Ibnatus Level 9 all rogue, tier 10-11 hard mode. Twas my rapier that dealt the blow to strike him dead.
This just proves rogues are OP; yours killed Krune. /joke
Actually I'm really happy for you, and not in the sarcastic way. Rogues are pretty cool; ours was vital in taking down Krune. She dispelled two of his most impressive spells and boxed Krune into a corner. It's good to see another rogue out there, kicking butt, especially kicking Krune's old, saggy, butt.

More importantly, you also dealt him massive amounts of damage with an awesome plan (that I won't mention here in case people read this who shouldn't) to get rid of the Life Runes that we had no other way to remove!

Also curious. I enjoy creative solutions, and want anyone I run through Waking Rune to have the best chance to succeed.
Well my reason for not posting it is I want the idea to remain special--rather than sort of passing around the community through whispers and becoming common. I'm almost certainly misunderstanding your post here, but are you saying you would tell your players about it if I told you?

Not at all. I just want to know about it before hand, so that if the rogue mentions it, I'd be willing to say "sure, that's awesome!" instead of "are you sure that works?".
Oh, OK. That makes sense. See I knew I was wrong! I could tell from your other posts that it didn't seem like something you would possibly do.

3 people marked this as a favorite. |

I present 6 mighty adventurers who bested the Waking Rune hard mode.
Nailo Tealeaf, the undefeated alchemist.
Tsemichla Tal'Nar, elven alchemist extraordinaire.
Varric Chaoswielder, The Righteousness of Iomedae.
Henric, humble servent of the Dawnflower.
Ahote Takoda, Warrior of Tamiir-Quah
Cyax the Horselord.
Despite the chalange put before these 6 they were able to overcome a 7 hour battle of wills and end the Runelord of Sloth.
Congratulations

I am replaying this the second I get my first GM replay. A while back I played it in normal mode tier 7-8 on my level 8 draconic sorcerer. We had a three person group so we brought along Seelah (actually surprisingly useful). None of us were particularly optimized, so damage was a little troublesome,Seelah basically carried us through the first fight while I tried to counterspell, but we fought the BBEG at his weakest and managed to get him down. My mobility buffs saved the party several times over from various mooks, and I even went toe to toe with a runelord for several rounds, walled off from the rest of the party. I, a 26 cha sorcerer, was down to first level slots for the killing blow via magic missile by the end. Nevertheless, it was my finest hour for my sorcerer, and I think that it would be fitting for tier 10-11 hard mode to be my optimized gunslinger RC-1207's last scenario before retirement.

I must raise this thread to brag about the accomplishments of six brave Pathfinders in defeating the Runelord, Krune.
10-11 Hardmode. 2 Clerics, a wizard, a sorcerer, a summoner, and an archer fighter.
My biggest contributions were negative channeling with the other cleric to disable the runes of life and death and hitting Krune with 2 harms in the first round (thanks to a metamagic gem of quicken).
We were very well prepared for facing a high level conjurer and nobody died. I can certainly see how this scenario can be deadly to a ill-prepared group or a random group at a con.

One Roasted Runelord. Cooked to Order.
This Runelord was lovingly tenderized by a god-mocking cross between a cat, a lizard, and a cartoon. Point seared by rays, and braised on a skewer of arrows, he was then served chilled with a heaping side of expended scroll ashes and potion bottles.
The Cerberi enjoyed it very much. Three dog heads is a lot to feed.

Though the use of +70 bluff checks, several charm monster spells, and the False Casting feat to pretend to be a cleric of Lissala my sorcerer Alexander Droven managed to control and dupe the Hearld into attacking Kurne. Intelligence drain crit on a wizard is a terrible sight to behold. Especially when they start losing spell slots like Wish.

Our group didn't do Hard Mode, so we just... crushed it. Krune was just a chase scene for my hasted, flying, mirror-imaged Magus. I'd spend two rounds flying around his sanctum until I could charge-attack him for a bunch of damage, then he'd disappear and I'd waste another two rounds hunting him down again.
I'm currently preparing to GM it on Hard Mode for a group, and while I am rooting for them, I am going to do my best to kill every last one.
