Custom Minifigures

Miniatures

Silver Crusade

I had been looking for the right minifigure for my character for an extended period of time and haven't been able to find anything that fits.

Can anyone provide suggestions for someone that does custom sculpts? I know I can get things printed from ShapeWays and other companies but I need someone to design the model to be printed.

Any advice for something affordable?

My reccomendation would be to look at Reaper Minis, they have a pretty good selection of a wide variety of sculpts, or go to coolminiornot.com and check out their shop.

Now that Reaper Miniatures just finished shipping their last consumer pledge, the new bones figures should be appearing on their online shop soon. The plastic is really easy to cut with just an Exact-O knife, so you might be able to create the character you are looking for by "getting your Frankenstein on".

It's probably easier to find someone who convert a miniature--alter an existing one by changing weapons or sculpting on different features--than someone who will custom sculpt from scratch. Or you can attempt this yourself. Probably best to ask around at local game stores, especially if there's a wargaming community around. Hard to find people who do custom sculpts freelance.

The other thing is to say what you're looking for here and see if we can help find a mini that suits, a lot of people have good mini search fu -- and we can also pick out minis that would be easy to convert into what you want if we can't find the exactly right figure.

Don't destroy OPs dream of printing minis! It's an obvious evolution in our hobby!

I agree with death quaker. Especially with the new reaper bones minis about to be available, that plastic is REALLY easy to convert if you need to.

If you're the creative type, just get some modding clay and make your own.

Thing is, I don't know how you'd design it without sculpting a prototype first. I guess using 3d graphics software?

I've also heard that printed minis like that aren't great quality (the example ones on their site have some weird jaggy bits). If you're going to go ahead and have something custom-made, it should be as good quality as you can get.

That said, if the OP wants to do it that way, that's fine, I just don't think many of us have ideas on how to go about it. I do conversions myself.

You would - of course - just create a 3d model. There are issues with 3d printing, but they are improving. You can also finish the model yourself and sand down any 'jaggy bits.'

One of my groups (my original group) uses LEGO pieces, they have such a vast multitude of pieces and different types, sizes, and colors, it's almost impossible to find or amalgamate a mini that suits your needs. There have also been a lot of great medieval, knights and dragons kind of sets from the past, as well as plenty of great fantasy sets in recent years, including but not limited to the LOTR sets, which you can ebay the individual characters from, rather than buy the whole sets. Local retailers in my area also have little "booster" sets that each have 1 figure in them, which can sometimes prove to be useful.

Also, LEGOs are cool.

Well, if you are able to create such a model for the OP, or know someone who can, then by all means, please let the OP know.

The reason why I am not suggesting such things is because I do not have the skill and know no one who does.

I am making suggestions based on the skills and knowledge that I do have. That is all I can do.

I fancy myself the creative type but after hours of attempts it's quite difficult to sculpt such a small piece and keep it on par with minis you'd find in Pathfinder Plastic boxes, let alone the metal miniatures. *shudder*

I've created a life-size Kobold before but I can't seem to manage this.
