Any plans on including the different government types or the alignment factors for individual cities?

Pathfinder Adventure Path, Lost Omens, Rulebook, Starfinder Roleplaying Game Subscriber

Short answer: yes.

Long answer: yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeees.

Long (serious) answer: yes, as well as temple alignments, too. The hard part is figuring out how to do it all without breaking the sheet for the people who don't want to use those variant rules and prefer to just stick to core. That's why I'm currently working on "quick wins" or "low-hanging fruit" (sorry for the corporate-speak) such as Diplomatic Edicts and Trade Edicts, which simply require the user to ignore the sheets they're on if they don't want to use them.

Oh, and I noticed that I broke Armies in the last update (oops), and my collaborator kridak has sent me a couple of extra "nice to have" sheets that I'll be putting in an update later today. If I can squeeze it in, I'll throw in the Trade Edicts sheet, too - just need to work through a couple of tricky IF formulae and make it look pretty. I'm including the Trade DC from core as well as an alternate that I think is the actual intended formula (as it stands, it's harder to make a route that's shorter than your kingdom's size than one that's longer (size minus TRL, minimum 0), whereas I believe it should be TRL minus size, minimum 0, which makes routes shorter than your kingdom size all the same DC, but longer ones are harder).

Maybe just add data validation have the options for the available as well as "No Option Selected" for +0 modifiers?

Pathfinder Adventure Path, Lost Omens, Rulebook, Starfinder Roleplaying Game Subscriber

Update! (And if I left any data in it, please let me know)

Quite a chunky one, this time (not as big as the 5.0, though). Trade Routes! Building Details! Rulers! Terrain Improvement Details!

Enjoy!

Would love to see Ultimate Rulership/Battle added.

Again, willing to donate towards this effort via paypal.

I already own Ultimate Rulership, and I will be providing a version of the sheet (UR is on the cards once I've finished UCam, which is getting closer!) using the UR rules. I don't have Ultimate Battle, yet, but I will once my calendar and budget permit.

Which leads me to two points:

First, thank you for the offer. Knowing that people are willing to put money towards helping me do this is incredibly heartwarming.

Secondly, I must politely decline the offer. Partly (mostly) because I feel it would be like accepting money for something I'm doing for myself which I'm just sharing with rest of you, and I assure you I can afford it myself, but also because accepting money or monetary assistance touches up against the Community Use Policy, and while I doubt that would be an issue as long as all the cash was for was to cover the cost of UB, I'd rather not raise the issue at all.

Which is a very long-winded way of saying "thanks, but no thanks".

A great man once said, "If you are good at something, never do it for free."

Of course... he was talking about setting the world on fire so I am not sure this really counts.

I noticed two things.

1) Cisterns have the option to be in the same lot as another building, but that's not listed in the city pages.

2) Whenever I open the file for the 2nd time, all of the drop down menus come up Err:520. I use Open Office 4.0.1 on Windows 7 Professional. The drop down menus appear fine the first time I open the file, but so does the dialog about links needed to be updated. One the 2nd and later, the link dialog does not appear and the drop down menus have problems. Neither scenario allows for the Links option under the Edit menu (assuming because some of the sheet is protected.

Both appear in the current version and the version just before it.

It is still the best tool for the job. Thank you.

Latest version looks awesome. A couple of things/suggestions:

- My PCs just added a menagerie. This adds a bonus to loyalty based upon the highest CR of the monster. It would be nice to add a spot for the loyalty bonus. Or bonuses if they have more than one in a city.

- Following up on the first point, having a miscellaneous bonus section on the city pages. While there is the one on the Overall page, having one city page, allow a note in the comments to help keep track of where the bonus comes from.

- A comments section on the Overall page might be useful as well.

My thanks for all of the effort you put into this. It is really wonderful.

Tzizimine, I'm aware of issues with it in Open Office (one of my players uses it, too), but I'm not using it myself. I suspect it's an issue with the Rulers sheet, though, since I've encountered the odd problem with that, myself. I shall dig into the guts of it and see if I can resolve it. And I'll take a look at cisterns in detail to see if I can figure out a good way of handling them properly.

Matt, thanks for the heads-up on the menagerie. Might take a bit of an odd formula to bring it up to snuff, but it's on my radar. I'll definitely look at comments, as you suggest, as well as misc bonuses for individual cities (I really hate messing with the city sheets, though, since changes to them affect so many other things, but I agree that it would be useful).

Thanks, all!

Not likely to be any changes until at least Tuesday, due to other commitments, but I'll see what I can do then, and I'm hoping to get a Diplomacy update done, soon, too, which will reflect the actual Economy bonuses the various levels of diplomatic relationship provide.

Hey, guys. I wanted to post for anyone looking for a kingdom tracking spreadsheet that makes use of all the changes made in Ultimate Campaign. I've got a start on updating the sheet and you can download it here. I used Berhagen's wonderful sheet made for Kingmaker (later updated by Zoetrope) as a base for my sheet. I've asked Berhagen if I could update his sheet and this is posted with his permission.

My group is about to start book two of Kingmaker so, in my rush, I've had to ignore anything related to mass combat for now (as such, Defense bonuses may not be 100% accurate everwhere, although Settlements should be okay), settlements do not currently list slots for magic items, I've stripped out some of the special features (like Zoetrope's Event/Weather generators), and many of the "Optional" rules from Ultimate Campaign have yet to be implemented. Now that I have the minimum spreadsheet I'm needing for my personal campaign, I'll start working on finishing what I've started and I'll be sure to post updated versions in this thread.

For anyone interested in a (nearly) complete list of changes I've made, here is a list for you. Anything labeled as "personal preference" is merely a cosmetic change that I've made to suit my own tastes that you may or may not notice or appreciate.

** spoiler omitted **...

Thanks for all your hard work. I am looking forward to using it.

Thanks for the response. FYI, I have seen this error appear in other Excel files in OpenOffice. After a little digging, it's from the data range for the drop down no longer being valid when OpenOffice saves the file. I will try a convert to native ods and see what that does.

Pathfinder Adventure Path, Lost Omens, Rulebook, Starfinder Roleplaying Game Subscriber

Quite possible!

If you're technically inclined, the Rulers sheet has a defined range called "Characters" from B2:B53, which is referenced for the drop downs on the Overall sheet, using data validation (in Excel) of the list =Characters. This can probably be fixed by telling the Ruler Name cells on the Overall tab to use the drop down range $B$2:$B$53 on the Rulers sheet, instead of =Characters.

Ok, update on the Open Office situation. Since the file format is .xlsx, you need the Microsoft File Coverter from

http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=3

before opening in OpenOffice. Since I did that, it works fine.

Pathfinder Adventure Path, Lost Omens, Rulebook, Starfinder Roleplaying Game Subscriber

That's really rather excellent news. I'll still take a gander at the nuts and bolts of the sheet and try to eliminate the problem, but I suspect that the file converter is a more useful tool overall.

Still, I'd rather the sheet was cleaner for as many people as possible (and for anyone that uses a completely different spreadsheet program, let me know - I'll try to cover as many bases as I can).

On a vaguely related note, has anyone encountered any problems with the more recent sheets, like Diplomacy (which is currently incomplete), or Trade Routes? I'm aware that I believe things are getting closer to being "complete".

My to-do list currently looks like this:

1) Finish diplomacy sheet. Target Kingdom Economy bonus, modify Economy for kingdom. (Care: target kingdom's economy modified, too. Self referencing.)
2) Menagerie: loyalty bonus 1/4 of CR of most powerful creature. Drop down? Input CR?
3) Cistern? Share lot. Check current lot value.
4) Optional Rules.
4a) Deities and Holy Sites. Temple alignment. Drop downs. Where to squeeze into City sheet? Also, deity name? Nice to have.
4b) Expanding Settlement Modifiers. IF (kingdom overall/10 plus align)< settlement, then use settlement, else use kingdom overall/10 plus align)
4c) Forms of government (drop down on Overall, default to Autocracy or none. New cells on Overall sheet for ELS totals.)
4d) Settlement Sizes. Adjust current table to reflect lots/districts, not GMG population values. Also, tidy up: IF (name= blank, then settlement stats = "", else calculate)
4e) Exploration and Vassalage edicts. Pure BP cost and map admin? Low priority, if at all. No calculations that affect cities/kingdom to be automated.
5) Ad hoc settlement stat modifiers.
6) Comments/Notes. Overall. Cities?

That's not a big list, and some of them are really easy. Others, not so much. If there's anything I've missed, please let me know (and those aren't in any particular order, they're just how I've got them down right now). I'm working on the easy ones, first, with the hope of blitzing the complex ones when I have the chance to solidly sit down and crunch numbers.

Definitely getting closer.

Can you take a look at Shrines? Should that not be causing the unrest increment to lower?

Also, it would be nice if there was an open entry box for consumption. I build armies according to Ultimate Combat, not the Ucam system so it would be nice to be able to input that consumption there.

Pathfinder Adventure Path, Lost Omens, Rulebook, Starfinder Roleplaying Game Subscriber

I believe that the unrest decrease from houses and shrines and any other building that reduces unrest are applied once, not each turn, and as such you should manually decrease unrest when you build the building, and then forget about it. The unrest increment is only for modifications that happen every turn.

And yes, of course I can add a user consumption field for armies!

Thanks!

Quick question, what is defense used for? Some buildings add it but I can't see where it's used after that.

Additionally, in order to take Events into account for city adjustments, it would be necessary to add custom boxes for settlement statistics such as Crime, Society etc.

Pathfinder Adventure Path, Lost Omens, Rulebook, Starfinder Roleplaying Game Subscriber

Update! Same link as previously (which is making it delightfully easy to manage).

Cistern lot size has been removed, as it can share a lot with other buildings. Note that this means the Cistern no longer has any effect on the settlement population.

The Menagerie now contains creatures. No longer will your city zoos be empty, they now hold creatures which will make your citizens more loyal, just by their simple presence. Input the highest CR the Menagerie holds, and the city's loyalty bonus will adjust. Please note, if your city has more than one Menagerie, each one will provide the same loyalty bonus.

25 Thorps. All of the city sheets have been updated so that if there are no buildings at all, the settlement statistics will default to zero. At the moment they're still all Thorps, though.

This sheet is awesome, thanks for the work you have put into it!

Hi. Is there a sheet that works with Google Docs?

Pathfinder Adventure Path, Lost Omens, Rulebook, Starfinder Roleplaying Game Subscriber

Brad Turner got his version working in Google Docs, but I haven't. If I have time, I'll try and figure it out, but to be honest my priority is completing the UCam version in Excel, and I've never used Google Docs, so I know nothing about the differences between it and Excel.

If there's anyone out there who knows how to do the conversion, I'm more than happy to add it to the Community Use Registry under my own entry - the sole restriction is that a converted sheet absolutely must preserve the proportions (size doesn't matter) of all images in the City Map and Building Images sheets - everything else is fair game.

Also, it's possible that the Microsoft File Converter that tzizimine linked upthread will do the job.

Chemlak,

I have worked with Google Docs plenty. If you want to send an unprotected copy of the spreadsheet, so I can see the math and formula references, I should be able to assist with that. The biggest difference between excel and google and open office is that .xlsx format is propitary of Microsoft and thus google / OpenOffice have to reverse engineer it's methods of function calling and data validation in order for that part of the spreadsheet to work.

Pathfinder Adventure Path, Lost Omens, Rulebook, Starfinder Roleplaying Game Subscriber

PM me an email address. You'll have a full open, unprotected version in a few hours (after my little boy has gone to bed and I can switch my computer on).

Also worth noting that while the various sheets have protection to secure the formulae from accidental change or deletion, none of them are password protected, so it should just be a case of telling the spreadsheet software to unprotect them.

Yet another reason why I love this community on projects like this: we all work together to make awesome.

Pathfinder Adventure Path, Maps Subscriber

I liked the latest version; the comments on the front page are helping me keep track of the where my miscellaneous bonuses are coming from.

I was digging through the rules and I noticed that Watchtowers in lair hexes get +1 defense. So you might want to add Watchtower w/lair.

Regarding the Menagerie - I like it. Instead of CR though, why not just put in a flat loyalty bonus and not multiply? That way if I have 3 Menageries, one with a CR 3 monster, One with a 5, and one with a 9, I just plug in Loyalty of 3 here. I can not what is what in the comments section.

Scarab Sages

I just picked up Ultimate Campaign because my group is interested in starting their own kingdom. This spreadsheet will be invaluable!

One million thank you's to everyone who has contributed to this spreadsheet - the authors, maintainers, and everyone who has reviewed and commented. I appreciate your hard work.

I have just start a Kingmaker type Campaign and was looking for a sheet to organize things and found this, Chemlak I just want to say Awesome work to you and your predecessors on making this.

I'd just like to express my apologies for not updating the sheet for the last few weeks - life at home has been a little hectic, and looks to be even more so in the run up to Christmas. I'm going to try and get a few things done this weekend, if I can.

Jake Cook wrote:

Quick question, what is defense used for? Some buildings add it but I can't see where it's used after that.

This question made me look a bit more deeply into the mass combat rules than I ever had before.

The biggest surprise to me is that Defense is a settlement statistic, not an overall kingdom one, so the existence of Defense on the overall tab is incorrect.

Basically, if an army is able to fortify itself in a defensible structure (settlement with an increased Defense, or a watchtower hex improvement, for example) then the army gets the defense bonus of that structure added to its DV. That appears to be all it does.

If anyone can find something which contradicts this, please let me know and provide the reference - otherwise I'm going to be adding the Defense statistic to the cities and removing it from Overall.

Pathfinder Adventure Path, Lost Omens, Rulebook, Starfinder Roleplaying Game Subscriber

So, having (finally) answered that question, currently I'm going to be making that Defense change and changing the Menagerie to the suggestion Matt made. I'm also going to see if I can squeeze in the room for user-input modifiers to settlement statistics, and if I can deconstruct an earlier person's work I'll be making the sheet Google Docs/Open Office compatible - it seems that those two spreadsheet programs don't like the Excel proprietary array references on some sheets. Easy enough fix, it just makes some formulae slightly untidy, and I'm going to try to find them all in one fell swoop. You've all got tzizimine to thank for the help with that.

Matt J Harris: I'm currently undecided on Watchtower w/Lair. Since each Watchtower only ever provides its Defense bonus to armies inside the watchtower, rather than affecting a kingdom-wide statistic, and since the Watchtower terrain improvement is therefore identical regardless of the existence of a lair (unless you park an army in it), it might not be worth the (very minor) bother. On the other hand, it is only a very minor bother, and could serve to remind players if they do have an army in one. Any thoughts are welcome.

If I may say, in my most humble opinion.....

WWWOOOOOWWWWW!!!!!

Dude. this sheet rocks, and I can't wait to use it.

Makes me want to make something for everyone, so I can pay it forward for all of the great resources and advice I have found on this site.

Pathfinder Adventure Path, Lost Omens, Rulebook, Starfinder Roleplaying Game Subscriber

Thank you for your kind words (that's to everyone who has ever said thank you regarding this project).

As for "paying it forward", since my time has been devoted to this particular spreadsheet, it means I've not really made any headway into another one I've been fiddling around with: Downtime Tracking.

So far I've basically settled on the idea that each character should have a workbook of their own, there would need to be a sheet with all of the room and team stats (or possibly a sheet for each), hidden, and then separate sheets for each building or organisation, where you select teams or rooms from dropdowns, and it calculates the bonuses for you.

I'd really like a well-done sheet like that.

Pathfinder Adventure, Starfinder Adventure Path Subscriber

Well done!

I know this is a busy time of year and I thank you for everything you have done, but I was wondering if there is an update to the sheet.

Pathfinder Adventure Path, Lost Omens, Rulebook, Starfinder Roleplaying Game Subscriber

Unfortunately not.

A poorly three-year-old, a poorly wife, and planning the Christmas break have taken their toll, so I've been enjoying some relaxation every chance I can get. Which has meant that the time I would normally tinker with the sheet has been spent actively not doing anything remotely like work.

So, I must again apologise for not doing any updates lately. They are coming, I'm just not sure when.

Hope your family get well soon dude.
Not for gaming reasons - just because.

Pathfinder Adventure Path, Lost Omens, Rulebook, Starfinder Roleplaying Game Subscriber

Family are now all fine - it was just a lingering bug that I escaped. I'm not going to make any promises I can't guarantee delivering on, but the sheet is high in my current list of priorities... after actually roleplaying, of course.

Great sheet! Since I can't afford something ridiculously expensive like Hero Lab, this sheet is a lifesaver.

So far, I've only found one bug. Under armies, both Improved Weapons selections increase DV instead of OM.

Oh, found another. Siege Engines aren't showing up because the calculation calls for "Siege Weapons" instead. Just a typo. Then for the Consumption of Siege Weapons, it needs to be fixed to not be scaled by army size as per the rules.

Pathfinder Adventure Path, Lost Omens, Rulebook, Starfinder Roleplaying Game Subscriber

Thanks, Lindsey! I do own Hero Lab, and use it, but this sheet has been so useful to so many people that it's worth keeping it updated. Not to mention the fact that it allowed me to spot a number of bugs in LWD's treatment of kingdoms in HL.

Thanks for the bug spotting! I thought I'd fixed the various problems with army improvements since the last time I screwed them completely up (ahem), but clearly some slipped through the cracks. Siege Engines are a bit odd, because they don't follow the normal rules - I'll take another look at them when I get the chance.

Well, I tinkered with the sheet a little bit. If you add a place to mark the number of siege engines with a unit, you can have the consumption call on that number and multiply it by 3, then ignore the size modifier in the equation. That fixed it for me.

I also added a spot for Spellcasting, by having a field for spellcasting level that is called on to decide the OM and DV for it as well as a field to input whether you can do ranged with your spells.

Pathfinder Adventure Path, Lost Omens, Rulebook, Starfinder Roleplaying Game Subscriber

Thread slipped to page 5! Can't have that.

I'm on an extended vacation for the Christmas break, and was smart enough to bring my laptop with me, so I'm spending some time working on fixes and updates (family duty means I can't spend all day at it, though). Expect good things, soon.

Hahaha - I started to read your post & thought "cool, he's taking a break
to spend time with his family, but I wish he'd stop apologising that he
won't be..." but I kept reading & that thought soon became... "Oh, he's
not apologising he's actually going to be doing EVEN MORE for the rest of
us putzes..."
:)

Hah. Chemlak, I think I speak for everyone partaking of these 5 pages...
Have a magnificently restful holiday...& it's be cool if you do more on
the amazing sheet you've built - but don't stress it. As we'll love you
(in a manful, healthy way) :) either way dude!

Well, except for those females amoungst us - who won't love you in a
'manful' way - rather, more a platonic way, thankful for your programming
genius...
:)

Merry tinselmouse one & all...

Pathfinder Adventure Path, Lost Omens, Rulebook, Starfinder Roleplaying Game Subscriber

Update!

Diplomacy is now more detailed, trade routes have been fixed, expanded settlement statistics have been introduced, forms of government... yeah, I think that's everything for this one.

Here it is.

For the record, I still have a copy of the last version stored - I'll share it by PM to anyone interested. Since we're getting into the realm of the optional rules, I'll try to be careful about maintaining backups of each version.

Not quite as big an update as I was hoping for, but I wanted to get it out there for everyone. Plenty more to come!
