Advice to Testers; or "How do I do ... ?"

Hello everyone. I thought it might be a nice idea to start a thread where we can share advice and ask questions about do stuff in Gamespace.

My first bit of advice is to maximize your Gamespace window so that you can make the most use of being able to drag the two panes around and have plenty of room for your map.

My first question is how do I close a scene I have created? I would think that minimizing the number of scenes I have active would be helpful to Paizo's servers, but I haven't been able to figure out how to "close" them. Additionally, I haven't found any way to remove (delete) a token when I am done using it. I suppose you could just rename it and change the token, but if you prepped everything before hand, you might want to delete it so it doesn't become clutter.

Anyway, if you have an answer to my question, or one of your own, post it here along with any neat tricks you have figured out.

Definitely maximize. We tried to make sure you can use as much space as is available.

Closing a scene currently takes you to the login screen. You can find it on your players tab. Not sure if that's the best place for it but we're trying to keep clutter to a minimum and that served our goal.

There is currently no way to remove tokens. I think it would useful to both hide(I'm finished with you for now and don't need to have to scroll through you) and delete(I made a mistake or I will never need this token again) and a reset(bring all tokens to their original placement and visibility).

Thanks for the response Lissa.

With regard to the question about closing a scene, I had meant when the GM is done with it, how does one remove the scene from the login screen? Or maybe if you accidentally created a duplicate scene (ie a new URL).

I did notice the "leave room" button on the bottom of the players "main" window, but haven't seen anything like this for the GM. I will have to take another look at the players tab as you mentioned.

Yeah, I spent quite a bit of time looking for how to delete a token. Definitely something that should be added.

In preparing to run the Beginner's Box adventure I have added a lot of dice macros, but don't seem to be able to add any to the groups?

I open the groups tab and then click on the rolls icon, it opens the side panel and I then click on edit which brings up a "New Dice Macro" button. Clicking on the new dice macro button causes the save and cancel buttons to appear, but not a dice macro entry window. Is something broken or do I need to add macros before assigning tokens to the group?

It looks like that's broken. I'll check it out to see what I can find.

So I learned an important lesson. In one of your own scenes, don't deselect yourself as an active player and then log out. You lose access to the scene. I lost about 2 hours of work adding tokens and dice macros!

Guh. Yeah, don't do that. It should probably always show your scenes despite that and you probably shouldn't be able to unselect yourself as the creator. I'll try to remember to put a bug report in for that on monday. If you have the play address, you should be able to login to it fine, but without that, there really isn't another way in.

But don't you see, you have found exactly what I was looking for a few weeks ago. This is how to clear away a mistaken/no longer needed scene/map. Now I realize it won't remove it from the server, but I am sure there is a way to have the server goblins delete any scenes that have no active players.

This is actually a good thing, but like all powers you have to be careful when you use them.

Are you able to grant someone else GM privileges? If so, that'd be one way to transfer GMship.

Sczarni Game Space Beta Tester

Yes, transferring GM is possible, it is done on the same panel as indicating active player.

Unfortunately I don't think I saved the link to the scene. Oh well, that's why the call it testing right? I had no reason to deselect myself as active except to "see what it would do" anyway. Now I know! :)

Does it show up in your browser history then you might have a link to it.

Nice call. I was able to find the correct link in my browser history.

Thanks!
