Does anyone have experience with converting the epubs to mobi?

How well does the calibre conversion work? On a related note, is there any reason that they aren't available in mobi as well as epub to begin with?

The Calibre conversion works on a level I would describe as 'adequate'.

I haven't done it with any of the pathfinder books, but I had tred a few others a few years back.

It worked okay, but some times the various symbols ' in particular would not translate and you would get things like "Joe$%*(#)s" rather than "Joe's".

What may be a better option is to look for a free app that will read both file types, if that's a possibility.

Ross's comment is closer to current reality than Devil's Advocate's. If you've got a clean source (and the Pathfinder ePubs qualify as clean), then Calibre conversion works just fine for personal use. The old problems Devil's Advocate mentions are just that. Old.

That said, however, Devil's Advocate's second bit of advice is accurate. If you are on a tablet that has apps that can read both file types, then it's always better to read in the original format if you can.

I want to read them on my Kindle. Since I bought my first one a few years ago that's the only way that I've read novels, barring re-reading books that I already owned. While I can accept that Paizo doesn't want to deal with Amazon (although I suspect that they're losing money in the process), I'd like to know that the files I get should I buy their novels will render properly on it. I'll wait to read them until such time as they create mobi versions of the books I guess.

I've read all my Pathfinder novels on my kindle by converting it to Calibre. I reread a few of them on pdf (on work computer). Haven't had any issues except for Calibre messing up Master of Devils cover page.

Kindles should also be able to display PDFs, which are available for all of the novels (but not the webfiction).

But give Calibre a try: it's free and it will probably be good enough.

Also, if you want to test it out without investing the full cost of one of the novels, pick up one of the Web Fiction ePubs. They are only $0.99, so if you find the conversion unreadable, you haven't lost a LOT of money.

I use Calibre on every epub I get. Never had any problems. Works like a charm for me.

Is your kindle web enabled? If so, booki.sh is a cloud based ebook reader. Upload your books to it and you can read them from any web enabled device. Handy if you read books on multiple devices.

Doesn't work with mobi, but since you have the epubs..

I've never had any problems converting using Calibre, but maybe it works somewhat differently in for conversions in OS X.

If you want to send me your files and have me try to convert them more to your liking, please let me know!
