weapon ability

Shadow Lodge

So, I'm looking at a particular weapon ability for my holy tactician. He's already got abilties to give lots of people shaken. (Think holy drill sergent) the weapon does this:

"When the wielder strikes a creature that is frightened, shaken, or panicked, that creature becomes sickened for 1 round. [If the target drops] gain 5 temp hp for 10 minutes."

Only problem is the name of the ability: cruel. Would such a weapon thus be a problem for a tactics based paladin of iomedae?

Cruel (weapon special ability): A cruel weapon feeds on fear and suffering. When the wielder strikes a creature that is frightened, shaken, or panicked with a cruel weapon, that creature becomes sickened for 1 round. When the wielder uses the weapon to knock unconscious or kill a creature, he gains 5 temporary hit points that last for 10 minutes.

Faint necromancy; CL 5th; Craft Magic Arms and Armor, cause fear, death knell; Price +1 bonus.

RAW, it's not expressively evil. However, as a GM the description of the ability makes me say no, that's not very Paladin-like. Expect table variance.

One of the spells used in the weapon ability *is* evil (as per the descriptor), so personally I wouldn't do such a thing, but, most people I know don't recognize evil till you're off killing people indiscriminately.

The more I think on it, the less paladiny it feels. If it didn't have the temp hp for dropping things I'd be fine - I only care about the sickened part.
