Help me name this item

Homebrew and House Rules

I'm putting together a custom magical item for one of my players to find as loot. I borrowed pieces of the item from a couple of third party sources, but I think the final item is unique.

I'm envisioning an item about the size and heft of a hacky sack. The item can hold one touch spell for up to an hour/CL. The caster is able to cast other spells during that time without losing the charge on the item. The item can be thrown as a ranged touch attack to deliver the spell (range increment 20"). If the recipient anticipates that the spell being delivered is beneficial they may chose to forgo any dexterity bonus to touch AC.

Any thoughts on this item? Any ideas on what one might call such a thing?

Thanks!

Yes, call it the ring of spell storing.

And what's this about throwing an item but getting to make a ranged touch attack roll?

It's a bit different than the ring in that it simply stores the charge of a touch delivered spell and allows you to deliver it it from a distance. The item itself does no damage and does not need to penetrate the targets armour to discharge the spell. as a result a ranged attack against the targets touch AC seemed appropriate.

An additional difference it the time limit before the charge is lost.

Arcane Canister perhaps?

Cute :-)

I'm leaning towards "divine spell capacitor" and making it specific to divine spells.

"Spell shot"

Can it be launched from a sling?

Sack of Spell Storing? :P

Liberty's Edge

"Catch this"

Lol. I'm starting to think that the hacky sack analogy was bad :-) I was just trying to imagine something that would fit easily in your hand that you could throw at someone and expect not to hurt them.

A friend did mention an obvious use for the item that I hadn't considered. There was nothing to keep someone other than the caster from taking the item and using it. Sort of an intersting twist.

It works just like a Splash Weapon.

As far as what to call it...

Scrotum of Spell Storing

has a nice alliteration coupled with some basic baggy double entendre.

Ok, so it's specific to divine spells, you throw it, and it unleashes a devastating attack? How about...wait for it...

The Holy Handgrenade!

Sorry, couldn't resist.

Seriously though, you describe it as something "you could easily throw at someone and expect not to hurt them." You use the hackysack analogy, but what about something else, somthing that doesn't look like a projectile? You also suggest throwing it but that it hits as a ranged touch attack, not a normal thrown weapon; this to me suggests a ray or spell effect, not necessarily an attack.

Personally I'm thinking of a device which appears innocuous but when utilized speeds to the target in a sheath of divine energy. My first thought was an origami figure which, like a familiar, animates and delivers a touch attack and then disintegrates to ash. Another thought I had though is a piece of religious paraphenelia specific to the faith but then not the deity's favored weapon. Such objects could be a string of prayer beads, a sash or perhaps a seven demon bag.

In many anime cartoons I've seen "wise man" types walking about with a staff adorned with rings; perhaps one of the rings flies off and delivers the attack. Also for the Pharasmin you might have a simple skull into which the spell is stored, causing the eye sockets to glow; it then flies at the target to deliver the spell in some fashion.

I guess I'm needing more specifics.
