Alchemist's Kit / Alchemy Crafting Kit Weight Discrepancy --- Errata / FAQ?

I'm curious about this item, which was reworked in Ultimate Equipment from its original version in the Advanced Players Guide.

In the APG the Alchemist Kit was required to create bombs and such, costs 25gp, and weighed 5lbs Source

In Ultimate Equipment the Alchemy Crafting Kit is mentioned as being the new name for the Alchemist Kit, costs 25gp, and weighs 50lbs. Source

I'm curious as to which is the intended weight, and which is in error. My assumption is that the 5lb weight is correct, since 50lbs basically means an alchemist has to return to civilization to prepare extracts / bombs (or travel by wagon or with pack animals), but I'd love an official or semi-official answer. I know this came up on the Ultimate Equipment Errata thread, but I found no real answer there on this (rather than general discussion about small weight discrepancies on kits in general) there and nothing in the FAQ. Since this is an item that an alchemist pretty much has to have, I consider it a slightly larger deal than the few pounds of wiggle room in kits.

not having copies of both. Let me ask
Are you sure they are the same item? I thought there was an alchemist (class ) kit (item for the class stuff--though i didn't think you had to have it to use infusions bombs etc) and a alchemist crafting stuff item (dunno name) that gave a bonus to alchemist skill checks?

Whether or not you have the books or not, I included links in my post to the PRD where you can see for yourself.

Always looked like a typo with the 0 to me, the kit shouldn't be heavier than a whole lab setup 50lbs vs 40lbs.

Not official obviously, but just use your best judgement till the next round of reprints. I feel like having the item cite the APG entry as a source and implying that the only change was the name is enough evidence to support your assumption as being the most logical one.

It wouldn't surprise me if the 5/50 is a typo, we had some problems with the new item layout format in Ultimate Equipment. I don't recall anyone on the design team talking about changing that weight.

Thanks for the quick reply SKR.

Another thing to look at is the alchemist's kit in Ultimate Equipment; it includes an Alchemy Crafting Kit and several other items while only weighing 24 pounds. This further alludes to the entry for Alchemy Crafting Kit having a typo with its weight.

From what I see in the PRD they are all similar but slightly different things. The alchemist kit is light and cheap and has all the material components needed for his extracts, mutagens, and bombs but doesn't give any bonuses, the portable alchemist lab is heavier and more expensive and does just alchemy checks but gives you a +1 tool bonus, and the alchemist lab is heavier still, even more expensive, just does alchemy checks but provides a +2 tool bonus.
