RIP Tom Clancy

Books

Tom Clancy dies at age 66. You will be missed. I loved his earlier books.

Silver Crusade

Just heard the news, as far as thrillers go I would put him up there with Ludlum. R.I.P good sir

Sad for sure.

For the most part I felt that Clancy's books started out in the stratosphere and each new book was slightly less interesting and compelling than the last. I still think that by far his best two books are "The Hunt for Red October" and "Red Storm Rising."

Of course I live in Denver and he nuked us... so...

Not a fan due to his Nippophobia in Debt of Honor, but even though he was a die hard Republican he criticized both parties when he disagreed with them, so he had some principles.

May he rest peacefully in the big conspiracy theory in the sky.

Sad to hear. Rest in Peace.

+1, qualified. I think I liked Cardinal of the Kremlin better by a hair (with the notable exception of the US turncoat's motivation, about which the less said the better), but since that was IIRC his third it doesn't materially change your point.

R.I.P.

Red storm Rising was one of my favourite books. Bummer.

What a shame. I didn't care for his last few offerings, but as others have noted The Hunt for Red October and Red Storm Rising were among the most compelling books I've ever read. Red Storm in particular painted an exceptionally interesting take on modern war back in the 80s.

Sorry to see him go (and so young)!

Man, he died too young. RIP.

Spoiler:
What's nippophobia?

Fear of Japan (Nippon in Japanese).

Pretty cool guy, I have to say, but on the other hand, I must also confess: I tried reading Patriot Games and had to stop after the first fifty pages or so. Jack Ryan seemed too close to being a Gary Stu character for my tastes.
