So what did you think?

I got hit with a thought while watching it.

Spoiler:
Coulson is going to be Ultron!

The whole "He can't ever know." is foreshadowing. He learns he is not real, goes nutso and becomes the Avengers biggest foe.

Mainly because Joss Whedon likes to crap on characters that fans like, that he is not excited about. Killing Coulson probably won't be enough, he also has to destroy his legacy.

Loved it. Plus Chloe Bennet is just pretty amazing!

Aw, crap, this came on tonight? I meant to DVR it.

I'll need to look it up online, it seems.

I thought it was great! My theory on Coulson? Think back to how Nick Fury avoided getting assassinated in the earliest issues of S.H.I.E.L.D.

I thought it was good.

Does anyone remember any female made scientist villains in the marvel comics?

Was ok. I liked the tie in to Ironman 3 and avengers.

Things i didnt like

1. the 2 scientists on the team were to crazy, happy, etc
2. The girl in the van. Even more unrealistic than the comics. Felt a lot like saturday morning disney tv

Things i did like
1. Old "angel" cast memeber returns. hopefully whedon brings in more
2. future technology
3. has potential if we get real marvel villians

My thoughts exactly!

And I loved the Bond-wannabe's "Someone really wanted the initials to spell shield?"

Not a spoiler, it was in all the previews.

Sure--LMD, and doesn't know it. My short reactions: Coulson's good, but everyone else has some work to do to settle into ensemble mode; they're kind of generic at this point. Whedon never has gotten the hang of doing pilots. But I did like seeing Shepherd Book again.

I liked it quite a bit. I found the two science geeks amusing.

I also liked the call back to the original SHIELD story in the comics at the end with Lola.

I loved the line

Spoiler:
"For interpersonal skills, she drew what looks like a poop with a knife sticking out of it."

Pres Man: Whedon was told to kill off Coulson by the movie execs.

And I'm not sure where you get the idea he likes to crap on characters. Kill them off, sure (though his frequent partner Tim Minear has a far deadlier reputation there) but I don't recall him ruining any character's legacy.

I really liked it - the show has potential.

Had the right amount of humor, and wasn't stupid-violent.

And I like the scientists.

I liked it.

There is plenty of room for character development and depth to be added.

I liked the 2 scientists. They seemed to love the adventure of it.

I also liked the girl in the van. She was smart and snarky.

The only one I didn't like is the Bond-wannabe. He came off as a douche, but that was obviously intentional.

I'm encouraged that they seem to have some character development plans for just about everyone.

I'll watch the stream of it tonight on ABC's site. I wonder if they'll stream it all season.

I like the two scientist.

I like the girl in the van.

I like seeing old Buffy/Angel cast members and hope for more.

I hope to see actual super powered people that didn't get there powers from tech(alien or otherwise).

I liked it a lot... just one issue here.

Hmmm... how do I do a spoiler block?

Under where you post there is a button labeled "How to format your text" and gives you some details.

To spoiler you put {spoiler} before and {/spoiler} after (with brackets [] instead of braces {}). If you say {spoiler=text} you can give your spoiler a title.

There have been a few, but the one who immediately comes to mind is Monica Rappaccini, A.I.M. Scientist Supreme. A.I.M. was featured in Iron Man 3 and the tech used in the episode was derivative of the Extremis from the film. Maybe they're setting A.I.M. up as S.H.I.E.L.D.'s opposite number, but I won't be happy until I see beekeeper suits. Also, George Tarleton, but I think we're a long way off from seeing M.O.D.O.K.

My thoughts on the show? I pretty much hate all the characters except Coulson and May (and I only don't hate her because she didn't do anything worth mentioning during the episode.) I thought the best way for the first episode to end would have been with just about everyone dying in a fiery explosion. If they could at least kill Skye and Agent Ward by the end of the next episode that would be super. I really really hate those two.

Other than that, the humor fell flat, a lot of the dialogue was awful and the special effects were, well, not great. I'm going to give it a few more episodes, but the first episode didn't do anything to allay the low expectations I had going into this. It's not even like I want the show to be bad. Just the opposite. I hope it gets awesome but, so far, I think it's more likely to get cancelled.

Tried to watch it on ABC

Error, you are not in US. thus you cannot watch. Blah blah blah international law blah blah bullcrap.

Now i either have to wait for one of our own channels to pick this up (hah fat chance) or i have to do illegal stuff.

We won't tell.

Generally, I liked it. I'm hoping that it will create even greater continuity among the various Marvel movies - if we don't see some of these characters pop up in the next wave of Marvel movies, I will be disappoint.

Ok here is my issue

Spoiler:
The hacker/activist from the van went from full blown paranoia to trusting team member after just one interview? Yeah I know Coulson let her question one of his new operatives but people don't change THAT fast even if they want to.

PS: Thanks pres man.

I think she lets her fangirl side win her over. That or she actually is a double agent.

Surprised no one mentioned seeing Shepard Book as well....and in a role that at least implies reoccurring character.

I had high hopes, but I thought it was kind of ridiculously loaded with cliches.

Spoiler:
"It's an origin story."

At the end, I half expected Coulson to say "Roads? Where we're going, we don't need roads." I'm betting they wrote it out of the draft script after the levels of cheese were becoming unbearably high.

I did like that Shepherd Book and Camille from SG:U are in it. Quite a lot, actually. For a minute I also thought Chloe Bennet was Summer Glau.

Sovereign Court

Seen it, liked it a lot. Not a bad pilot all in all.

Spoiler:
Aim again? I mean mixing extremis with chitauri tech i assume. Maybe we get to see MODOK once.

I'm hoping for some big guy or girl cameos. Now that would be A-Awesome.

@ Avatar...dude, she is Mulan first and foremost.

I like cheese. Cheese is good.

Sovereign Court

I'm not a huge supers guy so take my review with a grain of salt. Pretty sure I'm not the target audience for this.

The show has what seems like a good production budget. While it makes sense to make Shield a supers CSI I really didn't dig it. There are way too many forensic crime shows on TV right now. Didn't really see anything new with this story wise. Typical cast introduction, predictable plot, boldly goes where thousands of shows have gone before. Mediocre show riding on a huge IP so will probably be around for several seasons.

On a side note anybody watch that craptastic sitcom that follows Shield? 80's kid with a camera filming his family. /puke I was glad my time on the treadmill at the gym was up I couldn't turn it off fast enough.

Shadow Lodge

She is Camille from SG:U.

I like cheese too, but the kind I can eat, not the stuff I have to watch go bad.

Didn't you hear? James Spader is ULTRON!

I liked it. Hope it lasts.

Shadow Lodge

Loved all the little inside jokes and references. Liked pretty much all the characters (especially "Preacher") and Gunn, except that hacker girl. Far too over the top, and she full on kicks a random innocent guy in the groin just because. Really just didnt like her at all and hope they ditch her soon.

Shes an asset, and we know what happens to "assets" once the missions over. :)

Notice the scene in the van when she was nabbing the "thumb drive"? There is more to her than she's letting on.

Knowing the producer. Double agent or something to that effect seems likely.

So far the techs and the Driver, and Coulson have won me over. The rest of the cast needs work.

** spoiler omitted **

The bit with the car at the end was a reference to the original SHIELD story from 1965, a full twenty years before

Spoiler:
Back to the Future
. The car is from the same era and Coulson makes reference earlier in the episode to it being early spy tech. The fact that a movie copied the design 20 years later doesn't stop it being a reference to the original story and fun nod to fans of the comics.

"Just because"?

Spoiler:
I dunno if I'd call starting a fight with a group of men as a distraction so she can run away from the possibly homicidal kidnapper with super strength "just because".

Just sayin'.

Never was a fan of Coulson, who seemed to be perpetually promoted by whatever movie he was in *Care about this guy!* which kind of turned me off to him, 'cause I'm contrary that way and tend to knee-jerk against whomever the director is screaming at me to 'love this character, dammit!'

But, so far, I'm liking *all* of the other characters, and hope to see more of 'Shepherd Book' as well.

Although, Fitz and Simmons cutesy talking over each other routine will get old *very* fast if that keeps up. Too cute by half.

Shadow Lodge

Oops. Then I guess now I'm expecting Doc Brown to say "You'd better decide in the next 10 minutes Marty. The tide is rising!"

This.

Plus, all the whining about how Joss Whedon loves to kill characters as evidenced by Coulson's death has gotten very old, very quickly. You might as well complain that the deaths of Uncle Ben or Martha and Thomas Wayne were arbitrary. Having a supporting character die to spur the heroes to action is a trope that pre-dates Whedon. The only way Coulson' death could've been more obvious is if he had talked about how he was going to sell his Captain America cards to fund his retirement, scheduled to occur the following week.

"You know what Mr. Stark, I'm getting too old for this sh.t. I have 3 weeks till retirement."

Also, here's a picture of my newborn baby.

Dark Archive

"Did I tell you about my childhood or retirement plans?" -said any character who has had zero characterization ever, two minutes before they die.

Such a cliché. Watching Hunt for the Red October, when Sam Neill's character started talking about wanting to see Montana, my roommate said out loud, 'Dead!'

I'd like to see that in a comedy, where a support character talks about how it's their first week on the job, but they're already looking forward to retirement next month.

That would be Hot Shots!

I'll have to rewatch that then. I remember some of that... did that character keeping hitting the tropes, but surviving horrible accidents?

I thought it was pretty bad. There were hints of inspired writing, mostly in the form of clever dialogue, but otherwise the whole thing was meh.

Maybe it will grow into something better.

Right now the entire show is pretty much riding on Agent Coulson. If he can't keep his appeal going from something more than the novelty of him being an LMD, I don't see this show lasting more than six weeks.

It's a good review. One of the points in it (needs to dig deeper into Marvel's bag of weirdness)...is fine but I think the show needs to stage it out nice and slowly. Give time for the weird to sink into new fans.

I mean, if I pulled out Dark Hawk on them. Well, damn there would be a while to understand the body swaping going on.

Come to think of it...they need to do a Stiltman Episode.

Sovereign Court

Decent enough start, and it'll be interesting to see where it goes. I'm hoping that we get just a bit of moral dubiousness, given the whole 'secret government agency given infinite money and no legal oversight' thing that SHIELD has going on, but I'd be surprised if we got any of that.

I'm expecting a lot of monster of the week stuff, at least to begin with.

I like the fact that both Ward and Skye had valid points. She was stirring the pot without regard as to what would happen, but that doesn't negate her point about self-appointed saviors hiding things from people.
