Searching for the Divine.....

Recruitment

Dark Archive

Hello folks I am running RoW here on these boards and we just lost our Divine caster to rl attrition. Frankly we need a new one. Note you will be expected to be able to heal but not necessarily be the full time healer other players are willing to pitch in. However before we get to crunch I need concept and backstory please. And I will most likely not choose before monday.

Grand Lodge

While he doesn't have the usual tragic backstory or anything terribly interesting, Ruthgar is as reliable as they come. Having studied religion and philosophy while training to be a Cleric, he follows the teachings of Torag. With his trusted Warhammer and confident in his ability to make the best out of a terrible situation, he roams the countryside. Helping those in need, healing the sick and offering aid to any adventurers that are in need of his clerical skills.

Level, point buy, etc?

Dark Archive

Lvl one we used a roll with threshold method but i want to see fluff and backstory before you swe s t build. Note this is the same thing they had to do too. I am more interested in story than mechanics.

As for the way it worked out 4d6 drop lowest. If your pb is less than 30pts you may add til you get to 30. Note this means your stuck with what you roll you can just pad a bit.

You will also select one story feat.

Also I need goals and fears

And atleast three people you know one ally, one neutral, and one rival/foe. I may or may not use these but I like to have the seeds around.

Bump

Dotting for interest. Couple of questions.

1: What function do the other party members serve? Do we need a battle cleric for the front line? Or maybe an oracle who can serve as a face? Other than healing spells, do we need utility, buffing, battlefield control, etc. What do the other party members do?

2: Are their any restrictions as far as race/class/alignment?

I realize the first question isn't directly important to the concept or backstory, their background is party of who they are

Dark Archive

1. We could use a wall most of the rest of the party is focused on ranged combat. As far as buffing that is mostly covered via bard there is a sohei mnk planning on doing battlefield control. But as far as that goes as you level I will let you guys sort out that sort of thing.

2No evil and no third party. Other than that feel free.

1: Tank healer, got it. I'm thinking of a cleric of Sarenrae with the Fire and Healing domains. I have an idea that he/she accidentally burned a loved one and was traumatized by it, prayed to Sarenrae for forgiveness, and was granted healing abilities. Just a spur of the moment thing, I'll have more details later

2: Ya I do the same things. I hate 99% of 3rd party and I only allow evil if it's an evil campaign

Dark Archive

Honestly I allow 3p in my home games but this is the first time I have run on the forums and just don't feel like sorting through it all.

As for the evil thing I don't normally mind but this isn't my home group so I don't know who can and can't handle it as far as keeping the party cohesive so its just easier to say no.

A wall sounds more like a paladin, of course that doesn't give you all the divine spells...

That was exactly my first thought as well, especially if you were a healing focused paladin. But every party benefits from a full progression divine caster

Here is the story/personality for a Lawful Neutral Dhampir cleric. I will have a full character sheet and alias up later if you are interested.

Backstory:

The birth of Izorshi Sorph was a tragic incident. Her mother Kamshi was a human priestess of Pharasma, who spent much of her life in a temple in Korvosa. Over time, Kamshi was seduced by (and fell in love with) a mysterious stranger. She had a child with him, and only then did she discover the man she had fallen for was actually a vampire. Although she could normally detect undead, he had used abjurations to conceal his nature and his alignment. Horrified at her relation with the undead, Kamshi did not want to risk her church finding out. She decided to flee Korvosa, taking Izorshi with her.
Izorshi's childhood was, to put it lightly, miserable. Embarrassed by her heritage, she had great difficulty making friends, for she was hesitant to reveal anything about herself to anyone. She hated herself for her connection to the undead. Although she was alive, she knew she was harmed by positive energy, and that that indicated that she was not fully alive.
Until one night, everything changed. When Izorshi neared adulthood, she was visited in a dream by Pharasma. The goddes spoke to Izorshi, encouraging her:
"Be strong, for your fate yet lies in the land of the living. Overcome yourself. You are not undead, you are truly alive. Go forth to the Worldwound and seek your fate."
When she awoke, Izorshi resolved to become a cleric of Pharasma. This was easier said than done, though, because he had to be especially careful to hide her dhampiric nature from her church. Nonetheless, she persevered, the goddess' words still fresh in her mind. Izorshi eventually learned to channel both positive and negative energy (Versatile Channeler feat), so that she could heal herself while concealing her nature from allies. When she was ready, she set out to the Worldwound to face the demons.

personality:
A cautious person, Izorshi is hesitant to reveal anything about herself even to her closest allies. At the same time, she still has to resist primal, monstrous urges stemming from her vampiric heritage. Yet Izorshi remains very loyal to the few friends she does make, knowing how hard they were to earn. She seeks to avoid the spotlight in most situations.

goals:
Izorshi seeks to overcome the dark aspect of her father. She hopes that helping living heroes fight off the demon invasion will allow her to expunge the evil within herself, and find whatever fate Pharasma has in store for her.

As to me: although I am relatively new to pbp, I have a lot of experience both playing and DMing 3.5 and Pathfinder. I can post every day, often multiple times a day, and am committed to staying in this game for the long-term.

I'll get a full character sheet up soon...

Oops, I left out a "fears" section, although you can probably figure out some of it...

fears:
Izorshi's main fears are as follows:
Other people's watch: Being a dhampir in a society from which undead and their kin are frowned upon, one of Izorshi's greatest fears is the possibility of her friends, allies, or enemies discovering her true nature.
Her father: Although she never knew him, Izorshi knows her father is rather powerful, and quite possibly still alive. Although she has a general loathing of all undead, she blames her father for her personal troubles, and fears him more than any other undead.
Herself:Izorshi knows that her very existence was caused by a creature whose own existence violates the tenants of her goddess, and she knows that there is some evil lurking within her.

Rolls for ability scores:
4d6 ⇒ (2, 4, 4, 2) = 12
4d6 ⇒ (1, 5, 5, 4) = 15
4d6 ⇒ (5, 5, 2, 6) = 18
4d6 ⇒ (5, 4, 3, 1) = 13
4d6 ⇒ (4, 3, 1, 3) = 11
4d6 ⇒ (5, 6, 1, 2) = 14

So that's a 16, 14, 13, 12, 10, 10. That's a 20 point-buy.

How long are you planning on leaving this recruitment open?

Dark Archive

A few more days most likely.

Note by wall I don't mean a huge armored beast I mean someone who can stand in melee and take a hit to help keep people off the ranged guys. So there isn't a straight line open to people.

The Oracle Aninga, who has heard Gozreh whispering in his ear in the thousand voices of the natural world since childhood. When world of the unnatural winter reached him at his home in Andoran, he made his way east to investigate and, if possible, to restore the seasons to their natural order.

As a boy, his curious connection to the god was noted by a druid, Mabah-Gareh, who took the child aside, teaching him the god's lore and wisdom. Aninga tried to emulate the druid's ways, but was distracted by the voices. They both knew that Aninga's path would be a different one, but Mabah-Gareh made every effort to prepare the boy for whatever destiny awaited him.

The old druid had another student, however, who resented the attention given Aninga, particularly as it became clear that Aninga would never become a druid. Patayin tried several times to drive a wedge between Aninga and Mabah-Gareh, but she was never successful. While they are rivals, they are both devoted to their teacher and their god, and thus far, neither has caused the other any harm. It is possible that Aninga has refrained from working against Patayin because he has feelings for her, but if that is the case, he has never spoken of them.

On his journey to Taldor, Aninga traveled in the caravan of a Varisian merchant named Janmar the Smiler, who never smiled. He paid for his passage with minor spells and the like, and at some point on the journey, he learned the Smiler was a smuggler. He has kept the secret, but the trust between the two is a fragile thing, and Aninga will be happy to put some distance between them.

As far as goals, his are simple. Travel, restore nature to its proper balance where it has gone awry, and possibly to earn Patayin's love. He fears arcane magics that pervert the natural world, and the ever-encroaching tide of human civilization.

Dark Archive

Interesting.

Divineshadow, what do you think of Izorshi? What do you think I should change to make it better?

Dark Archive

Honestly its pretty interesting. I would like to see builds from you both.

Qorin you will also need to pick a storyfeat as a bonus and work it in.

I'll take the Fearless Zeal feat, which suits his character fairly well.

Fearless Zeal:

Fearless Zeal (Story)
You're willing to lay down your life for your faith.

Prerequisite: You must be ordained as a sacred (or profane) champion of your faith by a high-ranking member of its clergy, or have the Devoted, Faith-Bringer, or Moral Debt background. Such an honor goes above and beyond the normal oaths required of a cleric or paladin.

Benefit: Once per day, you can add a +2 bonus on any single attack roll, caster level check, saving throw, or skill check. You must choose to add this bonus after the die has been rolled and success or failure determined, but before any results (such as damage) are rolled and applied. If you have 10 or more levels or hit dice, this bonus increases to +4 .

Goal: Die in pursuit of your faith's goals and be brought back to life. If you die in circumstances that don't involve your faith, you gain no benefit. If your GM permits, you can instead remain dead and create a new PC inspired by your heroic sacrifice.

Completion Benefit: If you died and came back, you become a living symbol of faith. Once per day as a standard action, you can inspire those who share your faith to great effort, granting them a +2 morale bonus on attack rolls and saving throws for 1 minute. This is a mind-affecting, language-dependent effect. If you create a new character inspired by your previous character, the new PC receives a +2 bonus to a single ability score. This ability score can't be one that already has a racial bonus. The new PC can later take this feat if he meets the prerequisite.

My character sheet can be found here:
http://www.myth-weavers.com/sheetview.php?sheetid=642470

I picked the Apotheosis story feat. Versatile Channeler so that I can heal myself and allies. Enough health and armor to go into melee, but I plan to focus on support and buffing.
