What the flaming Kukris?!?!?!?!?

Rise of the Runelords

party looted 2 continual flame kukris from the bottom level of thistletop. They claim the selling price should be 18,000-20,000 gold pieces for the set. why would these items be in a first level adventure, and how much should they cost?

Continual Flame is a simple wizard light spell. Those weapons are not worth anything significant; just whatever a regular continual flame spell is worth (ie, continual flame is just continual light from the old AD&D game).

The only two continual flame kukris I see are the ones from the statue on the next to last level, the ones in the hands of the statue (D12, Chapel to Lamashtu, p. 57).

I can see where they would come to the conclusion; I'll explain that first.

A continuous spell effect magic item costs Spell Level x Caster Level x 2000gp. Continual Flame is a level 2 sor/wiz spell; that's a minimum caster level of 3. So 2 x 3 x 2000 is 12,000gp per item.

However, the breaker here is that Continual Flame already has a duration of permanent, so no sane person would pay more than 50gp (the component cost of the spell) for something with this spell cast on it.

They are meant to be decorative and mildly functional, nothing more.

Yeah. Points for fast-talking, though.

wait till the party finds out the blacksmith das korvut wants to sell the kukris to buy resurrection for his dead son simon.....lol plot twist

Whoa!!!
The Kukri's shouldn't be anywhere NEAR that expensive. They're basically "Everburning Torches", but using Kukri's instead of Torches.

OGC says Everburning Torches are 110gp (I could swear they're 90gp, in the Core Book), and Kukri's are 8gp each. It doesn't say the Kukri's are magical or even masterwork, just that they shine.
