So what's the damage so far? [Steam]

How much has your wallet endured for this year's Steam Summer Sale?

My current toll contemplates:

-The Spiderweb Software Pack (which includes the whole of the Avernum and Geneforge series, as well as Nethergate: Resurrection and Avadon: The Black Fortress).

-The Tropico 4 Complete Bundle (which includes all DLCs).

-The Old Gods expansion for Crusader Kings II.

So that's about 35 USD in total. Pretty nice deals, I have to say.

What's your damage count so far?

I think all I've bought was Baldur's Gate and Final Fantasy VII. Around $15 total I think.

I got Monkey Island and Monkey Island II for free as birthday gifts though, as well.

How's the enhanced version? The two BGs are my favourite RPGs of all time.

Orthos wrote:

Awesome gift! Just remembering those games brings tears to me eyes.

Ever played the one about Indiana Jones & the Fate of Atlantis?

Afraid not. And I haven't gotten to sit down and play BG yet, or FF for that matter. Between work, Pathfinder, and writing, I just haven't had the time lately.

X-Com, Ys I and II Chronicles, and Star Drive for myself. Supreme Commander 2 for a friend. Giving me a rough total of $30 spent.

I would recommend against purchasing Star Drive, the game is still in dire, dire need of patching, updating, and something to kill the early game drag. First and second time I played, I started up a few things and walked away from my computer for a few hours so I would have something to do.

The Exchange

Kerbal Space Program
Dishonored + DLC
Borderlands 2 + Season Pass
Terraria

I wasn't paying attention to values and am too lazy to check, but it's probably not much.

In previous sales I used to spend massive amounts, mostly because I'd buy all of the publisher packs not looking at what was in them... so naturally have a bucket load of games that I've never even looked at on my list still.

Scarab Sages

Too much...
- Devil may Cry Bundle
- Serious Sam Legend of the Beast DLC
- Desperado 2
- All Anno 2070 DLC
- Edna & Harvey
- Mortal Combat Arcade Collection
- Secret Files 1+2

I still got a €50 paysafe card wit 'Steamsale' printed on it...so more to come.

Scarab Sages

Zero.

I don't impulse buy video games.

The games I do own on Steam are Civilization and BlooBowl. Steam support was not a relevant factor for either purchase.

Batman Arkham Asylum and City GOTY edition together for around 13 bucks.

I'm as happy as a puppy with three peters.

-MD

Saint's Row 2, 3, Mass Effect Collection, Deus Ex Collection, Fallout 3 (gifted), Dragon Age: Origins Ultimate Edition... probably a few more that I'm forgetting...

Shadow Lodge

Please don't ask me how much. It's a lot. :|

But...just....one....more....

So far I got these games that I really wanted on sale:

Deus Ex Collection
Orcs Must Die! Franchise Pack
Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas with all DLC
Torchlight 2

And I got these games because they looked vaguely interesting and they were dirt cheap.

Half Life 1 Anthology
Star Wolves
Two Worlds Epic Edition
Hard Reset Extended Edition
Patricians and Merchants/The Great Art Race/DarkStar One Combo
Clive Barker's Jericho

So far I've spent $45.

This Steam sale is actually the most lackluster one I've seen. This new trading card gimmick they've got going is mildly interesting but not really a money saver. One of my capitalist wheeler-dealer friends was able to make 10 bucks selling the new trading cards, but I have neither the time nor the inclination to try it myself...

By comparison, the last Steam sale had some really killer deals with the developer franchise packs. When THQ went out of business and sold all their AAA titles for pennies on the dollar -- that was pretty much the pinnacle of awesomeness for me (probably not so awesome for THQ).

I hope this lackluster sale is not a sign of things to come, sort of like how Amazon.com used to always have good deals, but then after they solidified their consumer base the deals gradually went away and now you've got to look pretty hard for deals there -- could Steam be going through a similar transformation? They've got about a 70% share of the market for digital games downloads and they've been able to keep it for a few years now...

Tomb Raider 2013
Dishonored w/DLCs
Walking Dead w/DLCs

and I gifted Skyrim Legendary.

About $80. Nothing else interests me.

I missed the Crusader Kings 2: Old Gods sale, otherwise I would have grabbed it.

I did pick up Eador, very much enjoying it, though the campaign is wrecking me so far.

I hear you, but you can save a bit of money if there are games you want to buy and wait for sales. Eador has been out just a couple months, but I got it 1/2 off. A lot of Steam sales are in the range of 50-75% off. Waiting on sales, instead of paying $60 for a new game, I can usually pick up anywhere from 4-12 games. It lets me try games I might not have bothered with for as little as $2-3.

Oh, I forgot, I grabbed Organ Trail and Universe Sandbox, each for about $2.50. I haven't downloaded the sandbox yet, but Organ Trail is a blast (I've already wasted 8+ hours on it).

Total damage is approximately $30, going on $40 after I buy Dark Souls. I'm restraining myself form GenCon... I've had to pass up a few good games.

Purchased:
Showdown Effect
Dragonborn DLC for Skyrim aka Lovecraft DLC
Scribblenauts Unlimited
Just Cause 2
Audiosurf
DLC Quest (Awesome game, btw)

Silver Crusade

Oh my, FF VII on Steam? Somehow this escaped me. Must check when I get home tonight.

So far, just Sleeping Dogs and Mark of the Ninja. I've been pretty vigilant about following various Indie Bundles this year (oh my god I have so much Spiderweb Software to play), and I buy AAA games on release, so most of the sales are low-scoring games I'm not interested in, or games I already have in my library. Now if I could just get around to playing them...

Age of Empires II HD Edition
Another World: 20th Annniversary Edition
Crusader Kings II: The Republic and Sword of Islam
Dark Souls
Galactic Civilizations II Gold Edition
Grand Ages: Rome
Metro: Last Light
System Shock 2

Not as bad as previous years.

So far I've got Fallen Enchantress and Skyrim: Dragonborn, two things I've been planning on getting for awhile, just waiting for them to go on sale, so I can hardly call them "impulse buys."

(Dragonborn might go on even more sale but I wasn't counting on it so I just got it while I was remembering to check the sale and saw that it was discounted.)

If Civ V: Brave New World goes on sale I might get that... and I might get it anyway full MSRP, it looks really good.

Scarab Sages

- XCom Complete Pack (the old games)
- Aztaka
- Winter Voices (all of them)
- Prototype 2 DLC

I kinda missed the sale, so no damage!

I heard a lot about a discount on The Secret World, but I didn't realize it was part of a larger summer sale.

Xzaral wrote:

Yep. I'm kind of hoping that if it sells well Square might release the other older FFs (not just VIII and IX but hopefully also I-VI) on Steam as well. And heck, maybe other series like Chrono and Mana.

At the very least I would be surprised if VIII didn't come soon, as it and VII were released on PC way back when already, and should take the least work to convert to Steam standards I'd think.

- Saints row 3 + DLC $13
- Strike suit infinity $1.75
- Legend of Grimrock $5
- Deus Ex human revolution $3.75
- Orcs Must Die 2 $5
- OT: directors cut 2$~ish
- deadlight $5

So I'm at $34.50 and im sure to spend at least 10 more. I love these sales allows me to get games that I wouldn't take a chance on at $20+ each for less than 10.

I made a rule for this summer sale: nothing over twenty USD -- this is mainly to prevent me from wasting money on Sims 3. Regardless...

If you haven't played Aztaka, spend the little money to get it now - there aren't many side scrolling action RPGs (DUST is the other one I know of) on PC and the background in Aztec mythology makes it completely awesome!

If y'all haven't tried Evoland, you should (especially if you like adventuring/RPG style games).

I'll let you know, it's in the process of downloading (or was when I went to work this morning).

One of the devs is the guy behind the old Fall from Heaven Civ IV mods, so I have relatively high hopes.

Sigh. Fell victim again to Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition for 75% off and Magicka collection.

Looking forward to your review! I played Elemental: War of Magic and it was terrible.

Well, one more person has bought VII at least to help that along. I'm honestly not a big fan of VIII (my least favorite of the series), but I wouldn't mind nabbing it too to help encourage them on. IV was my personal favorite, so a Steam release would make me happy there.

So far I've picked up Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Skyward Collapse, RPG Maker, Saints Row 3, Monaco, Two Worlds 2 and Toki Tori 2 (mainly for my nephew who loved playing the first one with me). I got Skyward Collapse and Monaco on impulse since the sale got me looking at them and they both sound pretty fun, but the others I'd been planning to get when I saw them on sale.

Most of my purchases lately though seem to be for the hypothetical other me who actually gets around to playing the games I think look good. I hope he's having fun, because the actual me just seems to end up playing games on his phone or iPad!

I picked up Evoland at the GOG sale a week or so ago. Haven't had a chance to try it out yet, but hopefully I will this weekend. I really like the idea of it at least, so looking forward to checking it out.

Add all the Skyrim DLCs just two minutes ago. Total so far $103 :/

The three SNES ones are my favorites, with IX tied with them. VIII I actually haven't managed to finish.

But yes, if it comes out I'll probably snag it - both to support more coming out, and because I would like to actually finish it for once >_>

The Exchange

I only buy games in the summer sales since I found out about them last year. So much cheaper buying the games any other time doesn't make sense. I'm patient. I can wait.

So far:
1)walking dead
2) xcom
3) dishonored
4) fallout 3 (a bit late on that one :P)
5) and my young brother got hitman: absolution

Not bad at all. Couple with Pathfinder, MTG, DotA 2, keeping tabs with my favorite shows, studying my a*# off at the university, and actually living and/or sleeping for a bit in between, these should handily suffice until next year, when I get Bioshock infinite and all sorts of other good stuff. These are not impulse purchases, they are planned way ahead:)

also - as someone who never played the Baldur's Gate series, is it gonna hold up for a modern player like me? or will the old graphics, uncomfortable interface and general age of the game will make it suffer so much? I hear it's awesome but I know nostalgia is one powerful force of attraction, so...

Sovereign Court

Bastion, System Shock 2 and Torchlight 2. Damn disappointing sale, all things considered. It just feels like a mundane sale, rather than the insanity of previous events.

Regarding Baldur's Gate EE, I'd say it depends on if you played older RPGs from the 90s, or if you've ever played AD&D. If you have, then you'd be fine. If not.. well, then you might be in for a difficult time. That's further exacerbated by the fact that BG1 is distinctly inferior to BG2, which I'd put right up there as one of the finest RPGs ever made.

Liberty's Edge

- Bad Company 2
- Borderlands 2 with Vault Master and Tiny Tina's Dragon Assault DLC or whatever it's called!
- Legend of Grimrock
- Torchlight 2

$5. I picked up a copy of Eve for giggles, on the off chance I decide to play around with it at some point in the next year. Tempted by Tomb Raider.

Add to my list:

-Starforge
-Majesty 2 Collection

Alright, they tagged me for another $31 today. Civ 5 Gold Edition, Tomb Raider Survival Edition, and Fallout New Vegas Gold Edition.

Bastards.

Unfortunately, I don't think you'll see any others than VII and VIII. Both of them had PC releases when they were first created. Whilst it may be possible to rig up some sort of emulation to convert the older games, IX and onwards will take some hefy work to be made compatible with the PC which I don't see happening.

VIII should appear at some point, but I think that's it for FF on the PC (apart from the MMORPGs, of course).

I succumbed to Worms Revolution and Fallout: New Vegas.

Around 50 Euros this time.

- Company of Heroes (2.75€)
- Crusader Kings II (9.99€)
- The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing (7.50€)
- Mark of the Ninja (4.99€)
- Napoleon: Total War (3.75€)
- Torchlight II (4.99€)
- Warlock: Master of the Arcane (9.99€)
- Borderlands 2: Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragons Keep (3,75€)

And a bunch of other stuff from the GOG sale a few weeks ago, but which came to only about 15-20€.

And just yesterday Total War: Rome 2 ( for a pretty good deal, not from Steam, but 31.99€ for the digital Steam download, key will be delivered on release ).

And the Pathfinder Card Game, which amazingly is only 29.99 pounds on Amazon.co.uk.

I had my birthday yesterday, don't judge me for being a bit too easy with my money. :p

There's like no good RPG out there which I have not already played or even want to play. :-/ My only hope is that Dragon Age 3 will be good.

That is a really solid haul. Easily hundreds of hours of quality entertainment there.

Yeah, it's to the point where I am reluctant to even begin one of the games, because I know that it will be a large time commitment. :p But I had my eyes on all of those games for a long time, but the price just wasn't right until now.

Now Company of Heroes 2 and Civ 5: Brave New World just need to get down to a decent price. Oh, well, Summer Sale 2014, I guess. ^^

Oh, and it seems that Space Rangers 2 HD will be out soon in English. Yay! :D

Scarab Sages

- Silent Hunter®: Wolves of the Pacific
- Silent Hunter®: Wolves of the Pacific U-Boat Missions
- Secret Files 3
- The Whispered World
- World in Conflict: Complete Edition
- The Settlers®: Heritage of Kings
- The Settlers®: Rise Of An Empire Gold Edition

Since no new top-sales are coming, I chose a few titles from my wishlist (most of the earlier sales came from that list, too, so no really 'impulse purchases' except for Mortal Combat and Winter Voices.)
