Ya know, that's really a trick that you should be able to take multiple times...
Well, that's why we're making a martial rogue archetype for PoW2.

Pathfinder kidna went there already with the Slayer. Full BAB, 6+Int Skills, 6/9ths sneak attack.
That said, even it only has combat trick once :|
It'll be interesting to see it!

I know nothing about slayer, I stopped keeping an eye on the playtests for that book a while ago. That being said, the martial rogue will be a thing still, but not as expansive as a full class. Just a simple archetype.

I for one would love to see a martial rogue archetype. Keep up the cool ErrantX.

Chris, just to let you know... having actually (finally) read everything word-for-word, I'm impressed by the creativity. We can all sit and critique another person's work, and we can all armchair design material, but you pulled it all together and made a coherent book. I liked the themes more than ToB. The disciples were clearly different, which is great.
So hey. Great job.

Uh oh, you've got Path of War PTSD, we need to expose you to some new terminology ASAP!
...
I think Akashic Mysteries could probably stand a read-through....
:)
Also, touch bases with me when you get the chance, several of those animal-themed veils you sent me that didn't make the cut for this book might be fun to tie in to PrC's and supplemental material in the follow-up I'm starting to work on.
Speaking of that follow up.... Jade (aka Prince of Stabby Things) has been giving me some tips and assistance with our akashic/initiator hybrid class the Pharaoh. In exchange for review and community involvement, I opened this one up for live development over in the Akashic Mysteries thread, and I'm planning on having the Empty Pyramid discipline added to the document by Monday of next week, if not sooner. Anyone not familiar with it already should be aware that this is a live, unfinished, pre-alpha release that I posted up specifically to say "Thank you, you're all awesome, have a look under the hood at this cool new thing that's been added to the pipeline and take a moment to contribute your insight on what you'd like to see it become!"
Note that I was planning on the class being an advanced class of the Warlord and Vizier initially and gave him the Warlord's Scarlet Throne, but there's a really, really good chance that that will be exchanged for the new lance/spear-based discipline whenever it's ready, both for thematic reasons, and because the Pharaoh is really evolving into its own stand-alone class and I don't want Chris hunting me down for breaking the standard he established with each class getting its own proprietary discipline.

I'll kick up production on the pole arm discipline then. That'll take me less time to mess with then my current work on Mystic. I'm going to try to buckle down and get that into a working alpha within the next two weeks, complete with Elemental Flux.

Sweet!
Man, there's way too much cool stuff in the pipeline. I'm trying really hard to not be too busy writing for Pathfinder to play Pathfinder, but I still feel like there's 5 things I want to play for every 1 thing I actually get to, even counting playtests and one-offs ;P

I believe Jeremy either just finished or is actively finishing layout on the Vizier for a product release of "literally any time now".

Why, thank you. As it happens - and I'm pretty sure Jeremy noticed this - my final edit was a tongue-in-cheek observation that the credits page lacked any reference to me. Mostly a joke, but a hint that I'd be tickled pink to be included.

Piercing Lance: The discipline of Piercing Lance finds its roots in early skirmishes between mounted hunters, riding on barely tamed horses and wielding crude spears into battle, both in the saddle and on foot. The discipline of the dragoon, Piercing Lance teaches its practitioners to ride hard into battle with powerful mounted charges, and then fight equally well from mount-back or on foot. By teaching its followers to use every part of their hafted weapons and their mounts, disciples of this discipline are inventive and courageous, dauntless in the face of danger. Armed with the skills of countless battles that came before him and the training with the weapons of the mounted combatant, the highly specialized Piercing Lance’s associated skill is Ride and its associated weapon groups are polearms and spears.
Piercing Lance discipline is now available for playtest and critique! Please let us know how you like it and any potential pitfalls that can be found with it!

That is perfect for replacing Scarlet Throne on the Pharaoh. And combined with Solar Wind it actually kind of makes the javelin a really badass weapon.

Broze Lancet Charge specifically references "the mounted disciple". Is this ability only useable while mounted? If so, is there any reason why it has to be done while mounted?
Just a thought, but it seems like the "increases to 1d8 if used with a discipline weapon" could be better if it said "increases to 1d8 if used with a discipline weapon while mounted" and remove the initial mounted requirement. That way any initiator benefits from it, but an initiator using it mounted with a polearm or spear gets more oomph.

Love it, but omg it really needs a new name!
If I ever get desperate for cash (and have enough free time to work out regularly again) my porn name is going to be Lance Pearcing.
....
Seriously though, ID is not wrong about the need for a new name.
EDIT: I like Impaling Comet, Piercing Thunder, Crashing Lightning, Lunging Serpent, and Greased Lightning.
The last one may not be as valid a suggestion as the others.
Insain Dragoon |
Thrusting techniques are often paired thematically with lightning strikes. Visuals like lightning bolts in the backround are also very common for such techniques.
The sounds of Horses running is also often recounted as similar to Thunder.
Because of that I feel that a theme for the name revolving around thunder, lightning, storms, ect would be appropriate.
Steel Hurricane
Iron Storm
Steel Thunder/lightning
Piercing Gale
Dancing Lightning
Brainstorm! :)

I prefer the Thunder references to the Lightning references. Steel Lightning (once I get past the way it makes me think of Blue Steel from Zoolander) or Dancing Lightning would be good names for a spear-based discipline but fail to capture the mounted aspect of the discipline.
....
I've got it guys. "Horse Powered Perforation". Or my original pitch "The Wet Sound of Bursting Meat and Crushed Eggs The Bodies of My Foes Make".
In all seriousness, I think Piercing Thunder is the legitimate leader in names. It doesn't evoke porn or comedy, and it implies all the elements of the actual discipline.
Thundering Bore? Drilling Gale? Impaling Storm? Gungnir's Crash?

Would it be possible to get an ETA on when the compiled version of Path of War 1 will be available?
I know people who bought the subscription here on Paizo already have it. You can still purchase it under the "Path of War Work in Progress" .pdf
It has everything that's been put out, the only changes will be minor grammar and formatting edits that were being reviewed prior to going to print.Namaru |

I probably should have been more specific, but I was wondering when other sites such as DriveThruRPG would have it available since that was where I got my subscription.
