Aldern's Return?

A wise man once said "never give the GM ideas." My players have not learned that lesson yet so I thought I'd bounce ideas off of you guys.

You see, the group just ended Aldern. Then they chopped off his head (and then the guy who was "mimicked" urinated on the corpse). But the player recently asked me "is he going to come back?" and it got me thinking.

Here you have the empowered (if dead) body of someone corrupted by Vorel Foxglove's phage. It's been left decapitated in the same room as the moldy incarnation of Vorel. And the mold was hit by a blast of holy power (channel energy) so whatever is left of Vorel probably realizes that the PCs will likely be back eventually to finish the job.

So why not possess the body and leave?

What form do you think this remade undead would take? And what do you think it would do to try and get revenge on the party?

A headless horseman that terrorizes Sandpoint until the PCs come and deal with him?

Seriously though, I don't know...but I like the idea of possessing the body and leaving to torment them again later.

If nothing else, have the possession happen but be open ended with where he went to the current group of characters (i.e. they don't know). If you run the same players through another campaign that brings them to Sandpoint, the body could make a return appearance...the players would get it even if their character's didn't.

Grand Lodge

My thought exactly... Dulhallan Aldern! >.<

I have had similar thoughts, should the players choose to continue the campaign once they finish it. I was thinking of having Vorel possess Aldern's body, and go about completing the ritual to become a lich. Haven't figured out where to go from there yet, though.
