I'm not sure it would fit as a "faction" in all the usual MMO ways (I'm not a PF lore guy either), but they're definitely a criminal group. However, because they are an actual family, I'm also not sure you could become one of them so much as maybe "work" for them.

How do you stop people from breaking laws? Assuming murder is outlawed, will the criminal flag be enough to kill them without breaking any laws yourself?

I certainly hope there is balance and a bit of common sense built into the system.

If I steal something, I hope there is a chance if getting caught, and being chased by PC enforcers or NPC wardens. What I hope it doesn't amount to is, "Hey everyone, its a free for all". What that would lead to is, instant death, and no one would commit crimes in a settlement anymore.

Perhaps GW can build the system within the faction system?

In EVE hisec (equivalent of settlement hexes) NPC authorites do attack and kill if and when a murder occurs but theft merely flags you as criminal and open to attack by other players.

Given that a good amount of the EVE population kill for the sheer fun of it (and collecting "killmails" is the main purpose in killing not monetary profit) being killed by the NPC authorities is not a deterrent at all. People will suicide gank any ship percieved as valuable or "shiney" just to get the killmail. A suicide gank is seen as a success if the total goods destroyed by you is greater than the total value of your own equipment destroyed by the NPC authorities. Incurring the wrath of Concorde guarantees death there is no escape and hence the culprits will often make a monetary loss. The indicator of "success" is that you destroyed more than you lost to the NPC authorities, even if you gained nothing back in loot.

As far as the criminal flag goes, it mainly serves as a way of tricking new players into being attackable. Cargo containers of valuable goods are left laying around in busy areas in the hope that an unwitting newer player will remove the contents, as once this occurs the newer player is attackable by all and sundry withut risk of NPC intervention.

Most suicide ganks are for profit. No, not all, some do use it to pad their killboard to seem like they can PVP.

So, how open is the Outlaw Council fog establishing a POI as our official, yet secret, meeting place?

Goblin Squad Member

I think its a good idea.

With the changes of the most recent Dev Blog, it may be more than likely that the Outlaw Council might be a faction that we can join.

If this is the case, then The UnNamed Company will have members in this faction, although it will not be required. I will of course, rise to the very top of this faction and wear the badge of the Outlaw Council with great pride.

Going to hve to wait to see where all the pieces fall before I will commit to an actual in game faction.

A council of outlaws? with self-congratulatory badges, sophomoric secret meeting places and the expressed intent, nay need, of discovering purpose?!

This will not do.

For the manner of your arrogance and your watered-down under-reaching of the responsibilities of evil, this collective incident and your individual names have been entered down into the Book of a Thousand Leaves.

You need to fact check the Pathfinder Guide for the River Kingdoms.

I think he was RP'ing as a "higher" evil, looking down on the others trying to "co-op" and comming "lesser evil" instead of being / doing what he thinks is the "true responsibilities" of evil. This is just what I got out of the post, but I could be completely off.

That is how I took it as well.

A while back I started a thread for creating a meta game Outlaw Council. The reason for this was obvious to me at the time, we as bandits and assassins are not the most well thought of. That is in a moral sense, not reflective of our skills / services being highly sought after.

Because of the ability to Ad Hoc in-game pretty easily and for character to belong to more than one persistent company, I think that this is quite doable.

Faction will likely play another role in all of us, being members of the same or multiple factions with similar goals. Red Mantis, Denizens of Echo Wood, or whatever... We will have common ground.

So yes, I am very interested in bringing all bandits and assassins together as one brotherhood under the banner of the Outlaw Council.

While this is entirely pretentious of me

1. [None]
2. World-Shaping Manipulation, Universal Oversight, and Basically going anywhere and everywhere I feel like making sure the balance of good, bad, and ugly is just so.
3. Letholdus Zael - No Proxy
4. Pacific Standard

If the Outlaw Council is going to be a player faction in PFO, then it will have its greatest hall built in the settlement of Aragon (CN).

All of the smaller companies that are dedicated to raiding, banditry, assassination and other activities associated with outlaws can find a home in this settlement.

Join Settlement: Aragon (CN)

We are still open for any who wish to join. Questions and requests to join are welcome here.

Disclaimer: While the UNC is a member of the Outlaw Council, and part of the Aragon leadership, joining the Outlaw Council AND/OR Aragon does not require membership with UNC. UNC is simply another company within the ranks of these 2 organizations.
