Monk ki leech

Rules Questions

So as I was looking. Over the qingong monk archetype. Noticed the ki leech ability. It takes 0 ki points to use, and the archetype itself says that for abilities/spells with 0 ki points for usage, you don't need to have ki points to use it.

However, the actual ki leech spell requires you to have 1 ki point to even be able to absorb ki from another being and replenish ki.

So which is it? I can have 0 ki and use the ability to start gaining ki back? Or I must have 1 ki point left to use the SLA, otherwise I wait till I rest for 8 hours?

You can use it with 0 ki, it just doesn't do anything. It won't fill you from empty, but at least it doesn't cost any points to use. And if you use it from 0 ki it has a duration in minutes. If there were another way that you regained ki during the encounter then it would have a use. I don't ever play monks so I don't even know if that is possible.

I understand that it may be annoying, but that's the way it is written.

You need to have at least 1 ki point in your pool to be able to benefit from the spell (or in your case SLA).

I believe the reason for this is that if you have 0 ki points you have no ki and therefor can't use ki abilities, even those that don't cost ki to use. For example a monk must have at least 1 pt in their ki pool to make a ki strike even though a ki strike takes no ki to use.

Yep. What they said.

Hmm, seems like getting a monks zen mat, to try to regain ki might be best ki gainer initially. For just the 1 point, then use ki leech to get the rest of the ki. Ok seems like a work around.

Thank you for all your help.

Just remember Ki Leech only gives you Ki if you're the one who lands the hit reducing an opponent to 0 hp or fewer, or you confirm a critical on someone.

Good Luck Grizzly and Happy Pathfinding!
