Cloudkill

Rules Questions

I have a question on cloudkill's movement.

One of my players is of the mindset that the cloud always moves 10 ft away from the wizard, so by the wizard moving around, he can "steer" the cloud where he wants it to go.

My interpretation is that it moves from the point it's cast and always moves from the same origin.

Figured I would check to see which interpretation is the more commonly accepted one.

Direction does not change once set.

From the spell description:
"Figure out the cloud's new spread each round based on its new point of origin, which is 10 feet farther away from the point of origin where you cast the spell."

The caster's movement doesn't affect the cloud's movement.

Thanks, that's the way I was understanding it. I think he was focusing on the "moves away from you at 10 feet per round" part of the description.
