OK, I just finished watching this online. I liked it, although it is only occasionally as funny as the first two films. Don't get me wrong; there are some really funny moments in the film. But I think that by concentrating on gamer life more than actual gaming the film didn't lend itself as easily to the over-the-top antics that occasionally occurred.

That being said, there is some seriously great stuff here and an excellent film overall.

Liberty's Edge

1 person marked this as a favorite.

This was a drama with comedy in it, and the focus is on Cass and his continuing education on how not to be a jerk.

The plot weaves together the several worlds of the Gamers together nicely, something I expect to see more of in the extended cut and related products (Dangerous Games which features Leo for example).

And something that I'm surprised hasn't been posted yet, the movie!

Onward... TO WAFFLES!

Sovereign Court

Liked it not nearly as funny as 1 or 2, but I liked it. I like Cass at least Cass at the start don't like card games. But I have many reasons, he just feels card games are below him. Watch Cass grow as a person

I feel card games are below me, so I thought the first two were better :)

Sovereign Court

Cass: Furry's are people that LARP'rs Make fun of, LARP'rs are people that Gamer's make fun of
Natalie: And Gamer's are people, people make fun of

I watched the movie last night. My reaction is somewhere between "meh" and "heh".

I have no problem with the whole card game angle. I used to play Magic, in fact I even participated in Magic tournaments where I did great until I ran into a guy with a deck full of Black Lotuses and every Mox you could imagine. I still beat him one hand before losing the match.

While there were some funny moments, the movie had several things that were so difficult to accept that it made it hard to accept any sense of suspension of disbelief. The sub-plot involving the Pikachu clone crossed the line from hilarious exaggeration into disturbing psychopathy.

I will say that Natalie was damned cute.

Liberty's Edge

Oddly enough I've seen Garys with their fanboy rage, and it was pretty funny from my perspective.

"Rabbit season..."

To introduce another perspective, I've watchd it 3 times in the past week and I love it. People who were expecting something closer to the first two with the focus on tabletop games have a reason to be disappointed.

Now, The Gamers 4... THAT is going to be something.

This is what I was talking about above when I mentioned, "over-the-top antics." The Gary-fanboy rage storyline didn't work for me. It started ok, but rather quickly devolved into downright disturbing. It might of worked if I was watching an animated movie or TV show—South Park does this sort of demented stuff all the time to great effect—where exaggerated behaviour is easier to digest and accept. But in live action it crosses the suspension of disbelief line all too quickly.

Sadly, this storyline was seemingly set up entirely for comedic value. So one of the core bits of comedy in the movie was diluted and the film became more comedic-drama than comedy.

Still really liked it, especially Cass's character development.

Completely agree! :)
