How do I report success on missions A / B / C / D for early seaons games?

Had my first experience with the updated reporting today. I ran 01-29, from season 1.

I wasn't sure what to check off for mission success. I'm guessing that this will become clearer in the next week or two when the secondary missions are released for all of the earlier season games.

In the mean time, what should we check off?

I assumed that success condition "A" was success for the primary mission, and ignored all the others.

I'm still a little uncertain how to report the A B C D thing for season 5, let alone the older seasons.

the PFS Guide v5.0 states there is a supplemental document with the secondary success conditions (p32, paizo.com/pathfinderSociety/pfsproducts/pfsFreeProducts), but it does not appear in the Free Products area that is referenced.

We probably will not see the document until later this month since GenCon is over and the usual catching up period will have to take place before we see the document,

In the meantime, how are we supposed to run PFS? My store runs PFS games every Tuesday and Wednesday, and at present I'm not sure how to have GMs award prestige for games as impending as tomorrow, let alone how I should report them.

This thread here has a post from John Compton that indicates how to award prestige for scenarios prior to this season.

On the checkbox question for older scenarios, I would like to know that answer as well. My guess would be A=Primary and B=secondary missions and the other two are ignored but I am as much in the dark on that one as everyone else. Sorry I couldn't be of better help.

I don't think that's actually it either, as scenario 5-02 doesn't have instructions about ABCD at all. I expect once everyone gets back and starts through the backlog of messages, this will get processed. It's possible the "Primary mission success" box disappearing was an accident.

Can we get an answer on this?

I ran 5-01 last night and it was very clear about whether you should check A or B, depending on PC actions.

The season 5 success conditions are clearly outlined in each scenario. They can be found in the conclusion section of each module. I believe that for earlier than season 5 scenarios the check boxes do not matter as they do not affect the overall season stuff.

Just finished running 5-02 tonight. Definitely nothing in the scenario detailing the A/B/C/D check boxes written.

I wasn't able to find this in #5-02 in regards to the ABCD boxes.

I thought I read somewhere that as an interim measure the first prestige point was awarded for completing 3 encounters (1 XP) and the second prestige point was awarded for completing the mission. So wouldn't that be A and B?

Scenario #5-01 is very clear what to do about filling in the A & B boxes, and it's nothing to do with the primary/secondary success conditions.

If a scenario doesn't mention those boxes (like all season 0-4 scenarios) then I believe they're irrelevant.

Success in the primary/secondary missions should be evident from the number of prestige points earned by the PCs.

Sczarni 4/5

I checked A & B for season 1. Not sure also if it's right.

Regarding prestige, here is the official response from John Compton: Link.

John answered in another thread that 5-02 intentionally doesn't call out ABCD because it's not relevant there. No boxes need to be checked.

Ah, OK, so that would suggest to me that for season 0-4 games, we shouldn't be checking anything.

But, also, probably, it doesn't matter. The data is meaningless there, so nobody will look at it.

Is this the same case with "5-14 Day of the Demon"?

Grand Lodge

Seems that way. They've started designing the scenarios to include a paragraph near the last page labeled as "reporting notes", that way it calls it out in the scenario what boxes you need to check.

I just looked at that scenario and didn't see any notes about how to use the ABCD boxes.

I would assume so, since it was really a season 4 scenario that just got released to the general public in season 5. It doesn't have anything to adjust the current year's storyline.

Yes, tick the boxes the scenario instructs you to, and only those boxes. If the scenario doesn't mention them, then no boxes need ticking.

Grand Lodge

I'll second what Paz says. In the interview with John Compton, he was saying that some people ticked boxes that weren't even called out in the scenario, which causes him to question the validity of the ones that needed to be checked.

I'm betting its due to scenarios like this. The boxes are there but no explanation on them. They should have had added one sentence "Boxes A, B, C, D are not used in this scenario; please ignore."

Or a disclaimer on the web site next to the boxes, ie "Don't check boxes A, B, C, or D unless specifically instructed to by the scenario."

If they really wanted to get fancy with it, they could make those boxes only appear on the screen when logging a session for a scenario that uses them, but I know their web developers have more important things to do.
