Mass Daze Clarification

Rules Questions

Okay, so I may be completely failing at reading the rules here, but Daze, Mass is confusing me a bit. Specifically I'm trying to figure out what limits, if any, there are to who can be dazed.

PRD says wrote:

DAZE, MASS

School enchantment (compulsion) [mind-affecting]; Level bard 4, inquisitor 4, sorcerer/wizard 4, summoner 4, witch 4
Components V, S
Range medium (100 ft. + 10 ft./level)
Targets one or more humanoid creatures, no two of which may be more than 30 ft. apart
This spell functions as daze, except as noted above.

So does the lack of any reference to HD in the Target line lift that restriction on the spell, or does it still apply, as per the body text of the original Daze spell?

Thank you very much for your help.

It still applies.

Mass Daze is a horrible spell. Fortunately, there are many good spells to take instead.

I am gonna commit thread necromancy here as I am pretty sure stream is wrong here. Would love someone else to weigh in. It seems pretty clear to me that the only changes are those noted above and one of the changes is the removal of the 4HD line.

The 4HD rule is in the body of the Daze spell text, which is not changed, so it still applies. Mass Daze is a horrible spell unless they errata it. As was said before, however, there are plenty of better spells anyway, so who cares?

Even if its determined that the HD limit does not apply to Mass Daze, its still a weak spell as its duration remains 1 round. Compared to other spells of the same level or lower and it would still be an underpowered choice. Off the top of my head, Confusion and Fear are the same level for several of those classes (both are lower for the bard actually) and have longer lasting and more devastating effects.

I would say the HD limit does not apply.

Mass Daze says "functions as Daze, except as noted above."

Comparing the spells, Daze has Target: One humanoid of 4 HD or less

Mass Daze has Target: One or more humanoid creatures, no two of which may be more than 30 feet apart

Since the HD limit is not found in the Target entry for Mass Daze, I don't think it applies.

However, as noted by others, it still isn't the most effective spell as it is Enchantment (compulsion, mind affecting) which lots of things are immune/resistant to, and retaining the one round duration.

I agree with Samasboy1.
