This made me think. If a player plays a level 7 pregen at, say, tier 5-6, they wouldn't get the chronicle until their character is level 7. Could someone play a level 7 pregen at f.ex. tier 3-4 or 4-5 (assuming the scenario has a tier range wide enough for the pregen) and simply not receive the chronicle until their character reaches level 7, as stated in the pregen play rules?

They COULD I suppose, but it shouldn't ever happen. If your table is in a subtier 3-4 or 4-5, you really have no reason to NOT play a level 4 pregen, as that fits closest to the subtier the table is playing at.

A player cannot use a level 7 pre-gen in a 4-5 game. The Pre-gen used must be "level-appropriate." In a 4-5 game, that would be a level 4 pre-gen.
If you don’t have time to create a new character or simply wish to try out a new character class, you may choose to use one of several level-appropriate pregenerated characters available at paizo.com/pathfindersociety or from your local event coordinator.

I beleave Rei did say "(assuming the scenario has a tier range wide enough for the pregen)"... so it should be possible to play a 7th level pre-gen in a sub-tier 3-4 game, if the scenario was Tier 1-7.

Yeah, and there's a subtier 4-5 in the tier 1-12 specials.
It shouldn't happen. But, say the organizer only had 1st and 7th pregens left or available, it could, maybe, possibly, by sheer dumb luck fall into happening is what I was saying.
The first choice in those subtiers though, should definitely be the 4th level pregens.

I have seen a group of players (5 of them) with one player going to play a pre-gen, when they were "in the gap", select a 7th level pre-gen to pull the APL up to the higher sub-tier. Also because the felt the Generics were so underpowered that the 7th lvl one was on par with thier PCs.
Not that I would suggest this, but I have seen it done.

Level appropriate for a 3-4 or a 4-5 game is a level 4 pre-gen since it falls within the appropriate sub-tier. While possible, its is not appropriate, therefore not allowed.

I beleave the 7th level Generic would be level appropriate for a Tier 1-7 game... and sub-tier is not calculated until after PCs are selected. Thus, a 7th level generic character would be a "level-appropriate pregenerated character". Esp. because the sub-tier is not calculated until after the character is selected...
Many times I have switched PCs selected before a game, to shift the APL slightly, or to better match the sub-tier of the game. (It's that I hate playing up. If a game is going to land in a higher sub-tier than my PC is, I will normally switch PCs to one that better fits.)
