Product description updated and images added. Looks like a real treat!

Looks great.

Liberty's Edge

Yeah, it really is a great product! It's not one of those cheap, flimsy calendars. This is printed on really nice, heavy coated stock and the images are gorgeous in person. Basically, this is a high quality professionally printed calendar that you can keep long after 2014 has come and gone.

I'm actually holding one in my hands right now and honestly, these are awesome. I can't wait for folks to get their hands on their copy (or heck, copies!)

I would strongly recommend ordering soon though - these are limited edition kind of things!

I haven't bought a calendar in years, but I will now. Do we know approximately when they'll show up?

The printer has shared a couple samples, and are now doing the bindery, holepunch, and trim. I expect to see them in the Paizo store no later than October 15.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Looks great although when I first saw this I was hoping for some Kobold Cheesecake or perhaps beefcake...you know Kobold firemen and such. :)

Trying to think...have I ever seen an illustration of a female kobold? I can't actually recall.

Anyway, I'll definitely check back in on this. I just put some other Kobold Press stuff into the shopping cart that will just have to wait.

I don't know that a female kobold would look all that different from a male kobold. Reptiles tend not to have as much sexual dimorphism as mammals (OMG, my biology classes finally pay off, I remembered sexual dimorphism!).

But hm... Maybe clothing or something else could show that a kobold is female? Interesting question.

My PCs will probably be rescuing a female lizardfolk this weekend, so I've been thinking of ways to differentiate between males and females. Probably apply the same thing for female kobolds. Maybe snouts are longer/shorter with a slightly different shape, certain scale markings/colorations/sheen, ridges/horns/nubby protusions, tail length/shape/size. Maybe next year's calendar- the first female kobold illustration! Quick google search for female kobolds only turned up the usually kobold illustrations.

Liberty's Edge

No female kobolds that we know of - just 13 months of fantastic fantasy art :)

Liberty's Edge

For the curious, there's a bit more about the Kobold Press 2014 Calendar over on KoboldPress.com

Liberty's Edge

I wanted to take a moment to spot-light one of the cool aspects of this calendar (other than top-quality production and awesome art work, that is :)

As the store text says, each month of the 2014 Kobold Press Calendar is loaded with lots of cool, interesting and/or fun dates that gamers and fantasy / sci-fi fans will love, including:

- Release dates of iconic games, past and present
- Release dates of landmark fantasy and science fiction movies
- Birthdays of famous science fiction and fantasy writers, and gaming professionals, including the birthdays of a few Paizonians, some Wizards, and the Kobold crew!

So, as we wait for the calendars to make they way across the country to the Paizo and Kobold Press warehouses, I thought it might be fun to throw out just a few of the things you'll learn IF you get your hands on a copy of the 2014 Kobold Press Calendar (before they're all gone, that is! :)

Here's the first one:

Which famous fantasy author and fantasy artist share a birthday?

Liberty's Edge

While you think about the first one, here's another fun factoid to ponder:

Planescape was released on what famous fantasy author's birthday?

Liberty's Edge

And here's one for all my fellow Paizo-heads ...

Which Paizo staffer was born on Christmas day?

Liberty's Edge

It looks like the Kobold Press 2014 Calendar should be arriving at the Paizo warehouses any day now! Since we're getting so close, here's another fun question. Feel free to post your guess here or you can wait until you get your copy of the calendar and find out for yourself!

Which fantasy author and gaming icon's birthday falls on the same day the Lord of the Rings - The Fellowship of the Ring was first published ?

(I really loved discovering this one - it's a pretty cool coincidence ... or is is? :)

Liberty's Edge

Well, barring any last-minute shipping disasters, the Kobold Press 2014 Calendar arrives today!

In honor of this happy day, here's a nice, Valentine's Day question

What famous fantasy artist was born on Valentine's Day

Liberty's Edge

The 2014 Kobold Press Calendar is Here!

That's right, the calendars have completed their cross-country trek and are now safely at Kobold Press HQ! They should be arriving in the Paizo warehouses today as well.

Speaking of that, as folks who have already ordered start to receive their calendars, we'd love to hear your thoughts - heck, a full-fledged review would certainly be welcomed!

Oh, here's the next fun factoid you would know if you had your copy of the calendar :)

Gene Roddenberry died on which Paizo staffer's birthday?

Thirteen of my Australian dollars, shipping included? Considering I could buy a calendar in stores for $20-25 that wouldn't be as awesome?

*cracks knuckles* Let's do this.

Liberty's Edge

That's the spirit El Ronza!

We'd love to see a review once you get the calendar!

In fact, for any of those early birds that have already ordered and received their calendar(s), why not post a review and let us know what you think? :)

Having received mine about a week ago let me say I am quite pleased. A few of my favorite points about this product starting with some minor but important ones.

- Form factor: Not a monstrously large calendar as is common. Not too small either, just right in my opinion.

- Gloss: Another hit right in the middle. Often I find fantasy calendars to be very glossy/waxy so that viewing it from an angle in a well lit room is impossible. This product has just the right amount of sheen.

- Artwork: With Kobold's line-up of talent you expect a litany of great art. They deliver every page.

- Quips of Knowledge: The months and days are noted with various facts & trivia related to our beloved hobby. The history entries cover artists & authors birthdays, historical events (e.g. WotC purchases TSR) as well upcoming events (e.g. Gen Con 2014) among other facts.

I like it. I like it a lot. Once again the Kobolds have delivered a top notch product. Excellent quality, top tier art and layout coupled with esoteric bits of gaming lore. $10 well spent and I'll likely pick up a few more as gifts for my gaming friends.

Liberty's Edge

Thanks Brelsh, really glad you like it!

On top of the things you mention, another fun thing that you, as owner of a calendar, might have noticed is that you get a few advanced reveals of up-coming Kobold Press products that have not otherwise been officially announced yet! Cool, huh? :)

If you are so inclined, why not also post your thoughts under the Product Review tab too? That way other folks can see the number of stars you give the calendar etc.

All the best!

Indeed sir, I did notice those items and yes....very cool. Knowing what the Kobolds have in their cook pot is always good info.

I am inclined and have done so. Let's all overlook my Perception critical failure...yes? ;)

Thank you for the review, Brelsh!

Liberty's Edge

Thank you Brelsh!

Perception critical failure? What Perception critical failure?

Liberty's Edge

Thanks for your review as well Aeyman!

That makes 2 5-star reviews now, which is awesome. Anyone else who has received their calendar, we'd love to hear your thoughts :)

The Exchange Contributor; Publisher, Kobold Press; RPG Superstar Judge

Yep, thanks for the reviews. Bumping this now because (as the reviewers point out), it makes a great gift.

Liberty's Edge

Great point Wolfgang! And now is the time to order if you want them in time for Holiday gifts What fantasy gamer wouldn't want a calendar with awesome fantasy art and all sorts of dates and factoids specifically relevant to geeks and gamers alike? Get one for each member of your gaming group!

And, since this is a 13 month calendar, if you get yours this month, you can actually start using and enjoying it on December 1st of this year still!

And heck, lame calendars printed on much flimsier paper you pick up at a shopping mall kiosk cost more than this - at less than $10, the 2014 Kobold Press Calendar is a steal!

Liberty's Edge

We have 2 5-star reviews so far (which is wonderful) but I'd love to see a few more reviews:) At the rate these are selling, we know there are a lot of folks out there who have a copy ... so how 'bout some more reviews! :)

Liberty's Edge

Quick reminder - there's still some time left to get your calendar in time for the new year!

The Exchange Contributor; Publisher, Kobold Press; RPG Superstar Judge

And for those who waited, a discount on the calendar.

For the reviewer who mentioned the size, the unfolded calendar is 11 inches wide and 17 inches tall. Not massive, and fits nicely on smaller walls and spaces like offices.

Received my calendar last week. The artwork is great but my favorite thing is the dates listed for important rpg moments or people. I don't think any other calendar has these dates listed. I will be buying this calendar every year. Great job on this.

Liberty's Edge

@John Benbo - thanks for the wonderful 5-star review!

@PathfinderFan64 - really glad you are enjoying the calendar :)

The start of a new year, multiple 5-star reviews and now a discounted price = the PERFECT time to get your copy! What are you waiting for? :)

Liberty's Edge

Cool! The 2014 Kobold Calendar is part of the Big Kobold Press Sale which runs through February 9th!

The Exchange Contributor; Publisher, Kobold Press; RPG Superstar Judge

And the Calendar got a nice mention on the EN World front page today. I have to say, it's nice when people notice all the cool little things in it.

Liberty's Edge

Excellent! As Wolfgang says, there are so many cool little bits of info scattered across each month, not to mention AWESOME art, it's nice to see the calendar get this kind of recognition.

This is probably a good time to point out that it's only March, so there is still plenty of 2014 left to enjoy this calendar! If you haven't picked your copy up yet, what are you waiting for? :)

A bit late to mention: finding some glaring problems with missing (actual, not dates) days in July and worst of all August. Just an FYI for anyone who cares about future calendar quality......

Ugh! From Hell's heart the calendar stabs me one last time as 2014 comes to a close.... Fritz Leiber's birthday is listed incorrectly as Dec. 30. Turns out that is really Dec. 24 th. Grumble, grumble, grumble.
