Why is this guy worthy of your worship and praise? Because he'll give you cool spells?

I dunno, I find it easier to understand why someone would worship any one of several RPG gods than why people worship most real gods, but to each their own.

And not because they grant spells.

cool post, although it is actually imposible proving me wrong in that I don't like some classes. :-)

I did say "to myself."

Liberty's Edge

Most characters (even the religious ones like clerics) actually give credit to just about all the deities when credit is due. Just because you advocate pushing the party line of one god or another doesn't mean you can't appreciate a bit of Desnan luck, Shelynite charm, Abadarian law or Pharasmin death rites. It's just that you support one aspect or another more strongly. Luckily, your big boss backs you up with fancy stuff (spells!)

Think about it like supporting a political party in a proportional representation system. You'd really like your party (God) to get as many votes (worshippers) as possible and have as much influence on the place as possible, because you certainly believe your way of thinking is right. You might even really dislike the policies of some other deities too, like a neo-conservative party vs. a socialist party, and strongly advocate against them; think Asmodeus vs. Iomedae. But it's highly unlikely you care as much about certain aspects of society as other parties might do; leave the environmental activist party (Gozreh) to deal with the natural world stuff. And the reality is that you'll have to work with them to get legislation through anyway... so you might as well stay on their good sides.

Liberty's Edge

Fighters and Rogues. The first because I find them boring. The other a little undepowered. Funny thing is I find myself wanting to play a Bard all the time.

I'm an atheist, but I'd definitely convert to Christianity, or any of the non-evil religions, in a NY minute if I got cool spells.

it would be rad to talk about pathfinder in this pathfinder thread rather than talk about religion

so uh Samurai was low on my list but now that I am playing one I have reversed that decision

I flavored the class in the way I wanted for a western theme and now am just enjoying the whole Sword Saint thing

Removed a few posts and responses. Keep discussion of real-world religions in the appropriate threads, please.

Good point. I answered several hundred posts ago, but i'm not a big fan of fighters or Pally's. just a bit droll for my tastes. I'm a huge fan of arcane magic, and to a lesser extent all other magic. I'd play a ranger over a fighter any day.

RPG Superstar Season 9 Top 16

Cavaliers and Inquisitors.

1) Neither of them have any mechanics interesting enough to warrant a whole class.

2) Their flavor feels ill-inspired to me.

3) If I wanted to play a banner-wielding horse-rider or a holy assassin, I'd rather play a Fighter, Paladin, or a Cleric.

4) Both classes feel like a feeble attempt to shoehorn teamwork feats.

I also feel the cavalier really never should have been a class.

Other than these two classes, I'm open to trying any class. I have a knack for creating interesting twists on classes to make them appealing, but I can't work my magic with these two classes.

what

do you mean you find their mechanics droll

Shadow Lodge

Considering that it was specifically game religion and directly related to people not liking or wanting to play certain classes do to it, Im not really sure how it was off topic or deleted, but whatever. It is what it is. :)

I kind of miss the Favored Soul. I sort of wish that Paizo had something like that, sort of a blend of Cleric/Paladin/Oracle. Im not really a fan of the Oracle beyond Spot Divine caster myself. I tried it a few times and it just didnt feel like it jived for me.

I think the point of the people responding to you is that you can only prove to yourself whether you like or dislike a class.

You cannot disprove someone's tastes by that means. Or any other means except perhaps convincing them (then their tastes change).

That said, your reason for wanting to try all the classes people are saying they are least likely to want to play is also a taste, so, sure, knock yourself out and have fun. (I mean that sincerely, this is not rhetorical or sarcastic).

The Seekers from Dragon Age 2 make me kind of want to play an Inquisitor type character. But even then, a rogue/cleric seems like a much more interesting choice than the inquisitor class.

Dancin with myself ;-)

What classes do you have trouble seeing yourself playing...

Anything with a pet. I usually have enough trouble keeping track of my own character and everything it can do without having to remember where the pet is and what it can do.

About the only way I'd play a pet class is if it was a solo campaign or if it was a campaign that supported mounted combat well (never been in one that did).

Also I don't like how druids were designed. Probably won't ever play one. I'll play a 3rd party Shaman class if I want a nature-oriented, divine spell caster.

I changed my mind on the Magus. The Arcane Pool abilities really alter the prep-caster mechanic and make it livable.

In our own world we have a hundred different types of Christians who can't even agree on how to worship god, and have different views on what god is like, so how is that really any different? A "perfect god" is subjective to the worshiper. t=This goes for any religion.

edit:my hindu buddy says hi.

Liberty's Edge

I'll never play a gnome, include a friendly gnome NPC in any game I run, or present gnomes as anything more than despicable fae xenos that must be purged. Preferably by badass half-orc inquisitors with the Gnome Genocide inquisition.
God I hate gnomes.
I'm conflicted on the flavor of catfolk ever since their looks were changed in the ARG from Carolina Eade's inspired, mysteriously alluring catgirls to generic beastmen. I'll obviously still imagine them the old way, but...Just sayin'.

I don't like the flavor or ki abilities or ninjas because I feel like it steps on the monk's toes. I houserule rogues to be more effective when I run games instead. I don't like samurai very much, but I guess I'll eventually play one for completion's sake. I despise summoners. Eternity in an isocube for all of them.

I'll play pretty much anything else.

Scratch that. Wayangs creep me out on a cosmic level.
