Yeah, that would be good to know.

I wonder if what was planned for the Rappan Athuk expansions has changed along the way?

On the map on page 7 there is a tunnel that goes to level 3D. There is no level 3D which is why everyone was expecting another level later. Also, did Bill ever get a chance to look at the scale? It appeared to me that half of it was done in 5' scale and half of it in 10' scale. Neither seemed to work well when I ran it and had to sort of combine scales.

** spoiler omitted **

This was the point made that the Tunnels of Terror were going to be in a few parts, at least one other part. I can always make my own - I love that dungeon. I guess for the purposes of maybe running it in the next year, should I make my own or will the rest of it come out.

I know much of this material is based off of old notes and conversions - I'm not demanding that a part be made if it never existed/was written. I just wanted to know if it was slated to come out or if I should just write the rest on my own so I know what I need to get that access way to RA viable in my game.

I actually looked at the map maybe 3 times today, and the 3D never grabbed my eye. I swear, the brain goes away...

Yes, the Tunnels will continue, but not anytime soon. Bill is neck deep in Sword of Air now, so the Tunnels would have to be after that. They will not be part of the subscription service, but we are looking at another means of getting updated material to the fans of Rappan Athuk. So, yes, there is more coming, but you should probably have the players run into a weird cave-in, that looks recent....

Hi everyone,
Seeing as how I'm the author of Cyclopean Deeps, even though Skeeter has done a wonderful job of covering for me, I should step up and apologize for the delay. First off, I should let everyone know that Cyclopean Deeps is the one and only thing on my desk, other than handling FGG's legal stuff, mainly contracts. The project is not in danger and is not on hold. It's delayed, and that's simply because I have bipolar disorder and hit a depression period which appears to be finished at this point. There was also a minor legal issue with the series, which Skeeter used to avoid saying that "Matt's crazy at the moment, but that happens." Everyone who knows me in the gaming community (mainly the old school gang) also knows that I have bipolar disorder -- I disappeared for about a year after writing OSRIC, and it has happened a few times. Bill and Skeeter and the gang all knew this about me, but we didn't really think to write it in as a potential risk on the Kickstarter.

In any case, I was actually working on Cyclopean Deeps through the period of time when I was in the depression -- and there's some pretty weird stuff resulting from that, actually -- but what happened was a reorientation across the outline of the 12 parts of the book. By reorientation, I mean that I wanted to make the various parts operate more like a web than like a line. That's the reason why the sudden hold-up took place in the City of Izamne, where lots of potential missions converge. I realized that in order to do what I wanted to do, I had to have a fairly detailed view of what was happening in the entire Deeps, something more in depth than the existing (relatively linear) outline. I discovered that to write #4, I needed to know more about #5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, and 12.

And I've actually been working steadily on these, but it's a classic example of Skeeter trying to force a (certifiably insane) author to say, "this is completed!" I feel his pain, and I know that all of you are waiting with tapping feet and lowering brows.

Here's the status report: Many thousands of words are written, tons of maps are drawn, there is no risk whatsoever, ever, ever, that we would somehow default on this, unless I get hit by a bus and die, in which case Bill would finish it. The project's spine, meaning the "story" of the main powers behind the Deeps -- that's done, it's being threaded into the details as I write them. What's not finished is the integration of smaller parts with other smaller parts that are found chapters distant from each other. The longer I spend on the work as a whole, the better it becomes as a non-linear ... I hate to say sandbox, since it has become a sales-word, but .. as a sandbox. It evolves like a tapestry rather than a rope.

As I understand it, I have made this project run terribly behind schedule. That is entirely my fault, and I take full responsibility. The reason isn't anything insidious -- no other FGG project, including Sword of Air, is on my desk ahead of CD, with the exception of phone calls from Bill. Anyone who has ever been on the phone with Bill understands what I mean. It's like talking to a lightning elemental. But back to the point: if you are angry about the delay on CD, it is my fault, please direct all criticism to me, and please also understand that this is not a delay of inattention, it is a delay of workmanship. There has been no stopping of work, it's just that the work has been divided among all the parts, with the result that the next part has been delayed in order to get all the strands of the web worked into it.

As Skeeter mentioned, I also sent him a bunch of my maps (all pre-cartographer) so he can post those for people to get a flavor for what's being done.

I hope that this helps, in terms of people understanding why the delay existed (and will continue to exist for a short period of time, because I'm still not ready to finalize Izamne until I pull in all the threads).

I don't know if it makes sense to create a Cyclopean Deeps Q&A thread, or something like that (?)

As a similar sufferer from depression, I can only sympathize with you. I'd also like to say though that you've given me hope. My freelancing career was messed around with from similar issues, but seeing that you're able to deal with it (to some degree) is really, really encouraging to see. I've only recently started picking up where I left off, and you've just given me another reason to think I can succeed and not come crashing down in flames again. Thank you :)

Cyclopean Deeps is destined to be a classic! I can wait many years for those eventual hardcovers!

Thank you for the update and for being so honest Matt.

I love what I have seen Cyclopean Deeps so far and your vision of how you see it developing has gotten me really excited.

And I agree with Astral Frog, Cyclopean Deeps as all the makings of a classic adventure, and that is certainly something worth waiting for.

Thank you for the honest, direct communication rather than just leaving everyone in the dark wondering what happened.

Yes, thank you, Matt. And thank you for the great products!

Good way to describe the experience, Matt! Talking to Bill is good for brain health as the synapses are forced to fire more rapidly just to keep up with him.

This communication just made me even more excited for Cyclopean Deeps. I can wait beyond the original expected timeline if we get fed more tidbits like this!

Sorry to do this to you, but Chp 4 is AWESOME with Izamne info.

I just finished reading and really enjoyed it! Thanks again and keep'em coming! Off to continue to figure out how to intergarte the new info into metaplots!!

Dark Archive

I have to say - Hell's Hamlet (RA 4 - Alex Clatworthy) is exceptional and was very engrossing. So much so that I actually feel bad for all the villains who reside there and wish they were a little more LN than LE (to preserve them from PC assault). I've always liked bad guys who expressed discipline and had some loyalty and admiration for each other as a team.

Hopefully when I run the mod and the players go there it won't be to wipe them out (and they won't have a paladin in their party) and maybe work to a mutual end to destroy Rappan Athuk.

Also, I think the locale serves as a good example of how to write up an LE community without so many of the cliché’s associated with the alignment. These guys are smart, tough and will wipe out a higher level party if they have time to mobilize their forces and are able to swarm them.

High point: Excellent NPCs – detail, write-up, motivation, interactions, agenda’s and even friendships.
Low point: None. I wish this was just longer/expanded idea (more of everything). Given the context of the mod/write-up (as an RA installment) it does an excellent job of offering a base to rest or a place to attack, in addition to having detailed NPCs that are not throw away cut outs.

I'm not sure this is the right thread to necro, but I wanted to mention to the FGG guys that my RA and CD files from backing the Kickstarter haven't been transferred over to my TalesOfTheFrogGod.com account.

Admittedly, I made the account late after the announcement was made, but I did mention it here and sent an email. Could someone at FGG please help me with this?

If you haven't done so already, your best bet will be to go to their new website and submit a post to their "Customer Service & Support" forums.

We are working on overhauling the entire delivery system for these files, and we are on track to get that completed by the end of the month. I am currently (even as I type this, strangely enough) going through email addresses and verifying the info people gave me is correct (in many cases it is not).

So, by the end of the month, expect and email if we have any quesitons, and when everything it loaded, we'll announce.

Skeeter

Skeeter, does that include pdf's and electronic delivery items from the current kickstarter as well?

Thanks for the fast reply, Skeeter! No worries regarding when it gets done; I was just worried that things had been completed already and I'd gotten left behind due to my taking a while to notify you guys.

No, for those issues you need to submit a request through the website. I know Chris has been super-swamped with backend website stuff for the last couple of months, setting things up and working out bugs. Would be great if we could do this more than part-time, but we all have day jobs, too. Sorry its taking so long...

Plan is to have them available with the new rollout by the end of the month. I thought I had put that in my above post, but it must have just been a voice in my head.

They just went to layout last night, so should be soon!

Understood, and no worries. Was just curious; hadn't heard much since the SoA kickstarter ended. thanks for the update!

From what I understand, we're still waiting on some people to send in their info, and then we'll do something about getting files out.

Skeeter you know I love you guys, but I got to tell you this is the first time I have been frustrated with ya all.

I was told months ago I should be seeing all my Kickstarter files shortly, many of which I no longer have access to.

You have gone past my patience tolerance..

I never have problem with development of your products, I understand that can take time, but these are already developed and for myself at least you (You as your company, not you personally) have received the list of what I am missing almost 3 months ago and they are still not in my files list.

Normally I would just complain to you guys through your Customer Support email but I have not been receiving replies to that. Please work on replying to customer support requests, I am not a fan of having to make posts like this publicly, but like I said My patience has gotten past that point.

Still love your products, you just need to work on Customer Support.

Arnwyn,

Did you check your spam folder? This one came in as an email with a link to get the file. Different than how we got the other installments.

Yeah, checked all my email folders.

In fact, I have subs to both CD and RA - and I got the CD email fine and dandy.

But I never did get the RA email... :(

Hi All,

First off, I'm very sorry to those of you who haven't received the email with your subscriptions. Sometimes things "bounce" back and are never really delivered.

If you are a subscriber to either Rappan Athuk or Cyclopean Deeps and have not received the latest installment of one or both of them, then please submit a request form here: http://froggodgames.com/support

As long as you have an account on the Frog God Games website I can add your files to your account so that you'll have access to them. If you do not already have an account you can make one here: http://froggodgames.com/user/register

Once the files are added you can view and download them by logging in, going to "My Account" then clicking on the "Files" tab. This area stores everything you purchase from the FGG website.

Thanks,

-Chris

Great work, guys. I love all of your work, especially your awesome bestiaries. I'm proud to say that I've used several of your monsters in my campaign: Everyone got a kick out the bard summoning a gravity elemental, and last session our paladin dueled a jovial tormentor devil named Rictus to the death (though that was mainly because I forgot to have him use his soulcatcher net. Aggh!). I eagerly look forward to your future projects.
