Such a bauble would find some influential admirers in the Black Markets of Cheliax.

Goblin Squad Member

This soul has to high of a value for the Black Market.

Goblin Squad Member

Thinks to Xeen, You're gonna draw back a stump, little man...

Goblin Squad Member

He wont touch it till he agrees to do the job... Then he will be watched at all times.

Goblin Squad Member

A sale like that could change a man's fate, you know...halfling slaves...the finest pesh...hundreds are eaten by dragons every year searching for such a treasure...

Goblin Squad Member

The music hiccups as the gnome says the word "pesh". Jordon quickly gets it back on beat, pretending like he didn't just screw up.

It is not for sale.

Goblin Squad Member

Purella Nexion, the proprietor of the Golden Eye General Store across the road from the Talking Head, and clearly a cleric of Desna, comes in and goes up to Ara at the bar. After a quick glance at the patrons scattered around the tavern she leans into Ara and quietly says, "I am concerned about the party that left here yesterday morning. I don't like what they are carrying. It makes me uneasy. If you know of a divine caster with a persuasion to do me a favor, or if one comes by in the next couple of days, I want to commission them to keep an eye on that party. I'm sure that they can catch them on the road, either before they get to Darkreach at the crossroads to Fort Inevitable, or at Darkreach itself. I suspect that they will rest there at least a day. I don't want to think about what could happen if that thing got away from them. I want it out of this area, and for it to stay out. Have them come see me at the Golden Eye."

Nodding her agreement Ara pats Purella on the shoulder and says softly, "It will be alright. This place has weathered a lot, and will still be here no matter what. Lem and I will keep an eye out for 'ya."

Goblin Squad Member

Xeen stabs the Gnome in the face with a dagger, strips his cold dead corpse of anything valuable, and heads back into the bar.
